I've been here twice now in the last month, and both times I was amazed. These are half lb hand formed burgers. This is the way it use to be done, and it's done right! Burgers come with fries and the fries are a HUGE amount! If you can eat one of these combos, you probably have an eating disorder. You can't even get your mouth all the way around the burger. You have to eat from the top then some from the bottom. This is probably the best burger place anywhere and the only last standing hand formed thick, huge patty burgers made in California. If you are inflamed by the almost nonexistent patties burger chains like Smash Burger or The Habit serve up, this is the cure. And the price is better too. read more

My father and I were hanging out and decided to have burgers. Since there's really only few choices for burgers in Rio Vista, we went with Burgerlicious. The actual building has been around for a long time, but the names have changed overtime. It's a little bit of nostalgia and I'm not sure if I should eat here...lol. There's outside seating and a walk-up window to order. Pretty convenient place as it's in the heart of Rio Vista and situated directly on Highway 12 as it goes through the City. I got the Burgerlicious burger. Comes with burger patty, bacon, cheese, guac, grilled onions and mushroom. Also pickles, onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo. The burger came with your choice of either fries, garlic fries, and onions rings. The burger with all the toppings was huge. The burger patty was cooked perfectly with a bit of red in the middle, but was greasy, including the bottom of the bun. You expect the grease, but it was a bit much. I chose the onion rings and i was looking forward to some crunchy rings, but instead I got soft and limp onion rings. Not sure what happened with that. I still ate them, but it wasn't the same. Overall, Burgerlicious satisfied our burger desire and considering Rio Vista doesn't have many options, I'd say it's the place to go unless you want traditional franchised fast food. We drive by this place frequently and from the outside looks like it would be a nice place to try. Besides the extremely long wait for the food to cook it was extremely bland and nothing special. The fries were undercooked and burgers were quite heavy and unseasoned. To top it off, they messed up our order but didn't realize it until we got home. Remember to check your order before you leave. This is the kind of funky little place that you know the locals love. It's designed primarily for walk-up and takeout, but there are a few tables inside. Restrooms are outside (or at the neighboring Mexican restaurant if you need an ADA-compliant one) but clean and reasonably maintained. The menu has delicious-sounding variety, supplementing burgers with a list of meaty sandwiches. The food looks gorgeous when it arrives -- my lunch companion's burger was photoshoot-ready. Maybe we hit them at the exhausted end of the lunch rush, as the food was just okay. Just moved to the area and have driven by a few times so thought I would try it out. Ordered just a plain burger with fries. They took my order as soon as I approached the window. The burger looked good. I liked that it had green leaf lettuce instead of the shredded iceberg. Nice tomatoes and mild onion. The bun was very good too. Well, I haven't mentioned the burger. I would swear that it was the 1/2 lb frozen patty that you can get from Costco. I've grilled enough of those during company picnics to know it' was not from fresh meat. It was over cooked and dry. I don't know if they normally add seasoning or not but my burger definitely didn't. Not even salt. The fries were well cooked but came from a bag and also had no salt. Thank goodness for the ketchup. Roadside burger stand has excellent burgers! Large, 1/2 lb, tasty and reasonable prices, includes fries. I had the bacon cheeseburger, the bacon was thick and delicious. If you don't want a well done burger, be sure to specify. Mine came out a little more well than I prefer, but was still tasty. They have excellent milkshakes made with soft serve, old fashioned style. Hubby had pineapple and it had lots of pineapple bits. Friend had banana and it was made with a fresh banana. I'm from a small-town north of Rio Vista (85 miles) and my wife and I drove to a local car dealership in Rio Vista and decided to ask of anywhere good to eat, our salesman pointed us to a seafood restaurant (love seafood and willing to pay the prices) but decided we wanted a burger and went to the first place I looked up and am glad we went there. I'm all about supporting local and small businesses and love ma and pa places and this place has it all. They tried to convince to get the raider burger but im a 49er fan and went against there recommendation and got the 49er burge: massive and delicious, wife got the Cajun and she was impressed. Will definitely go out of the way to eat here again. Staff was young but very friendly and respectful. We recently moved to the (rural) area near Rio Vista and have been trying different businesses. My kids love diner style food so we have given this business multiple opportunities, but they keep coming up short. Here's my issue, I'm a woman of my word and if you say you're going to do something please honor it. I generally spend around 60-70 for our family of four and I expect that my food is going to taste amazing. That was not the case with my last visit. It was hot September day so I placed an online order and asked my husband to pick up. When he got home the food wasn't hot even though we picked up within the suggested pick up time. But fine, no big deal- we were all super hungry and put down our food pretty quickly so we could get on to our favorite part... the ice cream! My 10 yr old daughter told me that her ice cream tastes like gasoline. I laughed and tasted hers and she wasn't kidding. I thought it was a one off, but I tasted all 3 and realized they all had the same chemical flavor. Worried about other kids and families potentially eating something unsafe I immediately called and notified the woman on the phone about the ice cream. She was apologetic and took my name and told me that next time I came down she would replace our milkshakes. She said she was going topull the machine and clean it. Fast forward to today less than 30 days later, we decided to take the kids out to get burgers and our ice cream that has been waiting for us. So, I get to the window and my husband and I ordered food and I told her about the ice cream. She said "oh that was a really long time ago, we replaced the machine like 2-3 months ago. I said no actually it wasn't, it was just last month. She goes on to tell me that she's going to go see if my name was on the wall. She returns and says "nope your name isn't on there." Odd I thought because SHE NEVER EVEN ASKED WHAT MY NAME WAS!!!. At this point I was starting to get irritated and I told her I could give her my receipt and she told me to hold on to ask someone else. When she returned she said they could give us one milkshake. My husband just turned around and walked back to the car. It was obvious he was upset and she literally just stared at me and my kids asking for $70. I excused us and left. I wasn't headed here, but could not resist the wonderful smell and forgot all about tacos. I order a bacon cheese burger with onion rings. It took awhile for my order to come up, there were several people ahead of me; all the meals are prepared after the orders are placed. I did not mind waiting at all. Rio Vista has a nice small town--mid-century vibe and it was fun to spend time at a 1950's diner/drive-in.They have a few tables inside and several outside. The hamburger satisfied my hunger, but it wasn't very tasty and it was overcooked. The saving grace was the bacon it was so tasty and perfectly cooked that I could have eaten a pound of it. The onion rings were pretty good. I like to wander around in the Delta and despite my disappointed with the burger I will stop again. We went here on a whim on a Sunday afternoon and maybe it was an off day, but it was NOT what we were expecting. The people ahead of us had told us they have been waiting for 45 minutes for a 4 person order. When I got to the ordering booth. I asked for iced tea and they didn't serve it to me right away. I finally asked them what's up with the tea and the girl told me she had to "Go next door to get some more". What does that even mean? Why isn't there ice tea ready? We waited 40 MINUTES for our 2 person order. I had my expectations sky high as if this was going to be the best burger ive ever had in my life. What I got in reality was nothing to write home about. Tasted like a regular home made burger made on the frying pan; with meat that had been clearly bought at the local grocery store. There's nothing special about the burger, in fact, it tasted...bland.
