1 1/2 minute read: This Burlington Store is a pleasure to shop at: Great Staff, Great selection for LADIES, MEN, KIDS, BABY, HOME, COATS. Parking is not a problem. Go to BURLINGTON next time you need just about anything.

What has happened to Burlington? I don't mean this in a positive light! Before we had Burlington in Thousand Oaks, my long-ago first experiences with the chain was at the Ventura Store. Several decades ago it was a pleasure to walk into their store and find name brand items at good prices. I bought a glorious black wool coat with faux fur hood there over 20 years ago that I still wear, and still receive compliments on. I think I'd be hard pressed to find such a special item there now. As I recall, they had distinct departments with attractive merchandising features within each area. Their return policy then wasn't the best, but it still was a decent place to shop, often a few steps above Ross. While in the area yesterday, I popped in to look for some simple pants at a decent price. I was disappointed to see that everything is now on endless racks in long rows which aren't that easy to shop. There is almost no creative / inspiring merchandising any longer. (Reminded me of Nordstrom's Rack, a shopping experience I do not enjoy!) Despite this challenge, I did find several pairs of pants, some cozy slippers, a gift for Dear Hubby's birthday, some inexpensive holiday jewelry, and tried on some winter coats. Didn't buy a coat this time, but was encouraged by some of the options I found. I can report that several employees that I passed were out and about in different departments, cheerfully offering assistance. That would normally bring up the rating, and I do appreciate that customer service touch. The very poor merchandising negates that aspect of my experience, though. Dear Store Manager, please consider returning to a departmental merchandising approach with round racks and actual displays. I believe you'd move more goods if they were featured in an attractive manner. I did make purchases, but didn't feel uplifted by the shopping "experience" at the store. They do do have friendly staff, whose upbeat attitude is brought down by the way the store presents itself.

The women's coats section. Any other department store would have a bigger selection.

During my most recent getaway trip to Ventura, I made two visits.....the first visit, I found a woven straw fedora-trilby, the Circa 1921, to top off an olive-green Hawaiian shirt I purchased from a different store just a short time earlier. The second visit, I got a pecan-brown Scala Outback Hat. Both Amberlee and Jenny were such a great help; they are real assets to your store. Thank you, Amberlee, Jenny and the Wharf!!! When I entered, the young lady at the registered welcomed me. I couldn't find the bag I was looking for because I didn't know what the bag looked like since it's a different brand than I am used to. I asked a young man that was loading shelves and he called for someone to come help me. Another gentleman came and helped me within a minute. They did have quite a large Oxbow small animal pet products more than I have seen at Tractor Supply. So, even though I probably won't be back for these pellet bedding bags when TSS opens; I would come back for all the rabbit chew toys and supplies they have. I was checked out quickly and on my way.

The Rack Is Where It's At!…read more I'm a bargain shopper...I grew up with a mother that knew how to find a good deal and negotiate! The "feels" you get from finding a gem of an item and not paying full price, I can't tell you how amazing it is. Don't get me wrong, for the right item and occasion, I don't mind spending money on myself or a gift. But if we are talking about managing finances and being savvy with money, well then, you need to know how to shop! Over the years I've picked up wardrobes of good deals! Hugo Boss and Armani suits for on average $400-$500. Joe' Jeans for $50-$80. The best deal I ever found was a T-shirt for $0.01...that's right "one cent!" These days I enjoy shopping online. It's much more convenient and allows me to do a price comparison. Usually I will purchase two different sizes, then keep the size that fits best. It's also nice to have your items shipped to the local store, that way you don't have to stress with "Porch Pirates" stealing you deliveries! The Nordstrom Notes are always nice little surprises to add to the shopping experience. The team at the Oxnard is always willing to help with a pickup or return. I've been a happy Nordstrom Rack shopper for decades.
