This already had me thinking that I made the right choice by stopping by. I went in and ordered a special which was a 6 oz bacon cheese burger with fries and a drink for around 8 bucks. The wait time was minimal. After I got my burger, I went to the condiment bar and loaded up with the regular fixings and nacho cheese!! Anyway, I went and sat back down. Homemade buns are awesome! My hubbys mushroom swiss burger was delish. I had the bulgogi burger and it was a nice change to boring burgers. Just be sure not to ruin it by adding too many fixins. Lettuce and onions are enough with a little mayo. Everything is made to order (but its not as slow as you think.) Their kitchen is pretty open so you can see them grilling the burgers and frying up the fries. Definitely will come back. Theres a CFS with my name on it. read more

When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the old fashioned back lit yellow sign. I don't know why, but it made me feel like I was in Goonies, or Stranger Things. That's a nostalgic time period for me, and thus a pleasant feeling. I ordered the 6ounce burger, no cheese combo. I absolutely LOVED the buns. Perfectly buttered and grilled. The burger itself was good, but I prefer mine less flat and more juicy. Still, a great burger if you are looking for a classic burger. The customer service was absolutely stellar. Very nice people. My daughter had the mini corn nuggets and they were very hot. One of the attendants saw from far away that we were trying to cool it down and brought a little cardboard square to cool them down. It was very kind of him. They have a big vat of free nacho cheese for those of you that like that sort of thing... (not me)... and in addition to your traditional condiments, they have Siracha mayo. The toppings bar, while very simple, is fresh and well stocked with crisp lettuce, sliced tomatoes, onions and pickles. My family enjoyed our visit. The burgers at the 7040 N Eldridge Pkwy location have never disappointed me and service is fast and efficient. Ordering options are limited essentially to plain with cheese and/or bacon, but these good, basic burgers with fresh-baked buns really don't need anything else aside from your favorite fixings. I like how they write your order number on the side of your cup - no extraneous buzzers or bits of paper - with a reasonable wait until they call it out. Don't be intimidated by the often large lunchtime crowd: table turnover is pretty quick so you'll have plenty of time to eat. The fixings bar deserves special mention: the fresh tomatoes, lettuce, onions and pico de gallo put many salad bars to shame. There are also pickled jalapenos, pickles and some sort of cheese sauce. Because the dining experience can be highly variable between locations, I recommend Yelping first whichever one you intend to visit! read more

Are you tired of eating a regular hamburger, cheeseburger, or grilled chicken burger?? With so many burger joints around Houston, I am sure someone out there wants an "exotic" burger!! Well, Burger Tex is the place to be...The person who thought to make a bulgogi burger at this place is a freakin genius! For all of you haven't had Korean food before, bulgogi is basically sweet, marinated thin slices of beef that is grilled. First time I had this was actually in Austin, and I actually had no idea that it was a chain store and locations exist in Houston. Since eating bulgogi burgers, I never crave for a regular burger...I'm all about the bulgogi! This specific store is Korean owned (go figure), and it is kind of hidden at the corner of 529 and Eldridge, so you will have to look for it. Just like any other Korean restaurant, you will come out smelling like oil and grease if you stay in there too long, so most of the time, I order out. If you aren't daring just enough yet, they also have regular burgers...I haven't tried any of them, but they look pretty good. They have unlimited free vegetables (i.e. tomatoes, lettuce, onions, etc) for you to grab in a mini salad bar area. They also have free melted cheese just like at Fuddrucker's. Everyone should go here to at least try the bulgogi burger just once, you will be hooked after! read more

I can't believe I almost forgot to review this place. I typically complain about not having enough variety in restaurant choices near my workplace, but coming to Burger Tex 7 definitely shut me up. First, the Bulgogi Burger. Holy hell. So delicious. It's the same price as any other regular burger with a combo. I never had anything like it before. The meat was juicy, hot, and flavorful, and the buns are homemade and fresh! There is the condiments bar, just like Fudd's; the lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, and pickles are very fresh and there is an abundant amount so you'll never have to leave unhappy. I recommend getting your onions grilled. It takes a bit longer to get your food, but it's so worth it. Second, the fries. Oh my god, I was so giddy inside when I found out they have a whole barrel of melted cheese. My fries ended up soaked with it and I was the happiest little Asian there =) The fries are actually already seasoned with some cajun salt or whatever, and the cheese helped out a lot by killing the saltiness (for the most part). So goooood; totally drooling now. -1 star because this place definitely needs to invest in some vents. I smelled like fried food the rest of the day :( read more

Someone just made my life significantly better when they decided to put delicious bulgolgi (Korean barbeque) in a burger. I figure if I'm going to be clogging my arteries with a delicious greasy burger, I might as well do it right with a bulgolgi burger from Burger Tex! Bulgolgi has a sweet and savory flavor to it. It comes in thin pieces along with marinated onions. The only downside of this is it falls out of your burger easily. But if you're savoring every last morsel, you'll just pick it up off your plate anyway. The marinade is so good that I personally don't even need ketchup or mayo as it would only take away the bulgolgi's flavor. I also got a side of onion rings, which are homemade and the size of my FACE! They are fried extra crispy too. All in all, this place is like a mom-and-pop version of Fuddruckers, but owned and operated by Koreans. Haha okay, so it's not really that much like Fuddruckers then. But they do have a station for you to add all your items to your burger (lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, jalapenos, even pico de gallo!) and dress it up exactly how you like. YUM! read more

I don't know guys. I don't get the rave reviews. It's not a horrible burger, but it's not all that and a bag of chips either. The condiment bar was more than adequate, it was quite nice, but nothing to write home about. Oh, and those of you raving about the canned cheese sauce...uh... really??? I really don't get it. The burger was pretty basic. I can't think of anything particularly outstanding about it. One point for them, the bacon was CRISP, something that even the Shack doesn't seem to understand... wimp, limpy bacon is BAD. The fries were from a bag, which isn't necessarily bad either, but it certainly doesn't rate 4 stars. The onion rings... well... I gotta ding them on the O-rings... right size, but the breading is weird and it was somewhat overcooked. Also, it was cooked in the same oil that the fish is fried in...thus lending the rings a taste of fish. That's a major culinary faux pas. Fish flavored rings are just BAD. As a lunch joint, if I had to choose between fast food and Burger Tex, I'll take Burger Tex. But "Best Burger in Houston?" If you are a burger lover and looking for an excellent fresh made burger, this is the spot to go to on this side of town. Let me tell ya how to order. You MUST get the 8 oz pattie...doubled. Yes.. DOUBLE on one bun. With cheese and then prepare yourself to melt in your seat. This is a nasty eating burger and nasty...is good. I like a burger where the juices drip down your fingers an arms... This is that burger. It's very very very juicy and cooked and season to perfection. Whew....just the thought makes me want one. I'd been driving past Burger Tex 7 for a few months trying to resist my curiosity to stop. But, the fact this place had been around since 1978 got the best of me so finally I realized I just had to try it. I'm so glad that I did. What's even better is the big "Yelpers Love Us" sign on the front door -- I knew I made the right decision. The menu is not for the weak slim set. A range of burgers, a Korean BBQ burger (yes, that's right), fried chicken, chicken fried steak and other goodies are abundant. You can get a grilled chicken sandwich but why? I opted for the bacon cheese burger and fries. What I got was a delicious burger served on a home made toasted bun and crinkle fries. I love love love crinkle fries -- they are impossible to find! To dress your burger, head to the toppings/fixings bar and load up. You can even add melted cheese if you wish. Then sit, eat and enjoy. I can't wait to go back when I take a gym holiday. Not the best burger I've ever had, but very good and far superior in countless ways to a fast food joint (though you can drive thru). It is filled with men around lunchtime. Every man in a 10 mile radius must come here for their lunch break. Alone, in pairs, in groups. Obviously, its fast, cheap and tasty=) I tried the recommended bulgogi burger and it was sweet and delicious. However, don't expect it to be a burger exactly--more like a BBQ sandwich as it is a pile of stir-fry type steak in a sweet korean sauce. I wasn't even sure how to top it from their serve yourself fuddrucker style fixins bar. I chose a lot of jalapenos, tomatoes and lettuce. It was cravably delicious. The french fries were the crinkle cut frozen kind and the onion rings ($2 per order) weren't the best I've ever had--but maybe the thickest and biggest. They were breaded, not battered and needed a little something.. The buns are as good as everyone says, but the bottom bun can get soggy if you leave it alone for a couple minutes while dressing the other burgers at your table... I work off of 529 so this is the perfect place to get a quick burger that tastes so much better than those fast food burgers! First off, the buns are just marvelous! They are hand made and better than any other burger buns I've had!!!! You can order the burger individually or you can get a meal - which includes burgers, fries, and a drink. If you want cheese, you have to add a little extra charge to it. The meals are offered for different sized burgers, and a chicken burger. Once you pay, they will hand you a cup with your number and when your food is ready, they call your number. They have all the condiments, plus veggies for burgers (i.e. onions, jalepenos, etc). Also, there is the liquid cheese if you choose to put that on your burger and/or fries. Usually for lunch time, this place runs busier earlier (i.e. 11.30). I've come about then and had difficulties finding parking/empty table because it's just so packed. Come at 12.30 and it's no problem. You can't beat the price for the amount of food, a #2 - 6 oz. bacon cheese burger combo with fries and a drink goes for under $8. You can also build your own burger with assorted toppings ie: jalapenos, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pico de gallo, nacho cheese, mayo, mustard, ketchup, and several other ingredients free of charge. Just like I remembered in Austin. This is one of the better places for comfort food; with a huge menu, steaks and even bulgogi dinners, great value prices. I think the steak dinner was $12? The owners are part of the family that owns it in Austin and it's a mom, pop and son operation. The ladies up front are always nice and polite, though some may not speak English, and even when there is a huge lunch crowd, you never have to wait more than a few minutes. The condiment bar is one of the freshest I have ever seen, with pristine tomatoes, lettuce, onions, fresh pico( not soggy or old like many other places that don't replace it often enough). I doctor my fries up with some cheese sauce, pico and hot sauce and its like having nachos. The ladies keep the place spotless, even though it is an older building. I agree with Vicky that the smell of the grill will stay with you, but that is a bonus for me...it makes my friends wonder where I just ate...plus it drives my dog crazy. The key to the tasty burgers is the fresh ground beef and the bread that is actually baked fresh EVERY single day....yup, I actually asked. They no longer stay pillowy soft after one day plus there's no space to store them. Go early for the bulgogi bc they tend to ran out by 1 or 2 in the afternoon, since it is made fresh everyday also. I guess the theme here is everything is made fresh the same day, a very labor intensive process. Avoid the lunch rush from 12 to 2, and they close early at 8pm, sometimes earlier on weekends. This is one of those dives that makes you swear off fast food chains. I would actually drive the 30 miles to eat here, because the other locations just isn't the same. I've tried a couple and they have employees running the whole place, including the cooks, and no sight of any of the Korean family that owns them. I hope this family joint makes it because they do not have much business after 2 or 3 pm, since they are in an industrial area.
