This place was in my list to try for a while, and last week I finally popped in. I always get a meat platter when I try a new bbq restaurant for the first time, but there were a ton of good looking things on the menu. I had ribs, pulled pork, and burnt ends. Everything was cooked well, especially the ribs. The rib meat pulled off cleanly from the bone, but did not fall off when picking up (falling off is over cooked). The pulled pork came lightly sauced, and it had some southwestern notes of cumin and chili powder. I thought it was good. Their standard bbq sauce was good, but a little on the sweet side for my preference. Their southwest bbq sauce was delicious and unique to anything I've had in KC. I went well on my burnt ends. They also had a honey glaze--which I didn't eat; just sampled--and a habanero mustard which was good for fry dipping. I don't think this place is in the very top tier of KC bbq, but it's high up there, and a place I'll come back to. read more

Wow what a disappointment hadn't tried this place for a while thought I'll run by and grab some quick barbecue to take home ordered there to meet platter and a half pound of chopped meat tax included $25 You know there's a problem with the amount of food you get when they hand you the two go bag and it's not very heavy... definitely had bread in there just surprised with all the barbecue competition around this area that it wouldn't have been a little more substantial.... meet was OK but nothing to write home about probably won't be back read more

Pretty good BBQ. It's hard to enter the KC BBQ scene and compete. Location is the best thing here for when you're in the area.

The staff is really nice here. This place doesn't have the ambiance of a lot of the classic KC places, but that is OK considering you don't have to wait in line or worry about getting a table. Where this place shines are the Burnt Ends. I guess they'd be heavily criticized if they weren't good, but seriously -- I don't think I have had better anywhere else in KC. Tender and moist on the inside, and with a serious amount of charred spices on the outside. The downside is that the other meats and sides are just about average for the area (tried the brisket, pulled pork, and sausage at least - next time ribs and chicken). If they can get these other dishes to the level of the burnt ends, this will be an easy 5-star place. read more

Yum! Very good! I got the burnt end bowl! The cheesy corn is great and so are the burnt ends and mac n cheese! The beans are great too! They have Pepsi products which I love - (Do the Dew!). My only small complaint is that there was some hard gristle that I kept biting down on and ow! But it was good as well! read more

Place is a little but hidden, but don't miss it. I'm not normally a big "sauce" guy, but there "honey glaze" is shear greatness! They have several different sauces and all are very good. The burnt ends and great! Lots of bark and plenty of moist flavor on the inside. Smoked turkey was cooked to perfection, not dry at all and plenty of flavor. Long time return customer, today was a different experience. we orderedburnt ends turkey, baked beans and cheesy corn to go. We were disappointedwhen we fixed our plates. My wife's burnt end looked like they burnt yesterday. thet were dried out. Not the normal fare. I had the turkey and it was not moust as it normally is. This place was great! We don't have much experience with KC BBQ, but decided to stopped by on our trip and we were not disappointed. After eating this, I would say that you haven't really had BBQ until you've had KC BBQ. Ordered the Burnt Ends bowl and Burnt Ends Mac and Cheese bowl. Both were really good, the meat was melt in your mouth AMAZING! Lots of different sauces to try that all tasted great. The environment was a little loud but nothing to stop us from coming. Another we ate it because we paid for it restaurant.. Sauces tasted like they came from a bottle of. KC Masterpiece. His brisket was cold and dry, burnt ends lukewarm and chopped so fine they looked like baby food (combo sandwich). Sandwich not constructed as expect. Pulled pork sandwich was tasteless and the bad sauce didn't help it. Wedge potato side was cold and soggy. Additionally, the counter added a drink to our order we did NOT order. Barbecue is to Kansas City what pizza is to New York City. There are hundreds of places in the city that claim to have great BBQ, but few hold up to picky and opinionated eaters. Most people will say that Joe's Kansas City and JackStack are the top two leaders of the BBQ world in KC, but I would disagree. Both are great and have their places, but Burnt End BBQ is rockin' it! My favorite part is that there's an incredible menu and fantastic food. The fact that you can get BOWLS of combined menu items means I'm personally in BBQ heaven. I got the burnt end bowl and a side of the cheesy corn. I was pleased with the burnt ends and I am picky about by burnt ends - charred yet tender and juicy. They was covered in fried onion straws and served with a big piece of corn bread with baked beans. A good dish, but wish there would have been more burnt ends. Pretty awesome barbecue! Their bowls are the way to go. They have a few on the menu, and the "build your own" bowl lets you choose two meats and two sides to be put in a bowl with cornbread. The bowls are perfect for people, like me, who prefer to get more than one thing in each bite. Tip - in my opinion, it's plenty to share, especially with an additional side. The burnt ends are great, and I love the pulled pork. There's also a special every weekday, typically a sandwich with fries I think. It would make a great lunch deal! Finally, from what I've seen, the employees have been super nice/helpful. They gave suggestions and answered questions. I even spoke to a manager for a few minutes. With the current virus situation, my wife and I wanted a nice treat for dinner rather than try and fix something here at home. Burnt End to the rescue! We called ahead to make sure they were open and food was available for carry out. Success! We ordered and stopped by their north side carry out door. It was ready within a minute or two of their suggested pick-up time. The staff was truly happy we ordered, helping them to continue service and keep them going. They were genuine with their comments. You are most likely to find me eating my lunch at my desk during the work week, so the fact that I went to The Burnt End twice in the same week is pretty notable. I ended up having the bowls both times, to maximize the number of things I was trying. Therefore, I can vouch for the goodness of the pulled pork, burnt ends, brisket and sausage. The beans and "hot potato salad" (really more like a loaded scalloped potato thing) and cornbread are all excellent. On one occasion they mixed up my sides. When I said something, I expected they would take the incorrect side away, but they insisted on bringing out what I had ordered and leaving what they put on by accident. So it's weird to rave about service at a place where you order at the counter, but they do a good job. I don't know, it seems like a barbeque place pops up on every corner in KC, and while this one may be a little more corporate than some of the greats, it's for sure worth a visit. read more

I was really excited an will give this place a second shot, we had a 1/2 pound of every meat on the menu except for chicken and turkey. 1. The burnt ends some of the best, and I saw several of their burnt end bowls come out and they looked awesome. 2. Price is very good and amount of food was def more than 1/2 pound. 3. Sausage was not good almost a bologna style, would be good grilled on a sandwich but alone not the best. 4. Brisket was thick cut which I love but was so dry we didn't even get pass two bites. 5. Pulled pork came out already sauced, that's more like a sloppy joe or you are trying to hide something: let the customer sauce as needed (IMO BBQ doesn't need sauce). 6. Sauces- we tried them all and the where all very good I was pleasantly surprised with the bold! 7. I wrote a lot of negative things but I have high expectations when it comes to BBQ in KC, I walked out and really enjoyed what they are doing here! What a find! Found this on the map app on my phone after I dropped my wife off for some business. Awesome! Burnt ends (What else could I order at a place with this name.) were succulent a little crispy and chewy but very flavorful and moist. A side of fries almost filled the tray and the coleslaw rounded out a great lunch. Staff was very friendly, and we chatted merrily while I waited for my order. Brought my wife back here after her appointment and although she does not eat beef, she did down a pint of the slaw and we took some more burnt ends home. I've tried many BBQ places in Kansas City, and frankly I've yet to find good BBQ. Oklahoma Joe's has dry brisket, despite going there at least five times. Fiorella's doesn't have much flavor, and Gates' sausage is like solidified vomit. But this BBQ joint? FANTASTIC! I have FINALLY found the right BBQ place. Unlike Smokin' Guns, the burnt ends here are so flavorful and moist that they melt in your mouth. Add the stringed fried onions in a burnt end bowl, and you've got a match made in heaven. I decided to add some sides as well. If there's any downfall, know that the sides are TINY. The individual portion is basically only five bites at the most. However, when the lady asked if I wanted creamy or spicy coleslaw, I asked if I could do half and half. The guy behind the counter said that he couldn't do that, so he just gave me an extra side for free, yay! If I had to pick, I definitely would eat the creamy coleslaw next time. The spicy coleslaw was just a bunch of black pepper and was too sour, as if the coleslaw had gone bad. The mac and cheese was creamy and full of great, cheesy liquid. One of the greatest debates of all time; Texas BBQ vs KS BBQ. Burnt End has settled this debate for me. KS does BBQ right! Burnt End was tender with great smoked flavor. The portions were plentiful, the prices were fair and the service was great. I had the two meat plate which came with your choice of two meats and two sides. The meat selections included ribs, pulled pork, brisket, ham and smoked turkey to name a few. There were endless options of sides such as mac and cheese, baked beans, potatoe salad and just about every other southern side that would compliment BBQ. Wow what a great BBQ find. If you want to mix it up amd deviate from your regular BBQ spot in KC give Burnt End BBQ a try. Its classic BBQ done well. The thing I enjoyed was the sauce selection they have. The sauces seem a little more experimental than would you find at the stand out BBQ joints around town, but they are really good.
