This 65 year old brand clearly focuses on quality, local, fresh, seasonal. A nice kids area decorated with kids crayon drawings and toddler sized seating, books and games. Yes it has come to this... Here is the review of a chain restaurant that you did not ask for. Let's begin with what I appreciate. Cleanliness. I see the effort and the results. This place may look outdated but they keep it clean for the amount of foot traffic. As I am typing this, an employee is taking a towel to surfaces and picking up forgotten napkins. I walked in and had a place at the counter so I immediately was greeted. Order was placed and I did have to ask for the code to use the bathroom while I waited. Wait time was eight minutes for a simple menu item. My order was made accurately. The bun was soft, patty was cooked well, condiments were not overwhelming. All said, it was done right. I even just heard and saw a manager speaking and guiding an employee. The fact that there were no disappointments and that this location may face its struggles, I cannot be disappointed. $18 and some odd change for a cold burger that tasted like it was a day old. Stopped in while I waited for my sisters appointment to finish, placed my order, food came out maybe 5-10 mins later thinking that they're making my food fresh. Fries tasted ok but were also cold. The strawberry lemonade was watered down with huge chunks of strawberries in it making it hard to suck out of the straw. The gentleman who took my order way nice and helpful, he is the only reason why I'm giving this any stars at all. Location is old, bathroom could use some cleaning. I am a northwest girl through and through and Burgerville used to be one of my most favorite places. I love how they source things locally, and it has always tasted delicious. But I'm a little disappointed, wait, I am a lot disappointed in the fries. They used to have the best fries in the world. They completely changed whatever the recipe is and now they are greasy and taste like they've been sitting in oil for a while. If there's any way they could return to the original recipe, this would be seven stars out of five. That said, I do like their Tillamook cheeseburger. I like their seasonal items. Their onion rings used to be great, but they're pretty greasy in the last few years. And they are a bit expensive for the quality. But since I'm from the northwest, I'll be back. Ended up with a BAD upset stomach. Trip to the doctor, trip to the lab for bloodwork, abnormal bloodwork results, and four days later still paying for it. My first hint at trouble was the male employee who started to take my order walked away from the intercom and left me saying "hello, are you still there?" I love to visit local fast-food chains when I travel so I was hyped to try Burgerville. I was impressed by some of the items and ingredients listed on the menu, like tilamook cheddar and halibut, but was ultimately let down by the halibut fish sandwich. The fish is on the small side and I didn't care for how it was fried, or maybe it was the type of bread crumbs used. I would give it another shot and try their veggies burger, or salads. Grass fed burger with some of the best fries I've ever had. The only thing I have to criticize is that when you bring the food out, be sure to include napkins. Oh, the Pumpkin shake? Visiting Portland for the first time with our native friends and our first stop was burgerville! They raved about missing this place so I was pleasantly surprised when I seen a vegan option on the menu, especially for a fast food franchise! They even offered a plant based shake which I did not try but wish i did. The burger was super fresh!! I thoroughly enjoyed the food here. The cashier helping us was very sweet and helpful, inside the restaurant is kind of like an older establishment so it takes you back to the 90's in a way. They were skinny and did not hold the seasoning well, it was mostly oil, the garlic aioli saved it though. The battered "fish" resembled that of a premade freezer meal. The milkshake was thick and creamy and would be the thing I go back for. Again, more of a tradition kind of environment. The servers would bring you the food which is rare nowadays so that was nice! This was my very first time experiencing Burgerville, and it was actually pretty dang good. I went around 11:00am because I was a bit hungry after dropping my friend off at work nearby. This drive thru came up in my recommendations! The drive thru has a unique layout in the sense that it loops you through the order area and back out to the main building for payment and food. There is a large parking lot as well, for those who wish to dine-in instead. It vaguely reminded me of a In-N-Out burger, but not quite as good. Still miles better than McDonald's or Burger King. The pepper bacon cheeseburger was amazing! Fresh, well-cooked and flavorful. Staff was super friendly and food came out quick! I am 45 now and I've been coming to Burgerville over twenty years. It was always excellent, however, the last couple years it's gone downhill. All of that changed today when I went to the Hawthorne location in Southeast Portland. The young man who took my order through the drive-through was very polite and professional. I asked him if I could eat dine-in instead. And he said I'll have it for you here. I ordered the Sunrise Burger. It was probably the best thing I've ever eaten at Burgerville! I was SO impressed overall that I asked the lady (who I thought was the manager) if she was. She cheerfully said yes. I explained all of the above to her and to please pass it along to her staff. Recently moved to Portland and thought I'd give Burgerville a try since I'd never been before. Never again. I ordered a no. 6 burger no mayo with fries and a drink and it was $14, which was already crazy expensive. 10 minutes later out comes the tiniest little burger and fries I think I've ever gotten from a fast food place. In no universe is this worth $14. Then, I get home and the thing is DRENCHED in mayo. Like, a comical amount. It's on both sides of the burger, and by weight I think the thing is more mayo than beef. Even if someone ordered extra mayo it would be an outrageous amount. Based on some other reviews it sounds like this is just the amount of mayo that comes standard, which is just completely insane? I think you have to chalk Burgerville up to the fast casual craze. I met up with a buddy and he called it fast food. But you have to wait for your food and being that the meat itself is antibiotic and hormone free, it's probably safe to say that it is way better quality than anything Mickey D's ever put out. He had a coupon for buy one get one free shakes, and wow...... a chocolate cherry shake for me and an coffee one for him. Damn, was that one great shake! But let's talk about the Peppered Bacon Bleu Cheese crumbles burger. Soft cornmeal dusted bun, caramelized onions, lettuce, garlic aioli, lots of bleu cheese and enough bacon. The only disappointment? There wasn't enough of a burger patty! It got lost in there. You figure when you pay over six bucks for a burger.... you'd have a burger! But it wasn't there. Look, I like their philosophy which is fresh, local, sustainable, and I like the use of local products. Tillamook cheese and pretty much everything is local to Oregon, Washington or California. Cool concept, and I wished more fast casual places would do that. But, as I mentioned, when you are paying a decent amount (well, it's relative for a fast casual place) you expect meat on the bun. It says a 1/4 lb on their website, but I'm not sure that's what I got. I will return to give them another try, but I hope I have a larger burger next time. read more

Never in my life have I written a review but man, whoever made my Northwest Cheeseburger with no tomato no pickle at 1:11pm on October 24th deserves praise. Never through my life's venture have my eyes descended upon such a well crafted Cheeseburger. It's perfectly level bottom bun with no sog, the perfect amount of sauce to deter said buns soggification. The life force of every cow leading up to this singular patty. The perfectly ripe lettuce bursting with juices birthed through the accretion of Earth across Eons, perfectly placed in the center of the Cheeseburger, not too little, not too much hanging from every side. I believe two things descended to that Burgerville today. First, a god. As figured, I never laid eyes on the God that crafted me this Cheeseburger. I did however meet the second person brought down that day, the gods Prophet, Kenneth. Kenneth swooped in when I approached the drive thru intercom. He spoke swiftly and confidentially, instantly catching the drift of my order, matching the pockets of time between my requests while repeating each and every one for confirmation.
