Just like I remembered in Austin. This is one of the better places for comfort food; with a huge menu, steaks and even bulgogi dinners, great value prices. I think the steak dinner was $12? The owners are part of the family that owns it in Austin and it's a mom, pop and son operation. The ladies up front are always nice and polite, though some may not speak English, and even when there is a huge lunch crowd, you never have to wait more than a few minutes. The condiment bar is one of the freshest I have ever seen, with pristine tomatoes, lettuce, onions, fresh pico( not soggy or old like many other places that don't replace it often enough). I doctor my fries up with some cheese sauce, pico and hot sauce and its like having nachos. The ladies keep the place spotless, even though it is an older building. I agree with Vicky that the smell of the grill will stay with you, but that is a bonus for me...it makes my friends wonder where I just ate...plus it drives my dog crazy. The key to the tasty burgers is the fresh ground beef and the bread that is actually baked fresh EVERY single day....yup, I actually asked. They no longer stay pillowy soft after one day plus there's no space to store them. Go early for the bulgogi bc they tend to ran out by 1 or 2 in the afternoon, since it is made fresh everyday also. I guess the theme here is everything is made fresh the same day, a very labor intensive process. Avoid the lunch rush from 12 to 2, and they close early at 8pm, sometimes earlier on weekends. This is one of those dives that makes you swear off fast food chains. I would actually drive the 30 miles to eat here, because the other locations just isn't the same. I've tried a couple and they have employees running the whole place, including the cooks, and no sight of any of the Korean family that owns them. I hope this family joint makes it because they do not have much business after 2 or 3 pm, since they are in an industrial area. A new burger K*ng just opened up across the street, and even though its around the same price, BK sitll took some bussiness.....why would you not choose fresh made to order food instead of that? Support your local mom n pops... I hope its not all chain restaurants in 20 years. read more

A hole in the wall with amazing food. There is a salad bar near the front of the restaurant for when you're feeling healthy. The salad bar also has all the condiments you need. Order at the front, then seat yourself. Soon, somebody will come out with the order. Make sure you know your number so they can get the food out to you easily. I usually get the burger here. I think the burger is perfect! I've tried other items like their fried fish. It's also very good with the tarter sauce on the side. This place is not just always packed at lunch, it's always packed at lunch by "workin men". That means the food is good and at a great price! The burgers are the perfect size, juicy, and they are on yum yum buns! Of course, there is the veggie bar to add all your favorite toppings. The fries are basic crinkle fries (most likely out of a bag), but I don't care, they're a good compliment to the burgers. And add some nacho cheese on those suckers, and they're an even better compliment. The food comes out fast and delicious. You can't ask for much more on break from work. If you ever get a chance to try out Burger Tex you are in for a treat. They are situated off of North Eldridge in a very down scaled building. Indeed from the look of the exterior you would never think that it would be worth your time, however you would be mistaken. Although they are pretty cramped for space on the inside, & they don't have your "typical gaudy burger joint" decorations offending your senses hung throughout. The staff keeps the tables very clean. There are flat screen TVs for you to watch while you wait for your meal. On some days at lunch time it can get to be so packed that it is standing room only. However I view that as a sign of their success, not a deterrent. I usually order my favorite which is the #2 6oz Bacon Burger combo. It is reasonably priced at just $6.65, and you can get a side of fries that are out of this world sprinkled with an amazing spice, that I have no idea what it is, but can never get enough of. They have a side bar with all the fixings on it so you can build your burger up the way you want it. If you are not in the mood for fries you can substitute with an order of Onion Rings that are freshly made every day, & amazing! If burgers are not what you are in the mood for then I would say you should try their Chicken Fried Steak at only $7.69 you get a huge portion, with a side salad, fries, and toast. All in all you get more bang for your buck at Burger Tex. The staff is fast, and friendly and always greet you with a smile. If you are in a hurry you can call your order in ahead of time, & then swing by and pick it up. I don't want none unless you got buns, hun!....buns like the ones from Burger Tex, that is. Hamburger buns are often overlooked because they're usually not that great--they're typically either dry, hard, or stale. The buns at Burger Tex, however, are amazingly fluffy, light, and hearty at the same time. The best thing is that they're perfectly buttered and toasted to a crisp at Burger Tex. I am a huge fan of attention to detail and these buns definitely have plenty of TLC. I have only ever tried the bulgogi (Korean bbq) burger--why get anything else when I know I have an original and delicious fusion burger here in the heart of NW Houston? The reason this isn't a 5 star joint is because the condiment bar doesn't seem super sanitary. I love that it's an unlimited bar of toppings and the ever elusive melted cheese, but the lettuce is usually soaking wet and there were a few uninvited flying friends around the condiment area when I visited. Don't let this deter you from coming to Burger Tex, though. I am a self-proclaimed germaphobe and you won't be able to keep me away despite the pesky insects. Fresh burger buns, great flavored burgers and it's all made to order. They have good lunch specials and it gets crowded so the best time to go is around 11 am. You order at the counter and wait for your number to be called, there is a salad bar in the middle of the restaurant for your burger toppings, including hot cheese for your fries! I love Burger Tex! Their burgers are as good as Fuddruckers, or better. They taste homemade. The fries and buns are excellent too. The staff is very nice. When I go in I order to go for the whole family and they always package it all up nicely for me. It's not the most attractive restaurant, but I don't really care too much about that. I was looking for a new restaurant to try near the house, and came across Burger Tex. The reviewers seem to love it, so I had to try. Also per the reviews, I had already knew I would be getting the bulgogi burger. I'm SO glad I did - it was delicious!! I loved the little bit of sweet to it, and it was perfectly good with just the meat on the bun, it didn't need anything else. My bf said it was a little too sweet for him, but I told him he was wrong :-) He got the ribeye sandwich and that too was great. Juicy, not chewy at all, good stuff! He ate his with a little pico de gallo and lettuce. And of course I loved the cheese sauce - I put that and some pico de gallo on the fries, yum! I was telling him that everything I tasted was great, so no complaints there. But I do wish they had more sides to choose from, like fried mushrooms or something. All in all, I will definitely go there again, and I would definitely recommend to others. read more

One of the best burgers I have had in Houston, there are a couple other locations, but this one just seems to be better than the others for some reason. Don't get me wrong, Houston has some great burger joints, especially for all of the new gourmet burgers that have become oh so popular, but sometimes you just want a plain-jane bacon cheeseburger. Be forewarned, I think the reason I like these burgers so much is because the meat is a little salty (so if you don't have a high tolerance for salt, you may not like this place); I'm one of those people that needs a lot of seasoning in their food in order for me to not categorize it as bland (blame it on growing up on MSG laden foods I guess haha). They also have pretty yummy crinkle cut fries that are crispy and good on their own, but they could probably be serving limp lifeless fries and I would be just as happy since I douse them in the complimentary liquid cheese anyways. I was introduced to Burger Tex by some coworkers. I have to say, I've only ordered one item from here- the Bul Go Gi burger. This is the only location I know of that serves this item. I want to eat this every day as I am a big Bul Go Gi fan. If you are unsure of what I am talking about, Bul Go Gi is a type of Korean barbeque. Don't let that fool you- it is similar to something like a General Tso flavor, with a beef pepper steak sort of cut of beef. So awesome. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself, but make sure you don't try to go on a Sunday because they are CLOSED!!!! Boooo! If you go during lunch, beware! They sometimes run out of this edible treasure. read more
