I'm confused about the great reviews because my experience here was just not overly good. Bought one of the $13 burgers which I thought was overpriced for what you get. The burger was not overly large but that's OK if it was really good tasting but it was not. It lacked seasoning and it was just very average overpriced burger. I don't say this lightly but the onion rings look great but we're probably one of the worst onion rings I've had in recent memory. They were completely tasteless and almost tasted like it was dirty oil to boot. The french fries come with the burger were plentiful but soggy and also lacked flavor. I went here a year ago I didn't like it and I still don't like it. The only thing that I could say that was pretty good was the bun it wasn't overly airy or soggy. At this price or even any price I expect a better burger. There are way too many better places in the area I would not come here again. I will say the service was good they did try hard though they just need to get a new cook or recipe as far as I'm concerned and start all over with the whole process because it's just unacceptable. read more

Love this place. I have to admit I don't love traveling down to Cool Springs to eat but this is one of the places I make an exception for. I live 5 minutes for my the 12 south location but this is where I go when I want a burger. Good selection of beers and the food is excellent. They have overcooked our burger a time or 2 in the 25plus times I've come here, but they are always apologetic and they always make it right. It's so nice to find a unique, healthy burger joint with a great menu. Outside of fast food, Five Guys, and restaurants that just happen to have a couple burgers on their menu (not good if you're in the burger mood and don't know where to go) this is one of the few (if only) joints in the Cool Springs area. While the menu, food, and decor are fantastic, as well as the concept, there are two or three consistent opportunities I notice - burgers are difficult to eat because they slip, slide, and ooze, either because they are stacked too high, or are just too large to manage. Food is often underdone and occasionally overdone. The fries are limp and soggy. The biggest opportunity though is in service, because honestly the food leaves little to want - they always seem understaffed, in spite of the fact there are often people standing around. read more

To be clear, I ordered Burger Up through Delivery Dudes, I did not eat onsite. The delivery service was great, the food itself was not. This was without a doubt one of the worst meals I have had in a long time, even more so when it costs $60. We ordered the fried mushroom app, flavorless and soggy. We also had the Ramsey burger, however the burger wound up being delivered wrong, no pimento cheese, plus the burger was about as dry as a hockey puck. The truffle fries were overly oily and soggy. The hot chicken sandwich was actually pretty good, best thin we ordered by far, but with all the hot chicken in this area, it doesn't really hold up compared to them. Then I was hoping beyond hope that the Krispy Kream bread pudding would make up for all of it... alas, it did not. Mediocre at best. Really a bad experience, there are a lot of better options in the area, I do not recommend you waste your time or money with this establishment. read more

Burger Up is my go-to local burger restaurant here in town. All locations are independently owned, which is slightly odd to me. The Cool Springs location is the one I usually go to. The mac and cheese bites and truffle fries are a dream, topped with the honey mustard aioli. The black and bleu burger or the fried chicken sandwich are my top menu picks, but they are not available at all locations. Really, you can't go wrong with what you pick! I have yet to have a bad meal here. At the Cool Springs location, there is an enclosed patio that is great. At the 12South location, there are community style tables and even the booths/tables are extremely closed together and packed close---so get ready for your neighbors to hear your entire conversation. read more

Took my family to what used to be one of my favorite places for burgers. Walked in and waited up front to be greeted and seated. Very, few people in the restaurant. Three employees looked at my family and me from the back then turned to each other and continued talking and giggling. Never came forward to greet us. Acted as though we were not there. After waiting several more minutes then walking back to ask if we should seat ourselves, a young lady came out of the bathroom and said she would seat us. Tables were filthy and sticky. Floor was horribly dirty with napkins and what seemed to be toothpicks and pickles near my feet. Menus had splotches on them and I could not read the writing in some sections because the menus had apparently gotten wet. After waiting for 15 minutes with no waitress coming to our table, my family and I got up and left. Had a great meal at J Alexanders down the street with a waiter who checked on us throughout our meal. Really saddened me to see how bad things have become at Burger Up. read more

If I could give less than one star, I would. The food at Burger up is actually very good. We've been there many times, and have had consistently good food. Tonight, we called in an order to go. Very specific, since my husband is a purest, and likes burger and bun only. Long story short, we were given the wrong order. Got home and upon realizing the mistake, I called Burger Up, they apologized, and my husband went back to pick up the right food. When he got home the second time... wrong order! We called and asked to speak to the manager. Jason was not just rude, but blamed us for taking the wrong bag! When I asked him to credit my card back for the order, he sarcastically said that he'd give us a refund, then asked, "Are you going to throw the WHOLE order away since I'm giving you the whole refund?" It got worse. He's obviously not had any training in customer service! The thing is, sometimes just having good food isn't enough to keep customers coming back. I would have given it a 1 because of the service we got tonight, but we have been here so many times and had good experiences. The burger was OK. I get the same thing every time.... my order was wrong the first time, so it got sent back. My order was wrong a second time but instead, decided to go ahead and eat because my husband was literally almost done with his meal. To top it off, they tried to get it back to me so quickly (which I appreciated) but would have been fine had they come back with the correct order. The cheese was not melted, bacon was missing and sweet potato fries were soggy and mushy. Burger Up is our favorite restaurant. My wife and I eat there probably more than any other restaurant. We've always been to the 12 South location, but after seeing a movie at the Carmike Thoroughbred, we decided to try the Cool Springs Burger Up. To preface, I want to say the service, decor, and even the food, was all good. But...it wasn't the same as the 12 South Burger Up. The aioli had a bit of a corn syrup taste, and the Woodstock my wife and I shared had a tinge of a sloppy joe like taste. None of these made the food bad, but the same items at the 12 South location tasted more refined overall of a higher quality. That being said, the Cool Springs locations features some menu items not found in 12 South. We enjoyed the fried green beans, and if I weren't full from popcorn and soda from the movies, I would've loved to have tried a milkshake. TL;DR: Great vibe and decor, but the food just wasn't the same as the original location. read more

My friend and I met for lunch, mid week. It wasn't that busy. First time, really wanted to like it for a new lunch spot. We waited waaaay too long to get service, so when we asked if we could be serviced, we were told that our server "was busy doing something else" so someone would be with us soon. HUH? There was nothing special or exceptional about the food, it was ok, kinda tasteless but at their prices ($17.00 for a hamburger!) it should be. Appetizer was very small and had to ask for more Dip it was served with such a tiny amount for two. We took separate checks, I tipped accordingly to how POOR our service was, almost 15% which was generous for bad service. However, someone at Burger Up decided to ADD MORE to my tip and charged my Debit card more! I CLEARLY wrote the Total Amount I was paying on my receipt. My bank records show Burger Up charged my account more. Luckily I always take a copy of my bank slips with my totals and check my bank account charges. And I am now going to start taking a picture of my slips with my phone. However, my friend and I agreed when we left, we would not go back. Mistakes are made, however when I called to clear it up (Katie took my call) I was told with the same indifferent attitude, I would get a call back after they looked into it. Three days later, no call (ever), only a message posted to my Twitter and then a Rabid Twitter Freak Burger Up Fan started Twitter-harassing me for my opinion and review. Wow, I really really wanted to like this place. We use triple l beef in our home and it is excellent, my husband had the Woodstock burger and it was great, however that's where the good part ends. My daughter ordered a kids pbj, and I know you are thinking.....how can you mess up a pb&j? Well, grill it in beef grease, and that just about does it. The bread was toasted/grilled and had a distinct flavor of beef, as if they stuck it on the grill just after a burger, also they tell you the kids meals come with apples and fries, which is great if there are more than 2 paper thin slices of apple, served next to cold fries. . . Yes it is a kids meal, but that does not give the kitchen a pass to send out mediocre food. I ordered a local salad, seriously for $11 .....there was a few handfuls of greens about 5 slices of apple and some pecans, once again, a huge disappointment, it was quite pitiful. The fried pickles were cold, and really salty. Our server seemed distracted and not with the program. Though I love the concept of using local farms and ingredients when you can, you can do more - I don't think it's the ingredients, but a lack of interest and bad quality control. There are zillions of places to eat in this town, so onto the next one. read more

They serve unique burger choices like bison, lamb, and salmon -- and they have a FANTASTIC quinoa and black bean burger they call "Marathon." Lately my favorite is the beet salad with a marathon patty on top. My wife is a big fan of the truffle fries. Burger Up also has a lot of choices for vegetarians, vegans, and people with gluten allergies. The bar has a lot of different bourbons; the earl grey old fashioned is unique.
