We have been frequenting this place since long before Covid, but have never reviewed for some reason. We must like it, we even bought their cookbook to try some of the recipes, especially the Fondumental, which dragged us back there again and again. It wasn't nearly as plentiful or as yummy as we remembered it, but it's still good. The sandwiches and soups have always been rib sticking and tasty. The ambiance has remained the same over the years, a little dark, but the fireplace and the vintage posters are cool. Our server Gary was excellent, Johnny on the spot with all that we were looking for. Their wine and beer is all local, which is a thing these days. My lobster bisque with the FAB salad hit the spot, and the bread piece was exceptional. The lovely K had the onion soup which she liked although said it could use a little more salt. If you want to enjoy a hearty meal on the North Shore down by the water, but not on the water, give it a try, you will not be disappointed! read more

Inflation does not exist in one of the few places of the world here at Burgoo. The food is top quality with great ingredients at a price that cannot be beat anywhere else. Make sure you try the lobster bisque as it's one of the meatiest I've had to date; full of that shellfish flavour. The French onion soup is an eye catcher but the broth could use a bit more richness and flavour. Beef bourignon was suggested and I'm glad I took the friendly waitress' recommendation as it was a warm hug on a deep plate. I'd opt to swap for roasted potatoes instead of the mash but the mash does soak up all that delicious stew. The jambalaya is full of different proteins and if you're a fan of that, then I'd make sure to eat this perfectly cooked rice dish. I finished off with a banana bread pudding which was exactly that, banana bread in that bread pudding form; Personally I was hoping for bread pudding that was banana flavoured but it was still ooey gooey goodness. Burgoo is an excellent spot when you're craving comfort food. On a cold day, I stopped by for a corn and chicken soup, side salad, and Mac and cheese. I could tell the Mac and cheese was fresh out of the oven and the salad contained fresh ingredients. The soup was creamy and perfect for such a cold day. Solid spot, if not spectacular There are a lot of options in the Lonsdale Quay market. I went here for lunch with a guest. I had the Cubano sandwich and FAB salad for $22. Pricey for what it was. The sandwich was fine, but not grilled or served panini press style - so pretty basic. My guest has the corn chowder soup with salad for about $16. Our server was attentive and friendly. She was working a lot of tables and did a good job. Burgoo is a nice place to one every once in a long while. The food value is probably a three star, the service was good though. I have heard a lot of hype about Burgoo recently, particularly when it came to their mac 'n' cheese. This seemed like the perfect place to go for dinner after a night of skating at the nearby Shipyards Skating Plaza. While I did enjoy their mac 'n' cheese, it was not the best I've ever had. I appreciated the portion size and the amount of cheesy goodness found within; however the dish struck me as one-note. There was no other texture to counterbalance the gooey white cheese (and the choice of cheese added to the one-note feel). I had a few spoonfuls of my friend's butternut squash soup, and that tasted good. Their other comfort food dishes sound nice too, so I'm willing to go back again and try some of those. read more

I don't get it. I've heard several people mentioned Burgoo over the years, so when walking past in search of a lunch spot, I thought to myself, why not? Two rum apple ciders, a chicken pot pie and Ratatouille Provencale later and I'm not impressed. I wanted to know what the fuss was about and felt like I didn't get it. The portions were good, but nothing was out of this world that I'd order again. The Ratatouille was filled with vegetables in sauce, the chicken pot pie was covered with a nice flaky crust. The bill came to about $70. Sure service was great! Our server, Desiree was super friendly with the check-ins and recommendations. And the atmosphere was like eating in a family cabin. Came here on a stormy weekday night at the end of a day trip to BC. Although the street was windswept and barren outside, walking inside was what I imagine Harry, Ron, and Hermoine felt as they stepped inside the Three Broomsticks. Burgoo was bustling with activity, from the bartenders to the friendly waitstaff to regulars watching television to groups of sweatered people having lively conversations around their tables. There is no cozier feeling than to walk into a place like this on a cold night. Then there's the food. A special standout was the F.A.B. salad: Feta, apple, bacon, pickled red onion, bacon thyme vinaigrette. It was so good that I kept coming back to it, even though we had other plates. The mushroom soup was fresh and tasty but lacked a bit of salt. I believe my husband had the El Cubano, which was well executed with perfectly toasted bread. Everything tasted like elevated bistro, even though the menu consists of down home comfort food. Next time we come, we'll definitely sit inside and enjoy the vibe. Several weeks ago, I made a rare appearance at the office and couldn't help but order Burgoo for lunch. I ordered the 'After School Special', in which I chose the Dos Diablos and the Crab Bisque. This is my go-to meal! The sandwich itself was so huge, I never even end up finishing half of one piece. But it works out because fiance now has a dinner! In this lunch, I only had a few bites of the sandwich and finished the soup. Burgoo is so delicious! I've have been to Burgoo on several occasions and it never disappoints. In the history of "we picked the right place to eat," I don't think it gets much better than this. A chilly November day, right on the water in North Vancouver. That autumn leaves now several weeks into their downward migration, and hardly a peek of sunshine all day long. Tired souls, just gearing up for more work ahead--the fun kind but work--and a stop to Burgoo for some pick-me-up comfort. For almost everyone at the table, it seemed to be a soup and sandwich kind of day. For me, the Cubano, but you can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches. Hemming and hawing, I ended up with the Yummy Carrot soup, which is yummy, and packed with carrot. Again the French onion, bisque, or any of the other options would surely do the same trick. Fire in my belly. Speaking of fire, they do have cocktails. It's a legit bar and I'm told they do a nice job. A far cry from the rowdy beer spot nearby, or the party on the water vibe, this is a drink and a dish crafted for you, as if a friend came over to play hooky from work one day and you made grilled cheese. Vancouver had me feeling all kinds of cozy longing feelings, and this is a good example of why. Rainy outside? Stay inside together and only get out of bed long enough to put the bread in the oven, and rock-paper-scissors to see who has to get out of bed to remove the warm, golden bread when it's done. read more

This place has the most amazing soup. I mean it. It was a cold day and I wanted a warm, cozy meal and this was the perfect spot. The service was also amazing. Our waitress said she was new and she was so nice, attentive and quick. My soup came with a side of delicious bread. I will say if you are wanting a large quantity of food this is not the place to go. The bowl of soup was medium sized which was okay for me but if I was really hungry, it would not have filled me up. Where do I start? Comfort food at its best!! Lovely ambience. We sat by the fire and it was so nice and cozy. The menu is great, I thought it had so many great options to choose from whether you are a vegetarian or a meat eater! I felt like a soup and sandwich and it completely hit the spot. We ordered the soup and sandwich combo and I chose the crab bisque and the dos diablo sandwich, mac & cheese (full size), and another soup and sandwich combo with the french onion soup (+ a few dollars more). I was a big fan of the dos diablos sandwich - it's like a spicy grilled cheese with chorizo. I would say the portion size is big enough to share with 2 people. The crab bisque doesn't have a strong crab flavour, more of a pepper/tomato flavour so it went well with the cheesy sandwich. We ordered takeout. Their Tandoori Chicken Wings were much more spicy than the ones at Indian restaurants. The red powder from the chicken remained on my teeth even after I brushed my teeth, and the yogurt dressing that came with it was diluted with water and it was warm. That was gross. The Mac n Cheese still had onions inside when we told them that we did not want onions. It had so much bread crumbs on the top while only bits of the bacon, pulled pork, and tomato inside as we paid those as add-ons. The Chocolate Mousse looked like the mud in a plant pot; it did not look tempting at all and the texture was defrosted cream instead of mousse. The Sour Cherry Cheesecake with Crumble was not a cheesecake; it was just cheese on top of the sour cherries which were mushy and watery. They just sprinkled the top with sugar and graham biscuit bits with a couple of pieces of crumbs; it was overly sweet and definitely not a crumble. Their Biscuits were burned on the top and the bottom with a little pizza taste which was odd. They either did not know how to make the food properly (the food was not what it was supposed to be according to the title) or their quality was surprisingly disappointing. read more

September 2019 review: Got the Mac and cheese mainly because none of the soup/sandwich options were really standing out for me. I will say that I do remember them having a larger menu and I'm pretty sure they took away the countries that each menu item was inspired by. Nonetheless, I've been wanting to try the M&C, so this was the perfect opportunity. I will say at first glance it does seem like a small portion, but once you keep eating, you find that it's not. I even had some left over to take home! It was the perfect blend of creamy and cheesy. Would totally get again I have been here twice before and I have loved it each time. I cannot get anything other than the After School Special ($18). This time around I got the chicken and corn soup and the grilled cheese. I kept alternating between taking a bite of the sandwich and a bit of the soup. I loved both of them and I would highly recommend this place. Service was solid too! Came here for fondue and was disappointed. It arrived on our table with our a candle to keep the cheese hot. It was luke warm and we were in a hurry to eat it cause the cheese was getting cold. Ceviche was not my cup of tea at all. I wished they mentioned on the menu that the main ingredients was cumin. We ordered grilled cheese sandwiches and soups all around. Mushroom soup was 4/5 Tomato soup was 4/5 French onion 5/5 Crab soup 5/5 Mac and cheese 5/5 Cesar salad 5/5 We also had a few drinks, the server wasn't the best but we were informed that he was training and new. Most cases when customers are ordering the waiter doesn't usually stop them from ordering. He was making us doubt ourselves with ordering to much which is weird because more servers would be happy we would be ordering more. We asked him if we can get a drink made and he said if it's not on the menu then we don't have it, as oppose to seeing if the bartender could make it or not. Came here for a late lunch around 3:00 PM with a friend. There was one other table occupied when we arrived so it was very quiet. We were seated quickly and the hostess attended to us shortly after. We started off with a ceviche ($9) and I ordered a ginger beer ($3.25). The ginger beer was very refreshing and really quenched my thirst. I thought the ceviche was a little too pricey for its portion. We had a small bag of tortilla chips and not enough snapper for them. But I must say, it was light and fresh. For the entree, I ordered the shrimp baguette with kale caesar salad ($16). The kale caesar salad was very delicious. It had just the right amount of cheese and dressing. I enjoyed the shrimp salad filling and it worked perfectly with the greens, making it very refreshing and flavourful. However, the baguette itself was just too hard for me to chew. Service was good overall as the server came by on several occasions to check up on us. We did ask for water but never came until we reminded the server about it. It probably just slipped her mind but again there were only two table that the server was looking after. One thing that ruined my experience was the amount of flies in the restaurant. I had to swat them away as I ate, and there were plenty more flying around in the open area next to our table. read more

In the fall and winter, I could probably eat at Burgoo every day and not get sick of the food. If that happened, I would likely require a CrossFit membership or a hardcore personal trainer to avoid gaining 50 lbs. Such delicious comfort food though! Worth it. Though lunch is so good, I'd recommend Burgoo for dinner. Or if you're on vacation and can take a short nap afterwards, lunch is fine. Bisque and a grilled cheese makes me happy. The sandwich had at least three gooey varieties within. And the soup was creamy, with crab bits within. Just enough food to fill up a cold belly but not so much that I couldn't keep my eyes open the rest of the day. They really do make homemade food here. The food they make will come for your belly and the care they take will comfort your soul. I tried the nachos and I was delightfully surprised. Although the portion size isn't too big for a shareable item, the flavor jumped out of my mouth. My wife also try the Yummy Carrot Soup. It made you feel like you were at your moms house eating homemade goodness in the winter time. The soup was made with yams and cardiman and ginger and is a staff favorite here. We were meeting Heathers uncle and his partner for dinner on a cold, rainy Sunday night in Vancouver... while we were hoping for seafood they decided comfort food was in order given the conditions. Burgoo Bistro is apparently a small chain in the Vancouver area. It was warm and cozy with a couple of great local beers (we had the "Burgoo Brew") on tap to start the evening. We started with the "Fonduemental" and mixed olives... both were excellent. I decided that if I was going to eat at a spot called Burgoo that I had to go with a stew for dinner, so the Kentucky Burgoo got the nod. I hated stew as a kid, which doesn't even make sense now as my mom makes delicious homemade stew. It wasn't until my teens when I started liking that awful canned stew that I changed my mind. From there my tastes broadened and I am a huge fan now. And this was as good as it gets. Lamb, beef, smoked ham, lima beans, corn, molasses, tomato and okra. It was hearty, filling, and delicious. I highly recommend this dish. Heather opted for the macaroni and cheese, which she also enjoyed but found very filling and couldn't finish half of. Very large portion. We finished the evening with the four of us sharing a delicious Sticky Toffee Pudding and a round of hot, boozy coffee drinks. It was a wonderful, cozy night. A very nice spot indeed! read more

3/22/15. Lunch We stumbled upon this place after spending the morning up at Grouse Mountain. Arriving at Lonsdale Quay, the rain was coming down pretty steady. We wanted a place with table service and luckily found Burgoo. The name is taken after some Kentucky meat stew containing lamb, beef and ham. Burgoo features a very extensive, eclectic international menu. It's the perfect comfort food place. *Light Delight ($14) a combo of any salad and a soup. The Caesar has a choice of grilled or garlic chicken. Garlic chicken is somewhat crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned and rubbed with garlic. Minestrone is hearty and piping hot. *Sandwich + Soup ($16) is exactly what I was craving as I stared down the salmon banh mi and the borscht on the menu. Sockeye salmon is slightly grilled, topped with picked carrots and radish over a tasty baguette. Interesting twist of Vietnamese sammy. Borscht is hearty but meatless with chopped beets, cabbage and rubataga. Perfect comfort food on s cold, rainy day! *Drinks were amazing. The Moscow Mule has a nice fizzly touch and a tad stronger than we are normally used to. Hey it's holiday!
