A few minutes later I saw him hiding and watching me. When he realized if seen him he came over AGAIN to "assist" me then walked me to the register and after payment he accused me of shoplifting. We have shopped here for years since moving to Burien. Yesterday, I rented a carpet cleaning machine with the upholstery attachment. When I attempted to use, back metal attachment was stripped so was not functional. I returned unit to store this morning with request for refund and was told that since it had been used, there would be no refund. The cashier Van was not helpful and the store manager, Shannon was rude. He took off the bucket to show it had been used and did not want to listen to what I was trying to explain. I asked Van for someone else in corporate I could talk to and was told they did not know the name. We will be taking our business elsewhere. In this day and age customer service is very important and since I have a choice of where to spend my hard earned money, it will not be here. I try to do business locally but this business will be out of my rotation. read more

In a world where customer service has become virtually non-existent, I had an AMAZING experience at this location yesterday. An employee named Shannon went above and beyond all expectations to help me. My issue was a small one - finding the right screws - but what was needed wasn't a standard item. This wonderful human made my problem HIS problem and didn't stop until he solved it. And then he went even FURTHER above and beyond by installing the hardware for me!! One of his coworkers got involved at one point and when I thanked them for all their efforts, he said "when you bring us a riddle, we want to solve it." Happened to purchase something on line and had to pick it up at this location. When I went in the employees were attentive and friendly. I ended up looking around and purchasing a few other items which they were helpful in recommending products they had personal experience with. Shopped here for years, but definitely noticed in 2023 that the quality and competence of the employees they have on staff has significant declined... and now that it has advanced into actual malicious behavior towards customers -- I can now longer recommend ACE Burien as the "helpful place" for your hardware needs. I highly recommend you spend your hard earned money elsewhere (especially on overpriced items in attempt to support local businesses). I have noticed the checkout clerks are mostly incompetent when their job involves anything more than asking for your phone number, scanning items and charging a credit card. They cannot look up ACE account by ID number, they balk and complain if you don't simply tell Everyone in Hearing distance your phone number, they do not know how to use coupons, and they cannot handle cash transactions. The general staff used to meet me with a smile in the aisles and ask if they can help, provide guidance, welcome me as I entered, and generally were quality and competent people. It seems they laid off staff for cheaper "talent" but are failing customers and the ACE brand which I use to know as the friendly and helpful neighborhood hardware store growing up 40 years ago. read more

I am so done dealing with the oompaloompas that staff that store. Ask to check my receipt on my rewards told to call corporate. Go to Normandy Park they look and and have the receipt in 1 minute. Call to ask about items at Normandy they make an effort and use their brains to check aisles and look up status. Burien they guess, dump the call halfway through to someone else and then hang up. Go to Normandy Park if you want accurate info and non lazy intelligent assistance. And I agree with other reviewer they are aiming low. They don't care if they let you down and between them they condone sarcastic responses to valid compliants. When the help openly mocks customers in front of the desk...there is no "committment" happening there. Just poorly trained low expectations disgruntled help that take their mediocre experience THEY are generating from customers and blaming the everyone else. read more

This is my second home! Everyone is sooo friend and having this place ten mins from my new condo has been perfect! The staff has come and gone since covid (so I think), but everyone's is great! I also get ace hardware product unless a blogger says USE this brand! The prices are always good and I get a 5.00 coupon each time and it works great! Someone told me I could use any of them any time, NOPE they didn't take it one transaction! They have Benjamin Moore which is dope! I used Valspar for my cabinets in my bathroom, but used BM for my kitchen cabinets and was soo happy! Almost done with projects in my house and need to go to the bigger places soon. read more

This place used to be fantastic!! All of the employees were amazing and it was always the same smiling faces when you walked in and they were all so willing to help! Now the employees are downright horrible. The amount of money I have spent here over the last 13 years is incredible, and I always came here to support the local business because of their employees. A single star because there isn't a Lowes or HD in Burien... but there are ones pretty close :/ It is crazy that this store can even continue to pay rent on the space. We live close by and have sworn this awful excuse for a business off today after 40-50+ frustrating visits. 95% of visits are followed by a trip to a different hardware store EVEN AFTER YOU CALL FIRST TO CONFIRM AVAILABILITY! They are not only not knowledgeable but they are rude AF to boot. There is nothing in this store worth the frustration when you can just go ahead and drive to Home Depot in the first place... trust me, you are going to end up there anyway; save yourself the madding, worthless drive here first. read more

Changes 5 star to 1 after reusing a return 1 to 4 after phone call and refund 4 to 5 after sending me a nice card and $50 I do encourage support for more local businesses that keep travel to big box stores to a minimum. I'm so grateful for their staff to accept my return when I accidentally paid for more screws and dry wall anchors than I used. They trusted my word. I would look again for Ace for other hardware in the future. I would also recommend over other hardware stores with this customer service and being able to just buy smaller parts and not a large set. read more

I returned a product and the amount I paid was not refunded to my bank. When I called the Burien store to find out why, I was told that they couldn't help me to call corporate customer service which I did. The customer service department informed me that they couldn't do anything because each store is independently owned. Bottom line I'm out almost $20.00. I've given them a lot of my business because they are within walking distance of my home and I like to shop localIy. I believe I will be looking for another hardware store. read more

I bought a grill online with a promo that the store would assemble and deliver. I worked with Brandon in Burien who was a great help. This particular Ace doesn't deliver and I was having some difficulty securing a truck so Brandon actually said he could deliver on his own time with his personal vehicle! I ended up being able to fit it in my car - a little tricky but he helped play some car Tetris - but the offer was sooooo appreciated! I also went into the store to buy some propane and the cashier was super awesome. Excellent customer service. It really couldn't have been better. Thank you! read more

I was buying PVC piping from this store and noticed that they had a 5ft length of pipe ready to be sold so I added this to my order. After purchasing I realized that they decided to add a large cutting fee for that piece even though I never asked them to cut anything for me. They will find any way they can to sneak additional charges onto your order. Do not go there. Their prices for different plumbing equipment is vastly larger than competing stores read more

I totally forgot about this hardware store in burien since it is kinda tucked away a bit in the shopping plaza on 4th ave SW. Anyway, I saw the little flowers they displayed for $0.99 each, and I know I had to buy 2 of them. The store is slightly smaller than most ace hardware stores, but they are able to have most of the stuff that you will need for your home. There is a young female sales associate, and she isn't a very energetic one either. I asked her where I could find the watering pots, and she looked at me and said, "Hmmmm.... If we do have some, you might be able to find them on aisle 9..." I mean, "Come on! "If" we do have watering pots ??? This is a home improvement store, so I would expect to see some watering pots. And you sound like you are unsure.... That isn't a very good sign." By the way, the watering pots weren't even in aisle 9. They are in aisle 8 at the very top shelf. If you are a short person like me, please have someone else grabbing the pots for you. Anyway, that sales associate looked and sounded super spacey as we tried talking to her about the flowers' prices and watering pots. In the end, I won't let this little odd encounter affecting my future trips to ace hardware store because I don't want to drive all the way to tukwila, west seattle, or Des Moines for some stuff that I can easily find in burien. read more

Found several things at Burien Ace Hardware I couldn't find anywhere else, at least not listed online: microwave lightbulbs that light up the stove below [essential for cooking], plant markers [thick ones that can be used year after year] and my favorite dark red 'Calliope' geraniums [which I first found in north Seattle. I thought I was going to have to make a long trip to get them, but they're just a few miles from home]. The staff is friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. My rating as of this date 5-13-20, is more 2 1/2. It's a good location, well-stocked, neatly kept & I as far as I know the help are knowledgeable. I've been here less than six times, so a bit 'iffy' on getting help. What struck me was the number of people entering with no regard to proximity or the heath & safely of other shoppers...and the cashier wore no protective gear, i.e. mask. Many stores limit the number of shoppers, or have notices regarding this issue. Many people don't care, won't wear a mask & often feel it's not their problem if i get sick because of some 'flu'. As for me, I most likely won't be a frequent shopper here because of this experience. It's the loss of revenue and my good will toward Ace. Is this why so many business close as shoppers use online purchases? read more

I am a do it yourselfer so I don't usually need help as I know what I am looking for but they offer help and if they don't have it they tell you where to try and find it. I went to the Ace Hardware in Burien because my car key fob stopped working and I needed a new battery. Ace West Seattle has taken care of me before with my car key and always provides an exceptional level of customer service. I thought the Ace Hardware in Burien would be the same but boy was I wrong. Upon arrival I asked for help replacing the battery in my key fob and the cashier and the person at the key station both said they couldn't help and I needed to YouTube it. I said when I go to West Seattle Ace they help me and they said I don't know what to tell you, you need to YouTube it we can't help. So I ended up figuring it out myself (yay me)! Without any help from the 3 people at Ace Burien that I encountered. Needless to say I will never return to Ace Burien and if I need a hardware store in Burien will go elsewhere. I will continue going to Ace West Seattle. read more

Ran in for an exacto knife and one of the employees was busy stocking and I asked her if she could tell me where they are...she stopped what she was doing and walked me to 2 places in the store that had Xacto-type knives so I was able to pick one that better suited my project. I think this is a great store for what I need. That is specifically a home improvement store that's just down the street. Its more expensive, but it's right there. Has most common items you will need for most projects, nothing too specific, nothing too garden heavy, like dirt, or pavers, whatever. Has poisons, bolts, nuts, pipes, its loaded. The employees are hit and miss. Sometimes they will know more about something than you think is normal for any specialist, other times they will not know what anything is or where it might be located. Go in knowing what you want, hope its there, be happy when it is, not too disappointed when its not. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE, UNBELIEVABLY UNPROFESSIONAL. DISGUSTED. I purchased a part that ended up not being necessary. Although the part was only $45, it was unopened in the original box and I had the receipt. After waiting nearly 20 minutes to return the item (the long wait was expected as it is always takes forever), I was greeted by an employee with a balloon in her mouth, blowing it up and letting it out over and over explaining she was "soooo bored". The new in box return was purchased 33 days prior. The bored balloon blower refused to return the item as it was past the "30 day" window. I was told to wait so that she could get a manager. 10 minutes later a manager returned. He wanted a reason for the return. I explained we purchased it as a plan B option because they did not have the part needed. He opened the item and inspected every inch of it, confirmed it was untouched, placed it back in the box and replied "ummmm sorry you cannot return this". The explanation given was they had a 30 day return policy. Although annoyed at the fact it was 3 days post the "policy", i understand 3 days past the 30 allowed. THREE DAYS AND YOU ARE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO ASSIST. I did not care about a cash refund, and in-store credit was perfectly fine. This option was also refused and the transaction was completed with him walking away, looking over his shoulder and saying "soooorry it is the policy". Dear Burien Ace Hardware, you are welcome for the BRAND NEW part I left for you. It was not worth another second of my time. A part that you placed back on the self to be resold and the $45 you made off of a now ex-customer. This was by far the WORST hardware store service I have EVER received (it put Lowes and Home Depot to shame, which until yesterday, I thought was IMPOSSIBLE). I will not EVER step foot in your store again. I will not recommend your business to anyone ever again. You should be mortified by the WORST representation your employees are providing on your behalf as well as their behavior while helping a store full of customers. read more

He helped me locate and even took the time to put together for me since I have no tools at home! Hooray! I was absolutely stoked to see that burien would finally have a nearby hardware store that I could easily bus, bicycle, or walk to. Time and time again the employees are very helpful and have little difficulty showing you where stuff is in a friendly manner. Whenever I have quirky MacGyver projects and ace hardware lacks certain bits I need, employees are right on the spot as to devise work arounds, even going as far as to rip products out of their packaging to ensure compatibility. My only problem with this store is that theres too many cases in which they don't have a particular set of items im looking for, specialty items if you will, and other times just lack of selection. I needed a type of bearing, and out of the entire store, there was one box with a select few types of bearings. Another instance, my dad needed a set of "sidewalk" bolts as he called them, and there wasn't enough selection. All in all, its a nice hardware store for the basics, but for the advanced stuff, you'll have to go to their competitors places. read more

This is a review of both Dunn Hardware and Ace Hardware in Burien. 13 years of living in Burien and I have never really had great experiences at Dunn. The team all Park themselves at the front counters staring at their computers and never seem to want to help the local guy solve a problem. Today was typical- I needed a screw to fit into an old electric box in my bathroom to mount a new light above my mirror. The screws that came with the light were just slightly too wide. I took a photo, thinking perhaps the standard of boxes was different in the 50's. I went into Dunn and the cashier basically pointed me at the screws. So I walked over to the 5 staff standing behind their computers (perhaps solving today's climate problems?) and showed them the screw that was too large and the photo and asked if anyone knew what the standard was or had any ideas on how I could figure out the proper screw. One guy laughed and said "oh there was no standard in the 50's, just go buy a bunch of screws and try them all". Didn't even offer to show me where the screws were other than pointing in the general direction. I went over there and holy cow, what a selection. Never mind. So I gave up on these unhelpful non-caring employees, and went over to Ace on 153rd. The assistant manager, a young friendly red headed guy asked how he could help as soon as I walked in. I showed him my challenge and he said "oh well there are pretty much only two sizes of screws that fit in these boxes- so if it's not the one you have, it's the smaller of the two. He walked me over to the screw "sizer", sized the wrong screw and said "yup I was right, it's the smaller one". He reached in a bin and handed me two screws that were slightly smaller than the one I brought in. Cost 12 cents each. Went home and they fit perfectly. Ace has always been awesome and helpful and friendly. Dunn, I'm guessing whatever they do on their computers is more important than helping customers try to solve issues. Even though Dunn is closer, I'll never go back and will always go to Ace first. read more

My 'Fiskar's' pole pruner needed a new cord; so, I headed to Ace Hardware in Burien. I was not confident that I could do the knot the right way so I asked if there was an employee that might be able to re-wrap the cord for me. It was a busy Saturday, but I was told if I could leave the pruner there, they would see if someone could help me out. I came back Monday and it was done. Ace Hardware in Burien is my go-to place for all the usual tools and whatnot, like screwdrivers and hammers and masking tape. It's also a great source for paint, because unlike the big box stores (I'm looking at you, Lowe's and Home Depot), the staff knows about the paint and gives good advice. read more
