So, here it is May 15, 2026 and no calls, emails, or texts from Burkett's despite the owner claiming that an email was sent to me on 4/14/26 (they have my phone--is nobody able to call--why is this soooo difficult?). I checked all my email folders, all of my texts, and all of my junk/spam folders, yet i still haven't received a call from ANYBODY at Burkett's, let alone the president, despite my invitation to call me and have me show him the problems created by Burkett's/their contractors. I have used Burketts for many years. After repairing an overlay with a cracked cement underneath several times...I gave up. I am not going to say how I really feel about this particular job....because I have years of wonderful luck with them. They are a good company but my last experience was awful. I'm so glad that we chose Burkett's Pool Plastering to bring our 1970's pool back to life!! Initially we contacted a couple pool companies for estimates which were all similar in price. What made Burketts stand out from the others was that all the work including the concrete was done in house. We liked the fact we were not having to deal with multiple companies for different stages of the pool remodel. Burketts estimate was thorough and easy to read. Another thing that stood out was Burketts planned to re plumb the entire pool, the other estimates we received wanted to re use the existing plumbing that had been there since the late 70's. Marlon our sales rep was very friendly and took the time to explain our tile, plaster and lighting options. He also suggested adding a Cabo shelf at the shallow end of our pool, which we ended up doing. Marlon gave us great suggestions to help us narrow down our tile and plaster selections. Once we finished selecting our tile, plaster color/finish and concrete finish Marlon sent over the contract for signatures and explained our next steps. The contract was straight forward and easy to read. It laid out all terms, warranties etc. Once the contract was signed Marlon stated we would be contacted within a couple of weeks with a start date and work/payment schedule. Burkett's contacted us within two weeks and we were given a start date, payment schedule and startup instructions for when the pool is ready to be filled again. In addition we were introduced to Kat who was handling our scheduling and Marshall our project manager. Kat was awesome and kept us informed every step of the way! Kat called the day before any crew would come out to let us know what time they would be there and who was coming out. The payment schedule she provided was easy to follow. Marshall was amazing as well! Marshall was onsite during major phases of work and for inspections. Marshall took the time to answer all our questions and kept us updated. We added some concrete and drainage during the project. Marshall was flexible and added the items. We were provided a change order that broke down the additional cost for the added items. Marshall went out of his way while the concrete was being poured, he made a paver for us so we could get our dog's paw prints which is something my wife really wanted. Once the project was complete Marshall came to make sure everything was done and that we were happy with the work. Burkett's sent a different crew out for each phase of the project. All of the crews arrived timely and were friendly. Every crew was respectful of my house and our neighbors. Every crew used tarps and other protective mats to prevent stains or damage to driveways and walkways. Every crew cleaned up after themselves and there was never a mess left behind. We were amazed the demolition crew didn't damage any of our planters that surrounded the pool. We were impressed with the quality of work from each crew. You could tell they had been working together for a while as everyone knew their roles and worked efficiently. Once the Plaster which was the last step was finished we immediately filled our pool. Burketts did the first day of the startup and I was able to give their instructions for days 2-7 for my pool service to follow. Burkett's also sent a tech to help me connect my pool pump and lights to the WiFi and program them. One of the new lights was not working properly after the initial setup. I contracted Kat and Marshall to advise of the issue. They had someone out within the same week to replace the light. I was again impressed with the quick resolution of the issue. I highly recommend Burketts Pool Plastering. They were professional from start to finish. Our project took 2 months and our only delay was due to weather. WE LIVE IN GOLD RIVER, CA We hired Burkett's for a ~$30K pool remodel (replaster and tile) during a complete backyard remodel. They performed a pressure test and told us things passed. After we poured new concrete, we discovered a leak that required breaking into the new concrete. They charged us $950 to fix it, which we disputed given the circumstances. After their repair, no additional pressure test was done, and we found shortly after that there was still another leak. We again had to hire an independent leak detection company and pay for a second repair ourselves. There was a dispute over the $950 and was lien was threatened, though we later learned no lien had been recorded. The issue ultimately went through mediation and was resolved. Overall, this was a very frustrating and costly experience that required additional work, time and expense to us to correct. Based on our experience, we would STRONGLY recommend asking detailed questions about pressure testing, verification, and follow- up before moving forward and CAREFULLY consider other options. read more

Very disappointed! I hired Burkett's Pool Plastering, coordinated through Federico Rizo, to replaster my pool and spa. While the plaster initially looked fine, cracks appeared in the spa not long after, and several tiles started falling off. I contacted Federico numerous times, but he eventually stopped replying to my messages -- even though I kept records of all our communication. When I reached out to Burkett's, AJ Jimenez responded and acknowledged that the bonding agent used may have failed -- something he said typically falls under a one-year warranty. Despite that, he refused to take responsibility, claiming that since they no longer work in San Jose and Federico was my builder, the issue was not theirs to address. I find it unacceptable that a company can perform work, admit the materials may have failed, and still deny any accountability. If you're considering hiring Burkett's or working with Federico Rizo, I recommend getting all warranties in writing and clarifying who will be responsible if anything goes wrong. read more

We had Burketts come out and replace the solar for our pool, a $10k expense. They sent four workers out and they did the work in one day. In doing the work, they were not careful and damaged many of the shingles on the roof. We ate the damages. A year later, the drain valves began leaking, which they then tried to charge us for the repair, even though it was under warranty. After a heated conversation and reminding them it was under their written warranty, they did fix the valves without charge. Now, four years later, we have multiple leaks of the solar main lines. I called, and after being ignored by the area account manager, I called again and asked for a live person. After a few minutes the receptionist came back with a Docusign request for a charge of $450.00 just to come out. That's a non-starter. I started to do my own analysis of the leaks and I discovered that they used Schedule 40 piping instead of Schedule 80, and that the tubes are warping and bending, thereby causing the leaks. I will never call these people again and will warn everyone I know, to run the other way. I am very dissatisfied with them. EDIT after their response: I have done more research as well as inspected the entire piping system for our solar. While their response is true, that PVC is industry standard, black piping only needs to be used for HOA requirements. Black piping, actually degrades faster with heat and sun. The water in the solar PVC piping will not pick up any significant heat from the sun during operation as the water is moving so quickly and PVC is actually an insulator. Although if the water is stopped (solar water pump off) the heated water that remains in the system (in the return lines) can cause the black pipe to soften and then bow/bend and cause leaks. Either way, major 2-inch piping should NOT be twisting and shrinking after 4 years on our roof. In some places the piping is sagging, with bows in the long sections, pulling the joints out of place and causing more leaks. Interestingly enough, our previous solar piping lasted over 15 years without any issues until mechanical damage (tree limb) required its replacement. We have a pool service that maintains the pool and its equipment, cleaning filters twice a year, lubricating valves, chemicals, etc. I winterize the solar every year, using low pressure to blow out the lines and panels. I maintained equipment in the Marine Corps and know the value of taking care of your things so they work properly when you need them. I also have a problem with a company that does not have a service or technical representative talk to me, just a person telling me to docu-sign a paper that obligates me to pay $450.00 for them to send someone out. In doing my research, I found out the panels were roughly $80.00 apiece and all the fittings, piping, etc, could not be more than $1000 or even $2000 (worst case). Which means I paid $8000.00 for the panels, piping, installation, and for a warranty that was meaningless as it didn't encompass the work that they did. I am curious to see if I am the only one to have twisting and leaking pipes, which would indicate maybe I got a bad batch of pipe, but if others have the same issue(s), then maybe that is indicative of the work provided. read more

This feels diabolical. When we chose them to refinish our pool, they stated the entire project would be 3-4 weeks. We were excited with how quickly they came out to start the demo (cut them a $7k check), and with how quickly they came back to install the tile (had to write them ANOTHER $7k check), but then a few days goes by and we hear nothing. My husband reached out to the office to find out when they'd be out to complete the job, only to be told they're backed up 3-4 weeks. So, just to be crystal clear to everyone, they were happy to accept $14,000 of a $16,000 job, but they aren't available to come out for 3-4 weeks- the total amount of time they told us it would take start to finish for the job- and no one mentioned that when they came out to tile and took their second payment. We totally understand that delays happen- it's construction- but as the customer, having paid a majority of the total invoice for the job, I expect them to at least communicate with us. A simple "hey, we're super backed up and can't come to finish the second half of the job, but we're still going to require that you pay 87.5% of this contract total- even though we've only done 50% of the work- before we allow you to even schedule the second half of the remodel" (someone make it make sense) would have been appreciated. Definitely won't recommend them to anyone. As the consumer, it looks to me like they rush through the first two steps of the job- demo and tile- only to throw you on the backburner since they've already received a majority of their payment by that point. There is zero incentive for them to get out here and finish my pool since they'll make A LOT more by getting another sucker to start theirs. It's actually genius contract language on their part and they should give the lawyer that wrote it a raise! read more

We hired Burketts to do a pool refinish in 2020. We held off on doing the cement decking, coping and patio cement work at that time knowing that in the near future it will need to be done. I called Burketts on 11/5 to get a quote and they told me Mark (original sales person) is no longer with them. They told me that a sales person would call back to set up a time and gave his name. At this point it's now 11/11 and still have not received a call to set up a measure for a quote. I called on 11/11 and the person answering the phone transferred me to the same sales persons voicemail. I left name, number and what I needed and it's now 11/18 and still no call back. Excellent work and great communication with my rep Monica. Once the project started, they finished in a reasonable amount of time. Tear down took a full day, 2 weeks later, they came out and replaced the light, finished upgrading the plumbing, and did a power wash of the pool before tile, and coping started. A few days after the scrub down was completed, the tile guys showed up. I chose a tile/coping that isn't as common, so it took a little more time for them to receive from the supplier per Monica (my customer service rep). A week later, the guys showed up to do the pebble work, and a day after, they showed up to finalize things and started the fill process. A few days after that, they had someone come out and do the pool startup chemicals. And give me some additional advice on how to keep it maintained. Overall, the pool looks absolutely amazing, and the one problem I had they resolved quickly, and tbh was an oversight on my part. Darn GFI popped and caused the light to not work. Throughout the process, Monica would call me a few days in advance to confirm the crew would be coming out. I've got to give credit, where credit is due. Their team did an excellent job, and we are very happy with how it turned out and the time it took from start to finish. read more

Run don't walk away from Burkett's. It's been a total nightmare. Jeremy Spear ignores email and calls. The same goes for Marshall and Marlon. They are great at selling and while their price looked good in the beginning -- they left off needed equipment -- making them the highest price of all my bids. Also they sold me patchwork equipment that has failed. My polished pool surface is so rough it made my grandsons feet bloody. They gave me a re-polish date in January, canceled with a promise to reschedule and while I have left numerous voice messages and emails to Jeremy Spear -- It's May and still no response. I am beyond frustrated and mad at myself for choosing this company. This is my first negative review. I need a useable pool. I have three grandchildren on swim team and a son with his family visiting in a few weeks. It's an inexcusable nightmare! read more

Our pool is built into a hillside and it recently developed a couple of cracks in the side wall and near the pool equipment. Burkett's told us to first get a report from a leak detection service and they provided two referrals. This was very helpful as we would not have known to do that. After we sent over the report to Burkett's they set up a schedule to make the repairs. Once they began the work they performed it in a timely manner and kept us updated with the work as they proceeded. We opted to replace the tile and they did a perfect job with that and the rest of the repairs. They specialize in replastering and remodeling pools and we highly recommend them if you want a new look for your pool or if the plaster needs replacing. read more

Burkett's renovated my pool a couple years ago. While I experienced what many other reviewers did (slow to respond and schedule), I was pleased with the work and really like how the renovation turned out. 4 months ago I noticed my pool was leaking. I have tried repeatedly to reach out to Burkett's as their work was still under warranty. I wanted to first check to see if the pool leak could be attributed to their work and repaired. After 4 months of back and forth with little support other than a cursory look from a contractor, I paid to have a leak detection company find the leak. They identified an issue around one of the inlet valves. I provided the leak report to Burkett's and after a couple more weeks of no response have decided to cut my losses and pay someone to repair. I am disappointed that I couldn't get any timely attention or support to determine if this repair would be covered under warranty. It's unfortunate that I've simply decided to eat the cost of the repair as I need my pool to stop leaking. 4 months with no concrete support is frustrating. read more

They were friendly, but after we discussed my concerns, I felt promptly dismissed. I now suspect that maybe my job was too small for them to really care. the initial sales meeting was fine, every step after that was a nightmare and no matter how many times I called the main office, the company fought and argued with my concerns. 1. threw away pool equipment of mine without authorization (chlorine feeder, temperature device for measuring the water, etc); 2. boot marks in the plaster, it took three phone calls to even get Burkett to acknowledge the issue and they refused to fix the material prior to filling the pool; and 3. electrical work incomplete- pool light switch was never successfully installed, the light delays coming on, the light switch box was not reassembled properly, the electrician used by Burketts told me point blank that I did not have the correct electrical components and refused to get them or tell me what they were, when I insisted the employee made threatening remarks. read more

We hired Burkett's to gut and plaster and completley resurface our teeny tiny pool and built in hot tub. It asteticly looked nice and it better because they charged us 32,000 for a pool that they are now calling a spool because it is the size of a very large spa. Overpriced I feel ripped off because they also did my sister's pool also gutted it and replastered around the same time and chared her 25K and her pool is enormous she doesn't have a built in spa but her pool is litterally 6 times larger than mine!!! Within weeks of them finishing our pool it was dropping water like crazy! They sent scuba divers out to try to find a leak they thought it was the built in spa at first. But that didn't fix the problem so then they hired a guy outside of the company to drop a red dye in it to see where the dye was escaping to and then they replaced some of the jets and light in the pool are but that didn't fix the problem. Now we are a few years out and we have to fill out pool up for an entire hour every other day and it drops low the very next day! My husband called them and now they are trying to have us pay for an outside company to detect the leaks. The pool from the very start was not built back properly they charged us a huge amount of money for a teeny tiny pool that from the start is wasting thousands of gallons of water a year!!! Please do your research and go elsewhere. We will probably have to pay for an attorney to get them to actally make our pool work properly. read more

A couple years ago, somebody started our pool and walked off the job and did a terrible job anyway we called Burketts and they took over and did a phenomenal job! They practically had to replumb the whole pool and Did a phenomenal job and we have an amazing pool because of it also to this day anytime we have a problem with the pool they come out and repair it. You asked whether it was weather or change orders that was derailing and delaying our project, it is not. Yesterday morning your tile team showed up to finish the exterior of our spa. They had the wrong rock. My wife had to race out and tell them they had the wrong material. They then packed up and left leaving us with another sunny day with no work and no progress. When my wife told them they had the wrong material the reply from your team was, "This happens all of the time, communication with us is terrible." This is the second time and the second crew we've heard this from. I appreciated the candor of your field ops leader. He expressed concern about getting us scheduled in a timely manner for our final plastering. While the additional focus is welcome it does not compensate for what a disastrous experience we've had with Burkett's Pool Plastering. read more

I'm very glad I chose Burkett's Pool Plastering. My pool needed new plaster and tile. I received several quotes, but I really liked how well Burkett's and their staff communicated the process. Jason gave me a quote on what I had requested, and offered to quote on some replacement equipment, because my filter was originally undersized. There was absolutely no pressure, just information. When the bid came in, the whole job was within my planned budget. The thought of not having to clean my filter every two weeks compelled me to upgrade the equipment too. Their process has obviously been refined over many years of experience. It was well organized and efficient. They got me on the schedule and gave me a date. From then on, Melanie would let me know in advance what would happen the following week, and the staff stepped through each phase of the project. All the staff were friendly, very respectful, but mostly kept their heads down working hard. The job went very smooth and was on time as discussed. The work was also excellent. I am very happy with my old pool brought back to life. Thank you to all of the staff that contributed to the completion of my pool. I also want to add that I am very happy with the new equipment. Had to have the pool resurfaced and having had experience with Burkett's in the past about 11-12 years ago I decided to get a quote from them as well as about 5 other companies. They came in with a very fair price and even though we had to wait to get on the schedule because they were very busy it wasn't as long as a few other places. They had many finish options and originally I didn't think I could afford the pebble but turns out it wasn't too much more than regular plaster. After seeing and feeling it and now seeing our pool done there is no other option I would never consider plain plaster again! We have a beautiful finished pool now and it sparkles in the sun and feels great on your feet. The curing process was way easier with it and brushing etc was practically dustless right off the bat. Easier to get chemicals set up and all around a better product. The office staff was easy to work with as far as scheduling and payments. If your in the market for an upgrade and need resurfacing I would highly recommend. read more

I posted a complaint on Yelp earlier this year about Burkett's and the owner promptly contacted me and actively worked to resolve my issue. I was relieved for the resolution but not that happy about it because it "appeared" that I got an equipment downgrade from what I was initially told would be a "state-of-the-art automated system." Well, it failed and basically they came out and put the exact levers back in that I had prior to getting the "state of the art upgrade." My protestations didn't change anything but the pool works so we accepted it (with no courtesy extension of the warranty). We started noticing that the chemical levels weren't registering on the App and we've made several trips to Leslie's Pool store to have the water tested. So on September 17th, I called and left a message with the office and I didn't get a callback by the next day so I called in again and spoke to a really nice lady who said that she'd take down the information and get someone to call me about the issue ASAP. I still hadn't heard from anyone so, I contacted the owner who was very responsive during the first complaint. It's been two weeks and I have yet to hear from anyone!!! Burkett's is making us feel like we're only important until we've written the check. We feel very disappointed, neglected, and that their claims of customer support are all lies! I LOVE our refurbished pool! Looks brand new! Before, pool deck lifted in spots to expose soil at edge of pool, some pool tiles were broken, and we had no safety rail. Just look at it now! Only complaint is that project mgr. was out due to illness and we seemed to fall off the radar. These guys were absolute rock stars. They came out, quoted the job, made some additional recommendations then did exactly what they promised. The work was completed on time. The teams showed up on the days they were scheduled. All the work done was of the highest quality. We converted our pool from salt to UV, resurfaced with Pebble Tec, enlarged the spa, added a Baja step and an automated pool cover. They even showed me how to run everything so I never need another pool maintenance company. This large of a project required tons of back and forth between myself and the project manager. He was always responsive and the ladies in accounting were super helpful. read more

I recently hired Burkett's to re-plaster my pool. The estimator was knowledgeable and also arranged to install accent tiles around the steps and upgrade the drains to today's standards. Several crews worked together to complete the project on schedule and at a very reasonable price. I had my skimmer replaced because I had to get it puttied every year due to a leak. After a month or so I noticed my water refill kept running. Low and behold I have a leak with my new skimmer. Supposedly they did a permanent fix I was told. Only time will tell. Not having to get it sealed every year was the whole purpose. Also draining pool down to repair cost money. read more
