The burnt ends were very much the burnt ends of the beef - my husband really liked them but I had some dry bits that were not fun to eat around. Mac & cheese was good, not off the charts. 1/2 Burnt Ends BBQ - Kansas When you're in Kansas/ Kansas City area, BBQ is non-negotiable. Since we were staying near our Airbnb, we searched for a local place and landed on Burnt Ends BBQ, a restaurant that's well known for its barbecue sauces. We walked in with no expectations and were quickly seated. Our server, Lily, greeted us right away, took our drink order, and brought out complimentary cornbread bites. Those little bites were a fantastic start to the meal. If I lived nearby, I'd probably order those every visit. I had already decided what I wanted, but my wife was doing her usual "let me study every item on the menu" routine. Lily recommended the All the Ends Platter, so I changed my order and we decided to share it. The platter included beef, pork, and corned beef burnt ends. I chose the creamy coleslaw while my wife selected the baked potato salad. Presentation was excellent. Everything looked like it was going to be outstanding. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't quite match the appearance. The corned beef burnt ends were decent, the pork was just okay, but the beef was easily the best of the three. Since Burnt Ends is known for its sauces, I sampled all four. None of them were what I'd call unforgettable, but my favorites were the Thick & Bold followed by the Honey Glaze. The sides were a mixed bag. The baked potato salad was served warm, which makes sense considering it's modeled after a baked potato, but both my wife and I prefer potato salad cold. It just wasn't for us. The creamy coleslaw also seemed to be missing something. It wasn't bad--it simply lacked the flavor I was hoping for. Since neither of us cared much for the sides, my wife ordered a basket of fries. Crispy, hot, and perfectly cooked. Sometimes the simplest things are the best. After finishing the burnt ends, we decided to order a half rack of ribs. I'm glad we did. They turned out to be one of the highlights of the meal--tender, flavorful, and worth the extra five dollars. The biggest disappointment had nothing to do with the food. The dining room was uncomfortably warm. It wasn't very busy, yet it felt like the air conditioning either wasn't working or simply couldn't keep up. It definitely affected the overall experience. In the end, the service from Lily was very good, the complimentary cornbread bites were excellent, the fries were spot on, and the ribs were the best thing we ate. Overall, it wasn't a bad meal--it just wasn't the memorable Kansas City BBQ experience I was hoping for. If I were only in town for a few days, I'd probably continue exploring some of the other local BBQ spots before returning. Loved my Ruben with very nicely smoked pastrami and melted cheese, toasted bread, and nice dressing. I loved the creamy coleslaw with very nice seasoning. My friend enjoyed her burnt end bowl and shared a piece of the meat. It had great smoked flavor! It looked like an odd accumulation of ingredients but she said it all works very nicely together. I can't wait to come back and try a bowl. Her daughter had the French dip and she really enjoyed it. Her husband had the 2 meat platter. He liked the cheesy corn but did not care for the Mac & cheese. They decided the beef burnt ends is the best meat. I had the pineapple crush martini. Thanks to Restaurant week we finally made out to the DeSoto location. People are friendly, server was young but knew her stuff, & the restaurant was very clean. We ordered the Three Little Pigs, while the flavors were good the only thing that wasn't overcooked or super fatty was the pulled pork; also got the 2 Meat Platter, I chose turkey and pulled pork and enjoyed both but the pork was definitely the star. Vibrant and bustling lunch service offering a quick and delicious option in De Soto, KS. Located in an old Burger King, the dining room and bar is light and airy with lots of natural light. They were having a bit of an issue with AC dripping in the dining room and was fortunately, not over a patron's head. I ordered the smoked turkey Cobb salad and should have probably known better than to order a salad at a BBQ restaurant. There aren't a ton of lighter options and the salad was disappointing for $14. It was on the smaller side and came out with no avocado, no bacon, and the wrong salad dressing. The smoked turkey was delicious and I should've just gotten it on a sandwich with a side salad, will know for next time. My husband got the burnt end nachos, a Thursday special, and was very pleased. Burnt End BBQ has had a reputation for pretty good BBQ. It has a broad menu of meats & bowls. I've been there several times. Their burnt ends are fairly good, and with the name on the building one would expect them to be excellent. With that in mind, I was a little disappointed each time I ordered the burnt ends. They have a medium taste, lean, but without the crispy edges. They have 5 different choices of bbq sauce, each giving your meat a wide range of flavors. The burnt ends are average with better ones several other places. But with the good sides & the variety of self-serve sauces, I give them an upgraded score by one star to four. read more

I've only been once, this afternoon for a late lunch, but I was very happy with the food and the service. The restaurant is clean, new and bright with many windows. They brought us a small serving of their fried cornbread which was unexpected and delicious. They have a happy hour everyday from 2-5pm and 7-close! I had the brisket French dip with fries which I thought it was very good and I had a peach mango margarita off the happy hour menu. Stopped in after finishing up work in Lawrence. I must say this place is in an old Burger King and it's weird to walk into what you know was a fast food joint and there's a full bar. The place is so much cleaner and nicer than its previous occupant kept it. I sat at the bar and ordered a cold Yengling beer and a smokehouse Rueben with fries. Nothing beats a cold beer in a frosty mug on a hot day. The Rueben was good but could have used a little more corned beef. Plenty of spicy kraut which I loved and cheese. Coming from Texas to try the BBQ but also the southwest spin on many dishes. I gotta say the fact it is inside an old Burger King should have been my first red flag. the bathrooms 5' from the bar where you can hear and smell what goes on inside while you eat/drink should have been the second red flag. But the MARINARA SAUCE as salsa is the end all. You absolutely can not give a Texan pureed marinara (there is no mistaking italian marinara sauce) as salsa with corn chips and think you wont get a comment. i am upset by that on a strangely personal level i didnt expect from myself. If it was paired with garlic cheese bread i would be happier. there was no chopped onion, cilantro, hot peppers of any kind or anything other than tomato. in fact i pulled out tomato seeds (seeds are removed from romas when making salsa any southerner knows this) and many seeds were sprouted. you dont eat tomato plants the plant part so sprouted seeds in "salsa" are a no-go. they cause stomach upset. the burnt end nachos were very light on meat and the burnt ends were not cripsy but just some pork shreds. it was juicy enough so it was ok. there was literally one spoonful of picante on my whole thing of nachos. untoasted corn chips got super soggy quickly so half was just not good to eat. Over all extremely disappointed. place looked clean and staff was friendly. spaciaous parking lot but inside is limited space for how big the parking lot is. no hot beverages which to me is weird for a full bar. most bars at least have one bad black coffee option..no sobering up here. read more

I've been here multiple times and I have to say it doesn't disappoint! Their burnt ends are really good and the brisket is pretty good too. Their fries are perfect which is important because you have to have something good to compliment your main dish! They are crinkle cut, crispy, and copious. The people staff is friendly and always working. The restaurant is clean with heavy duty paper towels at each table to help clean you up after your meal. Next to the drink fountain they have pumps and cups for the different sauces. I definitely recommend giving it a try. The price a right and the food is good. I go here about every other month and every time it's a great experience. It's quiet enough to where you can easily have conversations but not too quiet where it's awkward. I've never been to the other burnt ends in KC but this one has a small-town vibe to it. The food here is great and I always feel full for the rest of the day when I go here for lunch. The meal comes with fries and cole slaw. There are four different sauces on the table already. I tried all four of course. The variety is nice. The sauces are fine. The burnt ends, pork and beef, were tasty. The slaw was served cold and fresh. The slaw could have used a little more spice. The fries came unseasoned and were bland but hot and crunchy. WOW. We love burnt ends and have had a hard time being impressed on recent trips to the KC area. But our faith has been restored (at least in the Overland Park location). I love that you get to watch all of your food being prepped and plated if you want to. And the sides are wonderful too. The wedge fries which are not always available were seasoned well and crispy outside and tender inside. Onion straws add a nice crunch to the meal, and the sweet and spicy cole slaw has a slow burn. I found the sliced brisket to be a bit dry, but the smoke is just right and actually it was better cold the next day as a snack. But the BE were perfect! Tender and barky just as I like them. 5 of us had lunch there today, bowls, Sandwiches and Platters. To say is was good is not fair. When I want a good smoked meat meal. This would be my go to for sure. If I didn't live 40 minutes away.
