Of course this is pretty much one of the only places open in Monmouth until 11 p.m., so of course, people hang out here around 10:30 getting their milkshake on. They've always been friendly, and they even give a 10 percent discount with your Western student ID card! But what's always baffled me, is that people in Salem (specifically the staff of the Statesman-Journal) love Burgerville SOOOOOO much that they drive the 20 miles both ways to get some on their lunch breaks. I love Burgerville. The menu is awesome, their philosophy on fast food ingredients is cool. That being said, this is sadly the worst one I've been to (out of at least five--all of the others are really quite clean and great) and unfortunately the only one we live near-ish to. Cons: --been ignored by staff several times going inside even just walking up to the counter to order --it's always dirty inside, even if the place is not busy--and I can understand there's not time to clean when they are slammed and that is often, but many times we're there and it's dead and I still have to wipe food off my seat and table first. I have yet to go in and see it clean. --several times had disappointing food-cold, overcooked burger and wet buns. I love a good fast food cheeseburger, but I don't order them at this location because the burger seems to always be overcooked and lacking flavor. Pros: --it's very good at least 70% of the time, the food is fresh and I like the business model. I get the turkey burger because it doesn't seem to be as sensitive to being overcooked as the beef. --the seasonal sides and shakes are why we keep going back --breakfast is also great --the drive thru service is usually great! quick and friendly. If you're hoping for a life changing fast food experience, pick a different Burgerville location, or drive through. the wanted in 48 states billboard drew me in. I'm an advertising trap. I used to think, "yay, I'm traveling through Monmouth, I'll stop at Burgerville". The thing is - it's never that good. I've had 2 instances where my emphatic "no mayo" with my harvest burger is ignored. The fries are never great. I ate a chicken sandwich from there with the largest piece of cartilage ever. It's easy to compare Burgerville to its more famous California counterpart, In N Out. Both feature local ingredients and restrict the construction of new restaurants to a small radius so that meat and potatoes never need to be frozen for shipping. Both are responsible employers, treating their kitchen and waitstaff far better than their big corporate counterparts in the fast food world. Both pride themselves on their clean stores and friendly service. But when it comes to the quality and taste of the food itself, Burgerville thoroughly whomps In N Out. I make this comparison a) for the sake of all the California transplants who make their way to the Pacific Northwest, and b) because In N Out is often cited as the gold standard to which all chain fast food is compared. I admit that I am a big fan of the crossed palms myself, but Burgerville deserves its due as In N Out's equal, if not superior. Burgerville substitutes Oregon Tillamook for In N Out's waxy American cheese, and fresh seasonal shakes for their generic (if tasty) basic chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla concoctions. Burgerville's fries are crisp and hearty where In N Out's are often flaccid or dried out. You do pay more for the quality, and there is no fun secret menu, but it's still a fairly cheap place to get good fast food. read more

I keep trying to like it, but they keep doing things to disappoint me. Today the lady behind the counter was very pleasant, but my burger was smashed. How? There's nothing else in the bag. It was also thrown together without much thought. As you can see from the photo, the ketchup was oozing out the side. The pickles (2 slices) were on top of each other on one side. The burger itself wasn't close to centered. It was warm, not hot too. The cheese wasn't even melted. If I'm going to pay a lot more than other fast food places, it better be much higher quality, and this place just isn't. read more

Local, fresh, friendly, clean, LOVE it! What can I say? Local products are huge for a fast food joint! $8 for a kids meal is obsurd but that's the price for thinkgs like Umpqua, Tillamook and Drape Valley Chicken, I suppose. Chicken strips were undercooked (Eeek!) but the problemo was fixed asap. A Northwest chain, Burgerville has great burgers and milkshakes. They change the flavor of their milkshakes according to what's in season. My favorite is their Oregon Hazelnut milkshake. The prices are higher than typical fast food restaurants, but that's understandable, really, seeing as their ingredients are locally sourced and of high quality. The burgers can be hit or miss, but mostly they're good. And the shakes are off the hook good; I can hardly drive by the place without stopping to get one. Burgerville is a positive part of the Monmouth community, too. LOVE LOVE LOVE the B-Ville! I was traveling through OR with my parents-in-law and they wanted to stop for burgers. "Oh, great" I think,"there goes my healthy eating plan." But wait, this fast food joint has veggie burgers! And not just one veggie burger, but multiple choices! And they have fried asparagus? Holy smokes, I gotta try that. So the healthy eating plan wasn't totally busted, just a little busted. And thanks to their Nutricate receipt that prints out the nutritional value of your meal, I know that I consumed 805 calories for lunch. Still too many calories, but it could have been worse (as evidenced by the calories listed for my husband's meal). We've gone to Burgerville for several years and will no longer be going for lunch/dinner. For a family of 3 it costs $30 and that's sharing a drink. The fry recipe changed a few months ago and now the fries are worse than McDonalds. We overlooked that change but now the menu changed completely and the new Northwest Burger that replaced the Tillamook is horrible. The Original cheeseburgers seem to be the same but we won't be purchasing lunch/dinner as a family anymore as the quality is no longer worth the price. Sad. read more

Burgerville is definitely a great place to grab a burger, especially if you're looking for quality. Their burgers never disappoint in flavor and serving. Wide variety of menu options for a burger joint. Many menu options for those who want to watch what they eat such as vegan options, or vegetarian options. The prices are kind of high, but you definitely get what you pay for. The food is so delicious! My favorites include any milkshakes and the pepper-bacon burger. The milkshakes are spun to order and the burger is so juicy. They have seasonal items that I am a very big fan of such as fried asparagus, and rosemary fries. What other reviewers have said about value and quality I have found to be objective, likewise the many opinions that the seasonal dishes---and only some of them---are what make this chain worthy of patronage. What stands out for me here is the order counter cash register is set up with a display so the checker cannot shortchange you, and then your order is delivered to your table. It's a fast-food experience a little more thoughtfully optimized (I've never used the drive-thru). Not once have I ever had to deal with attitude, either from staff or customers. A very age- and income-neutral venue. It does a heavy trade but I've always been able to find a seat, usually with a good window view of the passing PNW scene. I usually really like Burgerville, but I was very disappointed in the Monmouth location. I ordered a fresh strawberry shake, and it was mostly vanilla. When I mentioned it to the staff member, she argued that it was the right amount of fruit and it was Oregon strawberry so it isn't as flavorful. Burgerville outdoes California. How many California fast food chains (like In-N-Out and The Habit) have "local/fresh/sustainable" splashed across their milkshakes? Their Tillamook cheeseburgers are excellent, as are their veggie burgers (that change according to the season) They have the best onion rings. While my order got messed up (I didn't get my side order of Walla Walla onion rings with chipotle mayo dipping sauce), it was overall excellent. Over priced "school cafeteria burgers". The service is good and the people are great. Food is funky like a bottom feeder burger joint...think White Castle or Dairy Queen. There is no Wendys or Carls within a 30 minute drive so it forces you to make hard choices for "drivethru burgers". Though not a fan of fast food, every so often we enjoy local specialties, such as Walla Walla Onion Rings from Burgerville USA. Today, I wish we had passed on this indulgence. The Monmouth Burgerville used to be fairly good. It was clean, usually pretty friendly and the food was good. Lately, I cannot make this claim. Today, we had to wait nearly 20-30 minutes for two orders of onion rings and a small kids meal. By the time the food was ready (this was through the drive-thru) we weren't even hungry anymore. What they gave us were technically Walla Walla onion rings, but mostly they were globs of bread dripping with oil. The bags they came in were saturated with fat. The kids meal (chicken tenders) was so greasy that our daughter wouldn't touch it. Needless to say, $20.29 worth of "food" has now found its new home in our garbage can. What little we ate left us feeling ill. On another occasion I stopped in just to use the restroom and for some reason, what was once to women's room has become a gender neutral bathroom -- and it was filthy. I'm not saying it was sort of needing a quick once over. I'm saying it was filthy rotten dirty and smelled like urine. It made me want to go home and take another shower. We will not return here. Was so disappointed. So busy catering to the greenies and vegetarians, that they left the rest if their customers behind. My colossal burger was awful! The burger was so thin, I had to take everything off in order to try and taste the beef. Ordered a cherry bliss, believing it was going to be a milkshake. NOT! Made with a coconut base. I hate coconut! And coconut and cherry are not even close to being compatible flavors. Just nasty. I have been to this Burgerville several times and it always seems to be crammed. However because it is always so busy all the tables are either full or dirty. Most of the time you have to clean/bus your own table if the prior patrons didn't. Other than that the food is always great at Burgerville even though it's a bit spendy. Having now eaten at Burgerville three times, I can say this: I'm not very impressed. All 3 times, service was slow, the food was mediocre at best. This time, my girlfriend's ice cream came out 15 minutes before the food, so it was a melted mess by the time we were ready to eat. They got my burger wrong, and it was just plain and not very good. The "bacon" was super thin, and small, and reduced to a strip of carbon. So glad I paid $1 per piece for that. The fries were over done and over salted. The burgers here are mediocre, though they do use good ingredients. What you really want to come here for is the seasonal foods, like rosemary fries and sweet potato fries. The seasonal shakes are also fantastic --I'm a huge fan of the cherry shakes. Their seasonal cookies can be hit and miss though. My complaint is that orders are often wrong if you use the drive through. Some food also doesn't look appetizing at all. Burgers are guilty of this due to the cheap bun. My mocha perk was more like a vanilla shake with a smudge of coffee on the bottom, virtually no ground coffee detectable, not even a sprinkle on top.
