Second visit and somehow even better than I remembered. After moving to Bakersfield, I'd been craving Next Level Burger and finally decided it was time. Enter my MVP Uber Eats driver, who heroically delivered lunch all the way out to Happy Valley while I was visiting my niece and brand-newish great-niece. Whoever accepted that delivery deserves a medal...or at least a burger. In this fellow's case - a generous tip! One tiny mystery: the app seemed determined to make us order a side. We both ended up with the onion rings, which were crispy, and golden. My niece ordered the Chik'n Bacon Ranch burger and I went with the Steakhouse Burger on a pretzel bun. Naturally, we sampled each other's food because that's what family is for. The Chik'n Bacon Ranch was good, but that Steakhouse Burger? Wow. Deep, savory flavor, caramelized onions, horseradish aioli and a creamy blue cheese that honestly had me doing a double take. If nobody told me it was plant-based, I would've never guessed. Last visit I fell hard for the American Chzburger. This time the Steakhouse Burger stole my heart. Needless to say, my plans for a dessert mysteriously disappeared after finishing that burger and a pile of onion rings. No regrets. Next time I'm back in Portland, the Ghost Pepper Popper Burger has my name written all over it. If you're vegan, vegan-curious, or just hungry, go. Your taste buds will thank you. read more

I normally like the burger here. Today was the first time I ordered a Cesar salad and was quite a disappointing experience. The salad was supposed to come with kale, but it came with mix green and some baby kale that was already old and yellowed... just really poor quality and lack of vibrant energy to compare with Veggie Grill's Cesar salad. I had their Caesar salad just a few days before, and I really loved it so I thought I'll come to next level burger to order the same thing. Ordered online for delivery so did not stop into the store. Ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich, onion rings and a peanut butter milkshake. The buffalo chicken sandwich was really good, I would definitely have that again. The onion rings were good with a Big Crunch but a lot of breading for only a little onion. And the milkshake unfortunately left something to be desired. It just seemed to be mostly milk without any real flavor. I did enjoy the incredible amount of chocolate chips though! Next Level Burger is a plant-based paradise! Was warmly welcomed by the staff and walked through the menu. It is a fun / bright welcoming vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. The diverse menu, especially the variety of sandwiches, left me spoiled for choice. After going back and forth on the many different burger options, I landed on the Beyond Fire Burger. It was a flavor explosion, and the fact that it's made with organic ingredients was a bonus. I will give this another try in the future I'm sure, I would still like to try the shakes as I didn't have time to this time. So the price points are decently reasonable, minimum $11+ for a burger with specialty paddies and such make sense. Although I tried the basic with Gouda and house sauce (1000 Island) and it was pretty alright, a bit underwhelming, perhaps going with something with more variety would help, or some sides like fries or tots which are more on the pricier end. I think onion rings are roughly like $1 per from what I was gathering. I am very stoked about a 100% vegan place as someone who's been vegan for 10 years, but I was a bit disappointed at the end. Their system for taking credit cards has the tipping option that people can turn around and see afterwards, and I personally have guilt not doing so because most businesses don't pay their employees enough. I didn't anticipate this though so the $12 I splurged on to eat out (I do it maybe once a month, tight budget) turned into $16 for the 15% tip including one for a product I had to leave refund because I didn't have time to eat it before I went somewhere. Tbh I would rather pay more in product for a higher pay for employees & making it tip free than asking like that. Although with American tipping culture they likely make much more than they regularly would, especially as tipping culture is usually only around restaurants with waiters. Anyways! I would still recommend this place with a disclaimer for the above, and I do wish they'd just use a regular credit card acceptance interface and pay their employees to where they don't feel the need to ask for tips. read more

I am fan of Next Level Burger. They manage to take all of the flavor of fast food and make it slightly better for the planet. (If not for our health... Actually, it's a little better for our health! They publish nutrition info and burgers range from 400 to 1200 calories. Their ingredients are organic and non-GMO too. I digress.) They're 100% plant-based, but you wouldn't be able to tell if you didn't already know. Unfortunately, doing fast food plant-based means the prices can't be the same as your typical burger chain. Burgers range from $8.85 and up. I'm so excited for the day plant-based materials cost less to manufacture! I stopped by this particular location during Burger Week 2022, and while their special wasn't my favorite, in general their burgers and shakes and fries have never been a miss for me. Staff was as friendly as ever, and the small L-shared interior provided a handful of seating options. There is a small parking lot at this location and it can fill up. I tried to try this location and me and my partner entered when the place was empty and we were the only customers there other than takeout orders. We stood there like 3-5 minutes and this dark haired girl working the register wouldn't even acknowledge us and was too busy talking to her coworkers who were sitting at the bar. Their menu kept moving so we had to keep waiting to read it over and when we were ready nobody came to us to take our order. We were put off by this lack of service and just went somewhere else. I love NLB. I've been a fan since their opening on Hawthorne many years ago and they have stayed consistent if not gotten better over the years. I always get their cheeseburger w/ pepper Jack cheese and honestly even as a meat eater, this burger is one of my favorites. This time we tried the buffalo chicken sandwich & their fish sandwich. Both were so damn good... a must is always their onion rings, fries and one of their shakes too. The place is always clean and staff always very kind. I don't live down the street anymore but I'm happy to see them opening more locations around Portland would make the trek for one of my favorite vegan burgers either way. Love me a good vegan burger so I'll give Next Level Burger a rating closer to 3.5 stars for the burger. We ordered online for pick up but they're also doing delivery during this time. If you pick up they do have some tables outside if you want to eat at the location. WHAT WE GOT + Double burger + Fries + Cookies & Cream Shake When reading the reviews i was torn between getting a single or double party but ended up getting a double since I was having a late dinner. Based on my visit I would recommend getting the single patty with all the fixins since the ratio between patties and buns were off for me. You'll definitely be full don't get me wrong but the bread ended up breaking apart when trying to bite in so bites weren't consistent. I'd still come back and try a burger again since the patty was dense and the veggies were fresh. I'd skip the fries next time since they were OK. Shake was alright as well but I could probably pass next time. I will say we ended up coming early to the restaurant to wait until our order was ready and didn't get a notification. We saw a bunch of bags lined up so we just went in and asked and our order was already ready so if you're picking up I would be sure to just go in since they don't update the app as frequently. read more

Wow! Amazing! Lots of flavor, most adjustable DoorDash menu, and great portions. I ordered from DD a lot while in Portland because I needed quick food sent to me during a busy conference. Next Level Burger took their DD menu to the next level with adjustments. Everything could be removed or added. I also appreciated that the Burger options clearly labeled which parts had gluten. I ordered a Maverick Burger with substitutions: lettuce instead of a bun, chipotle mayo instead of BBQ sauce, and no cheese or onion rings. It came in a bowl with a good amount of lettuce and lots of flavor. I don't know what they put in the Burger but it was phenomenal! The chipotle mayo added a good kick. (See my picture) I also got a small side of crinkle cut fries without seasoning. These were solid and a great portion size for a small. Note: the fries are cooked in the same oil as gluten items so keep an eye out if you have Celiac or severe allergies. For a drink I had to order a shake since they had lactose free options for the base. I got the Mint Chocolate Shake with the coconut base and added chocolate chips. I ordered a straw which was a wide paper, compostable one. It was a little melted by the time it arrived but so good. The coconut sweetness went well with the mint. Also don't let the picture of shake with chocolate chips on top fool you. There was a serious amount of chips in my shake! Maybe like 1/4 of a cup. The burger was pretty forgettable but that cheese was super impressive. I'd put it side by side with regular gouda most any day. We got fries and tots and both sides were pretty meh. But I guess there's not a ton you can do with fries and tots anyhow. I don't remember our total, but I do remember leaving and thinking that it was pretty expensive, certainly higher than some of the other vegan spots we'd visited.
