What can I say, I really this place. I've been coming to Burger Express since the original one used to be open. This one is much nicer and modern and thankfully the food hasn't changed. The chicken is real good, the burgers are always consistent, the corn nuggets are a great side and the cheese fries are good too just don't leave them in the box if you get takeout (the steam ruins them). Porkroll and cheese on a roll is pretty good too, even though they call it Taylor ham here. I am sure I'll be back soon. read more

Living close by, I appreciate the fact that I can actually consume a good burger and not have to settle for a burger from Wendy's (or worse McDonald's, the horror!). Their burger is well cooked and it has wonderful flavor, deserving three stars. As I have said before, the pickles in the burger is what elevates it from three to four stars. I know I'm simple, but those pickles acentuates and makes the burgers so excellent. The service is what you would expect from a made fresh business, and sometimes slower. I appreciate the fact that the burger I just bought was not sitting under an infrared counter for hours. Their fries, wings and onion rings are also worth mentioning. The portions and the prices are both reasonable, making it a good standby for when you are just craving a burger and you are not willing to settle. read more

I love burger express. I am bias thou, I helped designed the building. I have eaten here many times both before they moved locations and their current location. Burger express is an institution in Carteret. Everyone goes here after any event that happens in town. There is plenty of choices to eat. Just went to pick up food here last right around 11:00 PM. I've had food here more than a couple of time and every time I'm always left underwhelmed. Their BLT, breakfast and cold cut sandwiches are probably the best items on the menu. Their burgers are okay but a little dry for my liking. Tried their spicy chicken sandwich yesterday and it was spicy in a good way, just the right amount of kick. Had the pulled pork which was wayy to sweet and the 3 piece cod tasted like a frozen item from the supermarket. Also I maybe the only person who doesn't like their fries; they also taste like a frozen item from the supermarket. I'll probably just stick to the sandwiches. read more

Drove up saw they had a turkey burger for $6.99 but didn't come with any topping but lettuce and cranberry mayo so I asked if they could fix it like a regular hamburger ( the toppings). They charged me more and that was a sandwich alone. No fries no drink. Got home there was no cheese. The turkey burger it self seemed like it was the frozen kind not ground turkey formed into a patty. They're expensive for no reason. I won't be back. 2 stars because I ate it and didn't get sick. This is a good place to go for a good burger and awesome onion rings. The fries are ok, not great, not horrible, very middle of the road. It now has a convient drive thru, but you have to wait for your food a bit longer than say a McDonalds. I would hope that it's because it's somewhat made to order. The only thing that I object to is that they won't let you substitue the fries for the rings. Also, I recommend the butter and mayo sandwich (Fried Chicken Breast sandwich). I first have to say...I only eat turkey burgers so this review is solely based on that......ok it was late and this place was open, we'll drive thru, no biggie. My friend wanted a chocolate shake, I figured they would have it...NOT. They didn't have any shakes. Oh well. I got the turkey burger...all of the fix'ins look great, bun was nicely toasted and it was a good size. I had to cut mine in half and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into it. But when I saw the meat, I said...uhh this is poultry? I've been eating turkey burgers for over 20 yrs, I've never seen this color or texture. It was gray and like a harden pate. I took a tiny piece amd ate it, yup like flavoless clay. I was so nervous I added more condiments for flavor. I didn't eat the 2nd half. Not a great experience. I didn't get sick or anything. When folks talk about turkey burgers and how much they dislike them, this is what they are talking about. Also the staff didn't know what they fry their french fries in..they knew it wasn't vegetable oil. SCARY. My friend had a chicken something. .. sandwich/panini, he enjoyed it. The only thing good about this place is the quick service and the somewhat decent burger they serve up. The price is really over the top compared to what you get. $10+ for a meal on average for fast food is really unheard of. Their drinks have more ice than any place I've been to in my life. Awesome little place! Really cool hybrid between a "semi" fast food joint (high quality for fast food) downstairs and a cozy, really nice sports bar right above. They also have a drive through which I have never used. Bartenders are always super friendly and attentive, and they have a handful of great craft beers on tap including one of my favorites--Riverhorse Hopalotamus. They have a good seasonal rotation as well. Great place to go with good friends or solo for a post work brew. I go back any time I can! read more
