Just started a low carb diet, so we were looking for low carb options, and BBQ is a good choice for that. Burnt ends were beyond phenomenal!! Ribs, pulled pork, and turkey were delicious. Boyfriend and I split the Royal Platter, and there was plenty for both of us. I loved the coleslaw, and the fries were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. We will definitely return. Visited burnt ends on a recent stop in Overland Park. The burnt ends were delicious. Tender and juicy, the ends had great bark on them and full of smokey flavor. The staff was extremely helpful since it was our first time eating here. They gave us generous samples of burnt ends and the ribs. Wanted take out on a Friday night, but wanted to try a new BBQ place. Found them on yelp and not disappointed at all. Burnt ends, sweet and spicy Cole slaw, and hickory beans. I must say I like these burnt ends better than Joes KC!!! They have less fat and the flavor is out of this world. I went to this restaurant one time when they first opened and I was not impressed. I randomly went back a few weeks ago and had their burnt ends on a salad and I was shocked by the amount of flavor and tenderness of the burnt ends. The quality has increased so much from when they first opened. I then saw Joe Wilcox behind the counter. If you do not know who he is, he was the general manager for Plaza III Steakhouse for a long time back when Plaza III was at the top of their game. He has definitely brought the Plaza III quality to this restaurant from the meat to the sides to the service. For my sisters wedding shower, we are catering burnt ends from this restaurant instead of Joe's Kansas City. Great job Burnt Ends BBQ and Joe Wilcox! read more

The BEST burnt ends I have eaten, bar none!! Tender, not dry at all......the caramelzation, the flaver of the spices were perfection! The bbq beans were so tasty, with just a tiny bit of heat to them. And then to top off the bowl of perfection, were onion strings! YUMMY! The staff very friendly and courteous, small, clean place, prices are reasonable, but the sodas were high.....$2.50 for a small, true you can get refills, but I still feel that is a high price. So down the street I went in search of this place. Once I saw it, I was convinced that it was some corporate creation that churns out boring, plastic tasting food. I ate lunch here today while in town for work. It was just me and it was clear to the staff I hadn't been there before. They were all very friendly and the service was super fast. I got the jumbo burnt ends sandwich and classic potato salad and both were very good. I spoke to the manager for a few minutes and watched him working around the store (which was very clean) and he was obviously obsessive about his store. Very nice experience. read more

I stopped in for a late lunch on Monday while I was getting tires at Tires Plus. The place is nice, modern, clean, good music playing giving the it a cool, trendy vibe. It was dead (I was the only customer) but it was also after 1:00 pm, i.e. after the typical Overland Park Office lunch hour. There's a couple of big screens showing ESPN for sports enthusiasts although you can't hear anything over the music, which I prefer anyway...listening to music v. listening to sports? I vote music any day! The counter girl was friendly and helpful. Never having been there before, I wasn't sure what to order, and wasn't up to perusing the entire menu, which seemed to be fairly comprehensive, so with the help of the helpful counter girl, I had the special, which on Monday is the burnt ends. You get two sides with that, and since the Cheesy corn had already been highly recommendation by Josh from Tire Plus, I choose the corn and baked beans, because you CANNOT eat BBQ without baked beans! Burnt End BBQ serves beer, a bonus for beer lovers (see attached photo of beer selection). It's not on tap, and that's ok, because at least it's available, and there's a lot variety. See Sexy Beer photo. Bonus: Cold Glasses = Nice Touch My food came quickly, and was nicely presented. Portion sizes were normal and not super large and enough to feed a family of twelve. For me, that's always a bonus. Quality over quantity. It was reasonably priced. My lunch cost $12.50, and filled me up for the day (I'm writing at 9pm and I skipped dinner tonight because I'm still not hungry). The meat was delicious! Very flavorful, tender, oh so yummy. The beans had a little different taste...I'm typically a Jack Stack girl, but they were great. And the Cheesy corn, as promised, was fantastic. I usually do not indulge in Cheesy corn but I would recommend it. It can't be any worse than french fries! My meal also came with toasted, buttered bread, which I didn't need but ate anyway! You know how that goes...you can't leave food on your plate because somewhere on the other side of world children are starving! (Thanks, Mom.) I didn't particularly care for the BBQ sauce. Again, I'm a Jack Stack or KC Masterpiece kinda girl, so when I taste something different...it's just, well, different. Not necessarily bad, just different. You know what I mean, right? I tried the spicy...and it wasn't. And I tried the regular, and it was. And I didn't try the honey bbq, the three flavors of sauce that are on each table. I read some reviews about the service at Burnt Ends being less than satisfactory. I didn't experience that, but then, I was the only customer during this late lunching hour of 1:30 on a Monday. Here's something funny I did see...there was a woman Swiffering the floor and she was texting, checking her messages or talking on her phone. I hope she was the manager checking the sales numbers or inventory levels, otherwise, pretty bad etiquette for service staff to be on their cells while they work. Always important no matter where you go: how clean is the bathroom? I'm pleased to report that the ladies restroom was fresh and clean. I didn't check out the men's room since it was occupied. Burnt End BBQ is located on the Northeast corner of 119th & Metcalf, in the same shopping center as WalMart, Kohls & Best Buy next to the Vitamin Shop. It's kind of a weird location, and I bet because of that, it's tough on the business. Location truly is everything. But if you're in the neighborhood, and you're feeling like good BBQ at a reasonable price, I recommend this place. I had the Pork Belly Skillet. Melt in your mouth pork belly with fried onion strips on top, above delicious Brussel sprout shavings and cheesy grits. Not to mention a ring of their amazing BBQ sauce around the whole thing. I could eat it every week. I also loved the honey BBQ sauce they had as an option with local honey in it. It was OK, but didn't compare to my gold stanard which is Jackstack. The cheesy corn and beans were not to my taste. The chicken was over smoked and dry. I've eaten here twice now and this review is a combination of both experiences...one four star and one two, the latter of my experience. The first time was during the summer at lunchtime. I was pretty amazed at the good quality of the bbq to be quite honest! The portions seemed a bit small for the price (I had the one meat, two side platter) with burnt ends, beans and fries, but everything tasted fantastic! So yummy in fact, that when I had to order catering for a big graduation party two months later (100+ people) I emailed them to get details. It took a few times for them to respond to me, and when they finally did, their responses were slightly condescending when I asked specific questions. So, they missed out on a $1500 catering job in the end. Water under the bridge...and I happened to be in the area again recently in the early evening around 6 pm. Restaurant only had 4 other tables during prime time dinner hour. Had three people in our party and ordered a pork sandwich, two meat platter and single meat platter with pulled pork and burnt ends. The burnt ends were okay, more fatty than typical but good. Sandwich (according to my son) was just okay and nothing he'd want to eat again. The pulled pork...what should I say here so I'll be nice...it was not only terrible but it looked terrible. It was greasy and mushy and plopped down on the platter like a big pile of loose meat. Super unappetizing to look at and unfortunately none of it got eaten. Coupled with the fact that one dude at a table was coughing his lungs off the entire time, we couldn't escape fast enough. I'm not sure if this is a sign of a downward slide or just an off night but I can't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

Very disappointed. We've gone to this restaurant at least 30 times. We enjoy taking family and friends here when they come to visit. My parents have ALWAYS ordered off the kids menu without issue. They are 75 and 76 years old. Tonight, my mom ordered the BBQ pork sandwich off the kids menu and we were told she wasn't allowed to do that. Even after we talked to the manager, we were still told she wasn't allowed to do that. We asked to talk to a different manager and we were told we'd get the same answer. My mom is 75 and like most typical seniors, doesn't eat a lot. She was trying to be conscious of not over ordering the amount of food she would eat knowing that she would throw away a lot if she ordered an adult meal. (Leftover microwaved fries just don't taste good.) We were told that she wasn't allowed to order off the kids menu because of the cost. The amount of food is the same, they just had to charge her for adult menu price. That makes no sense. Aren't kids menus supposed to be a smaller version of the adult menu? Nope. We were told if she wanted a BBQ sandwich, fries and a drink, she would have to order the adult size. So, half of her fries went in the trash. Half of her soda went in the trash. She did eat the whole sandwich, which again, we were told was the same size as the kids menu. Long story short, I guess this restaurant is ok with making their extra money off of seniors on a fixed income. Next time we will go to KC Joe's where they allow seniors to order off the kids menu, as do most restaurants. There were 7 people in my party tonight so we'll give someone else our dinner business from now on. read more

First off the amount of food this place gives you is utterly ridiculous for the price you have to pay. I ordered two meats with two sides and two drinks that cost me over $20. When I received the plate it looked like a sampler. I had about 10 pieces of burnt ends-if you want to call it that because it was mostly fat. The turkey was sub par. I only had about 5 slices of that. Two small ramekins of mac and cheese and baked beans were my sides and I had more baked beans than anything. If I hadn't ordered a drink I wouldn't have been full. I forgot to mention that my brother-in-law was with me and this boy can put some food down! This wasn't even a mere snack for him! Now I want to talk about the sanitation of this place. There was meat and other food debris all over the floor where I ate. I had to be careful where I placed my feet. There's nothing like stepping on meat, beans, and crumbs all over the floor. I didn't get my monies worth in this place so therefore I will not be eating there again. read more

OMG! I was worried from a previous review that takeout would be dry and not as good, but boy was I wrong. WOW! I just had my FAVORITE BBQ meal ever! And I've eaten a lot of BBQ! I got the burnt end bowl and it had just the right amount of everything. Mouth watering, melt-in-your mouth burnt ends, awesome beans, the fried cornbread croutons were WONDERFUL, and the crispy onions on top were killer! Way to go! Hubby had a rib and burnt end meal with fries and a cornbread wedge. Ribs were great! Fries soggy by the time we got home (no fault of the restaurant) so order sides accordingly. There was a wait so order 20 minutes bf you want to eat. I'm so glad they were busy and hope they continue to be. Well worth the wait. We will definitely be back. And to think we almost went to Q39.
