I have used Burgess on many an occasion and found prices fair and service excellent!

Is a worry-free move possible? With Burgess on your side, it is! When planning our move from Riverside to Pasadena, I wanted someone local, not just some franchisee of a national chain. I knew about Burgess--they are the people who move for the University of California at Riverside. They had moved offices for my husband and me and we had been impressed with their professionalism. But we solicited estimates from three other locals before making our decision. What sold us was the professional way that they handled the estimate. Of course, price was a factor, but Burgess was neither the highest nor the lowest. The low estimates worried us--when it came to moving we feared we would get what we paid for. The Burgess estimate seemed thoughtful, thorough, and realistic. In the end, we paid a bit under the estimate as we moved some of our things ourselves--so they were pretty accurate. They also set a realistic timetable which they beat by a couple of hours. During the initial meeting, the Burgess rep mentioned that many of their crew had been in their employ for many years--one driver for 18 years! That spoke well of the company--and indeed, subsequent interactions with the office staff and then with the packers and movers themselves impressed us with their professional and courteous service. They know moving is stressful and go out of their way to be kind! Burgess will sell you new boxes at half the price of retail outlets for your pre-move packing. They also offer recycled boxes (I am not sure if they charge for them) but those boxes are subject to availability and they didn't have any when we moved. The Burgess men packed us in one day and moved us the next. It was all smooth with no surprises, no breakages. The gentlemen who got us out of Riverside and set up our house were just that--gentlemen! In a move to a new house, you have a lot to worry about. What was amazing to me was that in the weeks leading up the Big Day, I found myself not worrying at all about the actual move. I trusted Burgess from our first meeting and my expectations were exceeded! We couldn't recommend them more highly! read more

I've used several moving companies over the years and by far, Burgess has been the best. First, they sent someone out the day after I called to give a really good estimate. They were a little more expensive than some of the other places I called, but they also didn't do on-site estimates, so who knows what the additional charges would have been? Once I signed the contract, they took care of everything. A guy came in the day before and packed up the entire place with great care. And it was really well labeled and organized - which I've appreciate every time I go in the garage and unpack one of the remaining boxes. The day of the move, they were on time and were really fast in packing up as well as unloading and setting up the big stuff. Nothing was damaged. I would have given 5 stars, but on packing day they were nearly 3 hours late because their truck ran out of gas before they got here. That's something that shouldn't happen. They were well worth the money and if we move again, they're getting the call. read more

Just used Burgess to move our household goods for the second time and we are very satisfied. The initial call I made to inquire about pricing was very professional and a walk-through of our house was scheduled to get an accurate cost estimate. The walk-through was very thorough and we received a quote right away. After scheduling the move, we received a confirmation call a few days prior and then the truck and 3 movers showed up right on time the day of the move. We had already packed our items so the guys just had to move everything to the truck. They did take apart the beds and bed frames and reassembled everything when we arrived at the new house. They were diligent in their work, very friendly, and were very careful with our items and respectful of the walls (and new paint at the new location). Professional, Respectful & Meticulous While I do read social media reviews on sites like Yelp, Angie's List, Home Depot, etc. I very seldom write a review. With that said, I would like to share my outstanding experience with Burgess North American. We are log time residents of SoCal and lived in our current home for over 20 years. We decided to sell our home in 2015 and move cross country. We solicited moving bids from four different moving companies. We ended up with three quotes as one mover did not bother to show up for his scheduled appointment. We selected Burgess not based on price alone but on ease of doing business and professional follow up, which is extremely important during a stressful time. Burgess did exactly (and more) as they promised. The packing & moving teams showed up on time and treated our household items with care and respect. We were absolutely amazed how they packed our possessions and loaded the moving van. Our moving van showed up in Louisville on-time as promised. While it was a different mover unloading the van at our new home, they did comment what a great job was done with the packing. NOT ONE SINGLE item was broken, cracked or chipped during the move! The Burgess moving team are not guys picked on the corner by Home Depot, they are truly experienced professionals. I highly recommend Burgess Moving. We moved from Indio to Prescott utilizing the services of Burgess Moving and Storage/North American Van Lines, Our move was a two stage process. Our furniture was stored in Palm Springs before moving to its final destination in Prescott. After the truck was loaded in Indio the driver presented us with 7 documents including "Household Inventory", "Customer declaration of value" and "North American Van Lines bill of Lading & Freight Bill". Effectively you are agreeing to the inventory and its condition. The "Customer declaration of value" is much different. In the flurry of last minute with the truck running we initialed and signed as requested. Unfortunately, this was a mistake. We initialed next to the prefilled Option 2. We now know Option 2 waived full replacement value for damaged or lost items. This means the movers settlement based on weight multiplied by 60 cents. The weight is not actual but determined by the Military Weight Guide. Now fast forward to our move. Our Ethan Allen dining room table and chairs arrived without the table legs!! Because of Option Two agreement, North American Van Lines will settle for $66.00! The table is not a table any longer and is not functional and will most likely be destroyed. North American Van Lines do not differentiate quality....it is a weight as published in the Military Weight Guide regardless if the item was Ethan Allen or Big Lots and has nothing to do with the actual weight of the item. Another example was a patio chair was broken. It is teak and made by Brown Jordan, North American Van Lines are settling for $24.00. Those examples are two of 14 total claims. North American Van Lines hold to the Military Weight Guide. The company lost the legs of our dining table and destroyed a teak patio chair and offer $90.00 compensation. I do not recommend North American Van Lines or Burgess Relocation. Beware of accepting their estimate. Reach an agreement of your coverage before the truck arrives and is loaded. Better still find another mover. There are many to choose from. read more

I had a fantastic experience with my move with Burgess. The two guys they sent, Andy and Edgar, showed up at about 8:10 am and were courteous, patient, and fast. They got me moved out within 2 hours (I was 90% packed up in boxes but they helped me close them up and pack some last-minute stuff) and we were on the road. The guys kept a positive attitude all day, even when hauling heavy boxes of books, and asked me thorough questions about where I wanted things. They never rushed me and were very patient with my then-4-month-old puppy who wanted to sniff them or bark at them. The entire process lasted half a day and cost me around $1500 (driving time is doubled and our was around 2 hrs) but it was so worth it. They took the pressure and stress off of moving for me and made me feel confident and comfortable about the whole thing. Oh, and I called the day before to schedule! They were really fantastic. Stop shopping right now and hire these guys. I've moved 40 times in my 59 years and this, by far, was the easiest move of my life. And, this move had all the potential to be a disaster/comedy because we had them pack and move two locations and merge into a third location. Also, one behemoth piece of furniture had to be taken from the house via lowering it from the balcony, but, it was all FLAWLESS. Packing, flawless. Moving out, flawless. Moving in, flawless. This business has been around a long time, and it shows. It's a good tight ship, the owners are down-to-earth and the employees are happy and enjoy working there. Petice managed our project, and she was stellar, our communication could not have been better. The guys were skilled, honest, very efficient, and cheerful. They had respect for our stuff and for us. WOW! Everything associated with this move was a credit to Burgess and their amazing staff. I had a complicated move from a large house into two smaller apartments. They came early in the morning, well equipped, and ready to get started! Not only were they extremely polite and courteous, they were careful and quick! I was quoted 8.5 hours with 6 guys, and it ended up at 5.5 hours total. All of this was accomplished from a three story home into 3rd and 2nd floor apartments for ~$1,800. Bill, Ted, Reggie, Daniel, Manuel (and cannot remember the last guy's name, sorry!) were all amazing! My family is so grateful! Burgess has a dirty little secret which we discovered during our move with them. Did you know that they will take no financial responsibility for any negligence on their part for damage to your goods? This is exactly what happened to us. Negligence by Burgess' employees when they incorrectly loaded the truck caused damage to several items in our recent move from Riverside to Los Angeles--a sleigh bed headboard seriously damaged, a leaf on a butler table ripped off at the hinges and other crushed and smashed items. We were encouraged by office staff to get estimates to have these items fixed and we would be taken care of. When the estimates were presented I was notified by Tim Burgess that Burgess holds that these costs were my responsibility since my insurance policy had a deductible and the damages were not over the deductible of the policy. Whoa! Since when does liability shift away from the party whose negligence caused the damage? So the bottom line is that Burgess disavows all liability for its employees' negligence. In fact, their employees have no incentive to be at all careful with your valued possessions since damages to your possessions cost Burgess nothing out of pocket. When I objected and presented these same arguments, Tim Burgess tried to pay me to go away with a check for a fraction of the damage claims. Being principled people, we sent the check back with a letter stating that the amount was inadequate and reminding him that we had spent approximately $14,000 on two moves with Burgess in the past 5 years and this was no way to treat a good customer. Mr. Burgess did not have the courtesy to even respond. The bottom line is--if you are looking for a moving company that treats customers fairly and has some measure of corporate responsibility and ethical values, look elsewhere. read more

I had used this company about 10 years ago. They had given me a quote for storage and moving. I was in the middle of my home being built and the storage was for 4 months. The rep showed up and estimated our household. It was pricy, but we had wanted piece of mind. One month later a new bill had arrived and it was $3,000 more than the estimated price. I had contacted an attorney because now my furniture was in their possession and my hands were tied. My attorney had contacted the owner and he refused to respond to any correspondence. Then I was informed that they would not move us into our new home as per our contract. We hired another company and that had cost us an additional $2,000. The stress free experience had caused us nothing more than stress. I had reported them to the BBB and they had fed them some B.S. I had just wanted the experience to be over because I could have taken them to court and would have won because the fine print clearly stated they had to hold to the estimate. I had contacted the DOT and they had told me they were wrong to do that. My furniture arrived damaged and they had paid out $200. I am writing this now because I am in the market to move again and their name had surfaced on my search. Moving is a very stressful experience and these people are crooks. I have nothing to gain from this except that I wish to alert the public about this company and the way they do business. read more

This is the second time I have used Burgess for local moving. They are absolutely wonderful to work with. I have moved many times and I can tell you that working with a moving company is not always pleasant. The entire team at Burgess makes you feel like family and they are very attentive to every aspect of your move. I have my grandmother's china and various other pieces of furniture that are special to me and was concerned about them during the move. The team made sure they took careful measures to pack and/or move these items. They are also a "happy" team - providing some levity during a stressful day of moving which made the experience even better. I was put in touch with Burgess after being failed by another company. Since this was at the last minute, I did not have time to interview Burgess as I had done the other companies and they did not have time to assess my move other than by a phone conversation with Tom and some pictures sent to them. This was my first time to use a moving company. Tom was able to calm my panic and give me confidence that together we would get the job done. I commend Eloy and Joe. They arrived on time, worked hard through the entire move, and are well-trained. Because of the situation the first company put us in, to say the least, this move was not as smooth as it would have been if Burgess had been involved from the start. Moving made easy!! From my first phone call to their office to make an appointment for an estimate, to when everything was moved into our new home, this company was the best. Nathan Doyel the salesman was very helpful and gave us a very fair estimate to pack and move all our household items and furniture. The packers, Ted, Steve and Martine arrived on time and worked diligently until every single item was packed. The following day Eloy and his 3 co-workers arrived at 8:00 am and loaded all our effects onto 2 trucks. They worked extremly hard, even though it was almost 90 degrees. They then had to offload everything which they did with extreme care and placed it exactly where we wanted it. Job well done!! read more

I am very disappointed in my experience with this company. I had a 3:15 appointment and rushed to get there after work, showing up at 3:22. Patiff had already called at 3:18 and with a very rude voice said that she would wait for a little while but had another appointment at 5:00. I was very apologetic but she didn't seem to care. I arrived at home and the first thing I did was apologize for being late. She didn't introduce herself. She didn't respond, in fact she rolled her eyes, and then she asked me how flexible I was on our move date. She told me that the two days I requested were completely booked up. As we entered my home she started asking questions about packing and had me sign a paper stating that I received a booklet. She asked if we would be needing them to move everything or just the furniture. At that time my 3 year old daughter entered the room playing into a little flute she has. She stopped talking, rolled her eyes again, and said that she would wait for "that child" to stop. I took the flute from my daughter and asked Patiff to give us an estimate for moving everything and a number for moving just the heavy furniture. She refused and said she would only give me an estimate for one or the other. Since I was given NO idea of the cost of the move I told her I couldn't answer that questions yet. I asked her why she was coming into my home and being so disrespectful. I told her that all she had to do was call and say that both move dates were unavailable. Her tone of voice, mannerisms, and facial expressions were rude and condescending. She proceeded to raise her voice at me and say "YOU were the one who was 15 minutes LATE!" I lost my cool and told her to get out of my house. She kept yelling so I told her to get the F--- out of my house before I called the cops. I called the company, the dispatch person was very apologetic and polite. He asked me to leave a message with Tim Burgess. I also left Patiff a voicemail saying that I expected her apology. THIS IS NOT HOW A BUSINESS SHOULD TREAT A CUSTOMER. I understand that I was late. But I was 7 minutes late. Had she bothered to even stop and introduce herself we might have gotten off to a great start. I am sad that one person can ruin business for a company that otherwise has great reviews. She may have been having a bad day, but she had NO business taking it out on me. read more

Burgess was actually chosen by the Public Guardian's office to store a bunch of valuable items belonging to my recently widowed aunt with Alzheimer's while the family was in court getting some predators kicked out of her house. After we won the case, we have been working with them to remove the super valuable stuff and get it into a secure lock-up, and the people at Burgess have been extremely friendly and helpful. The facility itself is really well run, and the staff are great. read more
