We walked in and were warmly greeted. We came kind of late for lunch and too early for dinner so the restaurant was quite with only one other table with activity. We found out later that table was also celebrating someone's birthday. We were offered water right away and then we ordered our adult beverages. Yes kinda early but it was my friend's birthday so we each ordered a nice refreshing brew. We asked for tasters before deciding on the blood orange for me and the light colored beer for her. I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and fries. There was a healthy ordering of chicken that surprisingly I finished every bite. My friend had some of her sandwich to take home. The steak had to be the toughest steak I have even eaten... it was cooked perfectly but the meat must have been just the cheapest possible asbit was flavorless and like a said tough like chewing on a peice of leather. This place is outstanding! I cant recommend it highly enough - the place was quaint & homey with a very pleasant atmosphere. It was clean & everyone was very friendly. The dish we had was the vodka pasta & it was worth returning for. We traveled from 2 hours away & stopped here on our way home- & everything we had was so good that we both agreed we would return! Not only that, but the service was amazing. They brought us fresh made bread for no charge because they had made some extra. The bread was extremely good - texture & taste. With dessert I asked if they had whipped cream to go with the ice cream brownie, & they literally made it on the spot from scratch to accommodate the request. I have to say service and quality has gone down over the years here. We have been here multiple times and we used to love it here. Last few times I have been disappointed. This last time was the last straw. The server forgot one of our drinks (didn't even come back for a while, we had to flag the server down) and they also didn't have calamari appetizer available. The server didn't come to tell us that right away. It was about after waiting for 10-15 minutes, they come to tell us. I asked for bread and the bread was so hard, you can tell it was not fresh. The dinner plates were ok. At least the steak was cooked correct. Then we asked for desserts and they tell us all they have a cheesecakes balls and are out of all other desserts. This was a Friday night, you would think a restaurant would be stocked for a Friday night. Sadly, my business will be taken elsewhere now. read more

First time coming in to eat! This place was very clean, seemed as though it was a new spot, turns out they have been open for about 3yrs. The food was delicious it was light and fresh tasting not heavy at all. Service was great she was so nice and attentive. The only complaint I had was the coffee I had was not good at all. I drank half just to get some caffeine in me, but could not finish it no matter how many creams I would put into the coffee. Will definitely be back and bring the hubs and parents. I ordered the prime rib for take out before and it was great so I went back on 4/26/25. Big mistake! I ordered the ribeye for $48 expecting it to be a big juicy steak since it had a Fisherman's Wharf price tag. Well, it was thin and came with burnt Brussels sprouts and au gratin potatoes too hot to enjoy. I was able to eat a little of everything. Bread never came, they kept saying it wasn't ready, an hour after opening. There was no juice in the steak, I told them it was dry and they said they sent a message to the owner, or absent person in charge. I can get a better ribeye for $8 from the grocery store. I didn't order a salad as I planned on having bread. I didn't dare ask about dessert. It was so bad I won't even take a chance at the prime rib again. There was only one other table with customers. My table for two was wobbly, atmosphere is plain and service was satisfactory, except for being billed the whole amount, which I paid. read more

This the best hidden gem! I was introduced to this restaurant a few years ago and now that I'm back in the area, I go quite often. Food is phenomenal! The staff treats you well, very attentive. Okay so I went here for the first time 4 years ago and I was so unimpressed that it has taken me four years to try it again. My husband and I along with another couple decided to give it another try.... Big mistake. We went for dinner arriving at 5:45pm, the place was completely empty, we were there until 7:45 and only one other couple and two ladies came in during that 2 hours which should be their dinner rush time. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, however, the food was lacking flavor and quality. The couple we were with was visiting from Southern California where they own 4 upper scale steak house restaurants. Their opinion was that the food WAS NOT freshly made, was bland and lacked seasoning and quality. The main issue being that the food was obviously not fresh, they gave 3 stars for service and 1 star for the food. My husband and I decided that our food was worthy of 2 stars and the service 3.5 stars. If they had better food, they would have more customers, people go where the food is good, atmosphere is warm and inviting, service is great and the price matches the quality of food and sadly Burly's misses the mark on all if these. We cannot in good conscience recommend Burly's. I suspect they won't be in business much longer read more

My first time visiting this place. The most amazing eating experience of my life. The staff was friendly and attentive. The executive chef/,owner Mike Ortiz went out of his way to come out of his busy kitchen to our table and meet us and see if there was anything we needed. my wife had the ciopinno (out of this world) and I had the tomahawk pork chops. We brought along our compadres they enjoyed it also. The dessert was amazing also. I highly recommend this place. GREAT FOOD GREAT ATMOSPHERE GREAT STAFF. I will definitely come back. read more

Elizabeth our server was great! We made reservations before our performance we were standing at the Gallo, and there were not very many people there on a Thursday. It doesn't look like much from the outside. They need to put curtains up over the window on the right as it's an area they use for storage and looks very uninviting from the outside. Ambiance needs some work as they have great food and it's a good place for a date night. Just little things that wouldn't cost much could really change the feel. Putting up a divider from the bar area is one. They have a big conferance style dining room for a large party. We came on prime rib night so hubby had that. The mashed potatoes were unimpressive and needed seasoning. The prime was a nice big slice and cooked just right for medium rare. I had the halibut which was on special. The halibut was cooked well but needed a sauce of some kind. Not much flavor or seasoning so i used the awesome butter from the rolls. They are fantastic by the way, a must to order for $2. The asparagus needed the tough lower stems cut off. Otherwise it was cooked nicely. We had a cheesecake dessert on gingerbread with a cranberry topping. It was good. A few small adjustments and it could really be a dear place. read more

On the menu the description of the plate said one thing the ingredients were different and when questioned, excuses were made. Service, understaffed. We were given a coupon for $100 for poor food on a previous night, it was written in ink on the front, when tried to use it for our meal, we were told that the coupon was incorrect and that they never give more than $10. So I came into this establishment and ordered the pacific rim chicken thighs, the chicken had a real foul taste so i reached out to the server and let them know I wasn't happy with the food, the manager refused to remake the order and still wanted to charge me for the bill for which I paid, 2 days later I had a terrible case of the runs which lasted about 5 days I almost had to take myself to the hospital, if I can give this restaurant -5 stars I would do so please save your self the headache and stomach ache and take your business somewhere else read more

First visit here this evening, got the calamari the halibut special chopped chicken salad and two kids corn dogs and fries. Did not like the calamari, it had some of the plasticky shell on it still and it was just kind of fishy and not great. We did not finish that. I did not like my fish, I thought it was way over cooked. A big thick piece of halibut hard on the outside and tough in the middle, I thought it was a waste of what otherwise looked like a nice piece of fish. Partner said they liked my fish. Chopped chicken salad was fine nothing special chicken was tough. Desserts were microwave or frozen or something, definitely prepared beforehand and hastily thrown together when ordered. Waitress was nice, we were able to get a table within a half an hour notice on a Friday night, and the place was clean and if the food were better I'd also consider it reasonably priced. Horrible experience and food. I politely asked our waitress right when we sat down, so she would not be surprised, for separate tabs. Defensively, she stated, "I'll do it this time, but don't be mad at my staff if they won't because they aren't allowed to." She kept repeating this statement, revealing herself to be the manager or similar. I actually told her to forget it, that we could just Venmo each other, and she insisted she'd do it, but again saying none of the other staff will. I tried to make a lame joke and she gave me a weird look. Then, she completely embarrassed me by asking me if my little niece was my granddaughter. I am 38 years old and pregnant with my first child, and I am not saying I'm a beauty queen, but I know I don't look old enough to be grandmother! I was very embarrassed and not sure why she would make that comment, but it felt intentionally unkind. Pregnancy is hard enough and being made to feel unattractive on top of it is a lot to handle, especially when I had tried hard to look nice. The vibe between us was awkward the rest of the night, no matter how nice I tried to be to her. She was noticeably nicer to others in our party, particularly one of my brothers. Her attitude softened towards me at the end of the night; conveniently, right before it was time for us to pay. That aside, I had a bad meal. I ordered the chopped chicken salad and my family joked it looked like a hospital salad. Because the waitress/manager had been so rude to me, I didn't bother to complain or send it back. In retrospect, that was stupid of me. Instead we ordered several desserts to share. The chocolate brownie was underwhelming. Cheap chocolatey flavor and came with vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. Waitress told us she did not know they were out of chocolate and did not give us the option to cancel; we ordered it mainly to feed my finicky four year old niece some chocolate ice cream, as she does not like any other flavor. Oh well. The other dessert was a "creme brulee" but it was completely cold, like a thicker pudding, and no burnt sugar topping. Really weird. We all remarked it was better than the chocolate, but were disappointed that it was not at all a creme brulee. Again, after feeling humiliated that I look old, and getting a lot of negativity from our waitress, I decided not to complain. We will never come back. My family rated their meals from decent to mediocre. The odd dynamic with the waitress that I had clearly angered (unintentionally!) was just too much. Her attempts to overcompensate later rang false. And the food has just slipped. So disappointing. read more

We moved to Modesto a year ago. We tried this little spot after hearing it was the best steak in town. It has been nothing but AMAZING every time we go. The service is always family friendly, interactive and quick. The food is always delicious. The ambience is good enough for date night and still good enough for family Night. I love coming here. Proud to call it my neighborhood spot. The Brussels sprouts, the calamari, the Thai salad, the Cavapatti, the mushroom ravioli, and my favorite drink.... Lavendar Lemondrop.
