When asked them to move the van a little heavy set Hispanic man got into my face and started screaming at me "Are you done? Are you done? Are you ready to leave?" Not professional at all. I was only given one option for my job-sponsored move to Riverside, so had to go with Burgess. Honestly I was not impressed with this company. For one the communication was lacking. I was told the movers had another job to do before mine so they wouldn't arrive until the afternoon. Imagine my surprise when they showed up at 8am with 5 minutes warning. When I mentioned this to the head office the response was "most people don't complain when we are early", but this was several hours early and it was lucky anyone was even home to let them in. They also damaged several items - a marble table and a coffee table were completely trashed and several other items had minor damage. I get that things can break during moves, but the furniture that was trashed had not even been wrapped properly - my marble table top (which lifts off - no screws) hadn't even been boxed. When I brought it up with their office they suggested I replace the marble table with a faux marble veneer item worth half the price. Finally, I ended up moving again about a year after my first move. Due to COVID I had to arrange the move remotely on a short time frame and since I was at least familiar with Burgess I considered giving them another chance. They didn't bother to ask for an item list or photos before making the quote, which ended up being 2- to 3-times higher than the other reputable moving companies, including the one I used that managed to deliver all my items in one piece. read more

I used these folks to move from a 2500 sq. foot house + 250 sq foot storage unit. The crew was great and extremely helpful over the two days they were packing up the house. They handled our stuff with great care, and moved some things they were not taking (very fragile things) up to our garage so we could easily drive them ourselves. We used Burgess to move out of state. We ended up having an overflow of our items because they did not prepare properly after evaluating everything prior. They had North American Trucking pick up another households items first so there wasn't enough room for our items. Now it has been over 3 weeks and and we still have not received the rest of our items. Tom, from Burgess, sent me multiple emails that he can't do anything and has passed the responsibility on us to follow up directly with North American Trucking. UPDATE - And just like that we go from three stars to two. I am now doing the coordinating and phone calls now instead of my "move coordinator" who still can't figure out how to initiate an email but only respond with updates AFTER I initiate them. And after everything, my belongings will be delivered to me four days AFTER my delivery window - glad to see they are a company of their word! I realise they will write me off as a needy or demanding customer, but I don't find it to be rocket science to give updates, send receipts and paperwork in a timely manner without request, or be on time. Customer service gets you EVERYWHERE with me, and theirs has been seriously lacking. "Hey, weather is really bad, truck will be late" - no worries, I get it, tell the driver to be safe! Moving from 78209 to 92507 was very overwhelming. I've moved before, but this was a move that tools a team to Ferber from one state to the next. My POC was Rachel, she served as the voice between me, the employer and the relocator. I was a bit nervous considering the move was taking place rights around the 4th but of July. Nonetheless, pick up & delivery was made ahead of schedule. Once I made it to 92507, I had the chance to meet the team and visit Burgess. Once there, Rachel and I embraced in a bear hug as if we conquered a war-which we did. My husband and I have never hired movers before so we were nervous. We interviewed three companies and went with Burgess, even though they weren't the lowest quote. A big thing to me was the vibe of the company and I felt good with the estimator they sent to us. The trucks pulled up promptly on moving day and 6 men piled out, walked the house with us and got busy! These guys were working hard! They were very friendly. Once we arrived at our new home, which was a 2 story as opposed to the original 1 story, we could tell that they were tiring out. They still worked hard, but near the end they began to slip a tad. Not all of the boxes made it to the correct spot in the house, instead several were left stacked in the garage. One gentleman was trying to assemble my son's bunkbed was tired and very noticeably frustrated. My complaints are really minor as they are human, we have a lot of junk, and it was a hot day. I would recommend Burgess to a friend and if we ever move again, which I hope not, we would certainly give them a call! read more

I don't know where to begin. After 24 years of living in the same apartment we bought a house. Now what? So many stressful things to wade through. We got recommendations for a lot of things, but couldn't get a recommendation for a mover to save our lives. We tried D&D and they didn't return 2 emails and 2 phone calls. Then we tried United Vanlines, figuring a bigger company would be better. Their referral person called us at 7:15 in the morning to tell us he had car trouble and wouldn't be making our estimate appt. So in desperation I tried the next company with a good rating on Yelp and called Burgess. I wish I had got the person's name who I spoke to, because she was terrific. Said there was no reason to come to our place for an estimate, she could do it over the phone. No extra charge for the apartment being upstairs and an upfront estimate. Eloy and Joseph were our movers and they were like a shining ray of light after the hassle of getting everything ready to move. They went out of their way to make it as easy as possible on us even though they were having to make multiple trips up and down stairs with very heavy items and then walk them out to the parking lot. THIS COMPANY IS THE BEST! This is my story: As the previous reviewer, I called United because I used them for an interstate move and they had done a great job. I thought that I would try them again for my move here in the city. Unfortunately, THEY DROPPED THE BALL...BIG TIME. From being late for the estimate appointment, to over charging on the estimate to never returning emails. Poor customer service, United. Shame on you! I then deceided to try Burgess Moving. Thank God. From Rachel in Customer Service, to Ed in Management, and Mike, Joe and Victor in Moving....these people are tthe bomb. Rachel spoke with me first. She is polite, informative and very helpful.. She spoke with Ed and set me up an appointment for him to come out and give me an estimate. Ed was on time, a few minutes early, in fact. From the moment we started our tour through my moving nightmare, he was reassuring, confident in his company and workers, and professional. He spoke to me with kindness and cares about your situation and understands how upsetting it is to people in this stressful time. His calming nature leaves you feeling you have nothing to worry about......Which he told me many times after all my questions. Mike, Joe and Victor arrived right on time. I was quoted between 8:00 and 8:30. They arrived at 8:10, clean, professional and ready to work. My situation was a little different as I had to move 2/3 of our things into a storage unit and I am combining 3 households. I had asked the storage facility before hand if any size truck could come into the facility and was told yes. After loading all the things that were going in our house first and starting into the storage things, I called the facility to make sure the 45 foot semi could make it in. Well, I was informed wrong.... the truck won't fit...it's too big.....OMG....Mike called Ed and Ed got it all situated for me. We spoke and he reassured me its not a problem. He even came down and spoke to the manager at the facility to make sure my move went smoothly. I told you these guy are great! Onward HO,,,The guys got all my things in the truck, and believe me we have a lot of stuff without any damage to my house I was moving out of and/or my belongings. They are fast, efficient and wrap all your things to protect them. They go above and beyong the call of duty. Lunch time......We provided lunch...that was the least I could do. They dont expect it....but come on people....they are working their asses off doing one of the things we HATE to do.....it wasnt enough on my part. They didnt even take 1/2 and hour to eat and rest....back to work. Onto the storage unit....they had to shuttle my stuff (Ed set up a smaller truck and driver to come and help, I can't remember the drivers name..Lenny, I think.....but he was great too) into a truck and then to storage. Three loads later.......Im feeling bad for them but they don't even flinch. Reassuring me and doing everything I asked of them with a positivie attitude. I am picky with my things and I thought having them move and remove and pack into my storage unit might cause damage or problems, but it didn't. They packed my storage unit with care and ease. Next, the house.....Thank goodness we are almost done. This was the easy part. Again, the guys were efficient and fast. Joe even helped my elderly mom with her recliner in her room to make sure she could recline where he placed the chair...AAAAhhhh....so nice. Finally....we are done....Yes....and before 5:00. Can you believe it? It was a long day but I couldnt have asked for a better group of people to help me out at this most stressful time. I can't say enough good things for this company and its employees. Burgess Moving is the BOMB! Hire them for your move. You wont be disappointed. They treat you as they would treat their own family. Not only that.....the move was $800 less than what United quoted me. I will definitely use them again and refer them to whoever I can :-). read more

My spouse and I (both separately and together) have had some pretty horrific experiences when moving. So when we needed to move from a large house we were selling to a much smaller apartment, we were not at all looking forward to the task. In addition to the usual stress involved with relocating one's family, we have both felt at the mercy of moving companies that were unmoved by the emotional turmoil we were experiencing, as well as having suspicions that we were somehow being ripped off on pricing. A lot of these moving companies never give you all the hidden costs up front, and once they've got all your stuff, you're at their mercy. ("Oh! you want that stuff to go in a box? Well that's an extra cost", or "Really? No one mentioned the tax we charge to have a newbie help us move your stuff? It's an educational training tax. You do want to support furthering education ... don't you?!!!!" and my favorite ... "Yeah, the quote is only a guideline. Customers should always expect that we will come in much higher than that. Sign here to get your stuff off our truck. Will that be cash or check? No we don't take credit cards any more.") So I want to thank all the good people at Burgess Moving & Storage. Thank you to Rachel, and Patice who handled all the scheduling details and were our first contact with what services the company would provide, and other details such as how things would be wrapped, packed and what to expect on the back end - when our stuff was delivered to our new home. Not only was everything packed with care, it was done quickly and with virtually no damage whatsoever. That is a service I've never gotten from any other moving company. We took their advice on laying out the new apartment and are still happy to this day with that choice! My wife, son and I just moved from Moreno Valley, CA to Surprise, AZ. Not really knowing who to use we chose Burgess Moving And Storage since they sent us a post card probably because our house was selling. I was very impressed from the beginning. Petice came out to the house and went through every room to inventory and direct us how to pack certain items. She was very thorough., and prepared a quote for us. We then had Eloi and Jesus show up on moving day with an 18 wheeler and those guys amazed me how everything was handled. From inventory, to packing the truck and disassembling the furniture. After all day of doing this on a Thursday, Eloi said he could have everything out to us on Saturday morning. They showed up and unloaded, reassembled what needed it and moved stuff around a few times to exactly where my wife wanted it. They placed the boxes in each room that were marked on them where to go. They spent a good part of the day doing all this, making sure everything was perfect. Eloi was great, very knowledgeable and a super nice guy. Jesus was like a work horse just cranking away, also a very nice guy. I never expected this type of experience. As everyone knows, moving sucks, but these guys knew how to ease the pain. My move went pretty smooth. My complaint is the follow-up with a few issues that happened after the move. Operations Manager never called back after repeated attempts to resolve a broken water faucet to the washing machine connection and scratches on my refrigerator which were noted on the paperwork. I've left written, voice mail and email to the website with no reply. That is no way to treat a paying customer...Obviously your move isn't too important when they are done with the move. We moved from Indio to Prescott utilizing the services of Burgess Moving and Storage/North American Van Lines, Our move was a two stage process. Our furniture was stored in Palm Springs before moving to its final destination in Prescott. After the truck was loaded in Indio the driver presented us with 7 documents including "Household Inventory", "Customer declaration of value" and "North American Van Lines bill of Lading & Freight Bill". Effectively you are agreeing to the inventory and its condition. The "Customer declaration of value" is much different. In the flurry of last minute with the truck running we initialed and signed as requested. Unfortunately, this was a mistake. We initialed next to the prefilled Option 2. We now know Option 2 waived full replacement value for damaged or lost items. This means the movers settlement based on weight multiplied by 60 cents. The weight is not actual but determined by the Military Weight Guide. Now fast forward to our move. Our Ethan Allen dining room table and chairs arrived without the table legs!! Because of Option Two agreement, North American Van Lines will settle for $66.00! The table is not a table any longer and is not functional and will most likely be destroyed. North American Van Lines do not differentiate quality....it is a weight as published in the Military Weight Guide regardless if the item was Ethan Allen or Big Lots and has nothing to do with the actual weight of the item. Another example was a patio chair was broken. It is teak and made by Brown Jordan, North American Van Lines are settling for $24.00. Those examples are two of 14 total claims. North American Van Lines hold to the Military Weight Guide. The company lost the legs of our dining table and destroyed a teak patio chair and offer $90.00 compensation. I do not recommend North American Van Lines or Burgess Relocation. Beware of accepting their estimate. Reach an agreement of your coverage before the truck arrives and is loaded. Better still find another mover. There are many to choose from. read more

Is a worry-free move possible? With Burgess on your side, it is! When planning our move from Riverside to Pasadena, I wanted someone local, not just some franchisee of a national chain. I knew about Burgess--they are the people who move for the University of California at Riverside. They had moved offices for my husband and me and we had been impressed with their professionalism. But we solicited estimates from three other locals before making our decision. What sold us was the professional way that they handled the estimate. Of course, price was a factor, but Burgess was neither the highest nor the lowest. The low estimates worried us--when it came to moving we feared we would get what we paid for. The Burgess estimate seemed thoughtful, thorough, and realistic. In the end, we paid a bit under the estimate as we moved some of our things ourselves--so they were pretty accurate. They also set a realistic timetable which they beat by a couple of hours. During the initial meeting, the Burgess rep mentioned that many of their crew had been in their employ for many years--one driver for 18 years! That spoke well of the company--and indeed, subsequent interactions with the office staff and then with the packers and movers themselves impressed us with their professional and courteous service. They know moving is stressful and go out of their way to be kind! Burgess will sell you new boxes at half the price of retail outlets for your pre-move packing. They also offer recycled boxes (I am not sure if they charge for them) but those boxes are subject to availability and they didn't have any when we moved. The Burgess men packed us in one day and moved us the next. It was all smooth with no surprises, no breakages. The gentlemen who got us out of Riverside and set up our house were just that--gentlemen! In a move to a new house, you have a lot to worry about. What was amazing to me was that in the weeks leading up the Big Day, I found myself not worrying at all about the actual move.
