An outstanding visit from the moment we walked in. We were greeted and seated promptly (with reservation.) We started with the Goat Empanadas. Delicious filling surrounded by a flakey empanada crust. It's no wonder it sells out often. All of the entrees are shareable. Our party of three wanted to try a variety of dishes, and not one disappointed. They all came out individually, which allowed for good company to share a nice bottle of wine (syrah . stolpman 'crunchy roastie' 2022.) If I had to pick my "must-haves" for future visits, I'd say the Sticky Pork Shank, Wood-Fired Eggplant, and Chickpea Fritters would have to join the empanadas. I truly feel that every dessert is worth a try. Both the Mango Sticky Rice and Chocolate Basil Brownie Bash (new) were delicious. So, save room for something! Wonderful atmosphere! The restaurant is a part of a hotel that looks like a great staycation location (we're seriously considering coming back for a staycation and the food as well) We were on our way home from SF and didnt quite want the weekend to end and I've this place bookmarked. We found a reservation and did show up a bit early; the hostess informed us she may be able to seat us earlier but we were happy to explore the surroundings. Their pool area is so inviting and relaxing but you needed a key to get in (understandably) The restaurant provides an outdoor eating space that leads into their beer garden; And their beer garden is full of games and plenty of space to yourself if you just a need a place to read. The outdoor is as beatiful as indoors. The atmosphere is inviting enough for a date nite, a solo dinner, a group night out, etc. The seating is a combination of booths and tables and they also have a private dining room for a party of 12! I was hoping for a booth but alas we got a small table for two (which i always feel like I wanna say "we're gonna order a lot and need more space) so maybe next time. We had the avocado dip (so refreshing and unique and delicious), the short ribs (tasted amazing but nothing i havent had before), the branzino (great! Packed with so much flavor and topping to fill your appetite,) the greenbeans (you MUST order, so flipping flavorful! We wanted more and took more home) and for desert their pandan flan (a great choice and served in an unexpected and different from what i know as flan). The cocktails seemed interesting but the restaurant closes at 10pm and we felt, at times, rushed so we opted for a straight whiskey for my husband and a glass of wine and sparkling for myself. (Their sauvignon blanc was the perfect crisp and the sparkling was perfect for the flan) If it's not a full five stars was because our waiter asked us if we were celebrating anything special and we said our anniversary BUT didnt say congratulations nor did her acknowledge it for the rest of the meal. Valley Goat is conveniently and oddly right off 237 and Mathilda. Once you ignore the surrounding Google buildings, it almost feels like you've escaped to a remote little getaway spot. The restaurant itself has such warm and welcoming vibes, which honestly feels rare for this part of Sunnyvale, so I'm really glad this place exists. The bar area is beautiful, and the food was absolutely amazing. The fire-roasted branzino was delicious. The "sweet and sour sauce" description almost scared me off, but it actually tasted more like a bright fish sauce vinaigrette that went perfectly with the fish. The sautéed green beans were highly recommended and completely lived up to the hype. Opt for the spiced fries instead of the disco because we weren't in a "loaded" fries mood. I stumbled in here completely by accident while looking for a nice dinner option on a business trip, and lo and behold it's one of Stephanie Izard's restaurants! Girl and Goat Chicago had the best meal of my life so as soon as I saw the little goat logo I had high expectations. Those expectations were, for the most part, met immediately upon entering and experiencing the gorgeous ambiance of this restaurant. It had the cool California coastal aesthetic while not being too pretentious. I loved the place settings and the high ceilings and art throughout. The drinks were so pricey but so good. I got the Goat Fashioned and it was absolutely worth every sip. I will echo that the price for portions here is a little skewed. The goat empanada was incredible, one of the best bites of food I've ever had, but the other two items I got--chickpea fritters and asparagus--were so covered in decoration that I felt like it buried the main event. They looked gorgeous, but adding edible flowers and crunchy bits seemed like a way to stretch the plate without adding a lot of substance. I'd love to see more of the signature Goat ingredient, as well as larger portions with less fluff. I'll definitely be back, perhaps for happy hour to curb the cost. If you know Stephanie's style, then you can see this whole menu has that Izard flair - there's a Latin or Asian flair to every dish because she loves that punch of flavor. And it works! I would have most of these again! We started with drinks of course. Her cocktails are expensive ($20-23 per) so we veered into wine which was a hair bit more palatable ($17-20). I had a Syrah and boyfriend had the Cab. It was cool to hear that Stephanie personally picks what is featured and we have to say, her picks were right up our alley. Disco fries - awesome. Fries topped with pork, cotija cheese, jalapeños, and pickled onions. Savory, spicy, with that pop of acid. What's missing? A sweet element you say? She got you covered with a drizzle of coconut that can't be seen but can be tasted. Goat Empanadas: the Izard namesake. Super flaky pastry and the goat was treated exceptionally well. If you didn't tell me it was goat, I would have just assumed pork. The hucatay sauce was herby and delicious. We also used it for the fries. Hamachi Crudo: really liked her play on textures and flavors here. The puffed rice and the hamachi were really nice foils, but the true star were those peels of kumquat which are totally in season now - bright, citrusy, tart. Salmon - this was a tad on the salt bomb side for me. The miso base was salty because duh, miso. But then then salmon was also aggressively seasoned before having a sichuan spice oil generously covering it. The salmon was cooked perfectly otherwise. Pandan flan: toasted rice, macerated strawberries, and creamy pandan flavor. No complaints lol. I would definitely welcome a repeat experience. Jose was the best of the best server! I was blown away by his attentiveness and his recommendations for drink pairings with my meal. The skuna bay salmon was a 15/10... it's the #1 protein I eat, but I've never had anything as good as the salmon served here. Jose recommended the petit chablis for my wine pairing and he was right on the money. For dessert I had the chocolate passion fruit semifreddo, another excellent suggestion. Potato Crepe (5/5): This is like the Vietnamese bánh xèo but with potato instead of the egg. It's really think so a good bang for your buck. I never had sauce with potato, so that was interesting. The outside is crunch but the inside is soft as it's balanced. The Vietnamese sausage tasted more like a regular sausage. Yolk onomokiyaki (3/5): I thought this was okay. It tasted like a fried with a bunch of random flavor. Goat empanadas (5/5): This seemed like a classic. The breading was perfectly fluffy and crusty. Finally had a chance to dine at Valley Goat and it did not disappoint! Our party of 5 was seated at one of their round tables and it's easy to be distracted by all the beautiful green decor and vinyls in the restaurant. Our server was exceptional from beginning to end and promptly took our order and water was constantly filled at the table. He was not kidding when he said the food would come out quickly, and because the table space is small, we had to keep divvying up the food and clearing out the large plates. We ordered the hamachi poke which was refreshing and loved the puffed rice. Goat empanadas were flaky and buttery, could have easily eaten a whole plate to myself. Disco fries were very tasty and loved by all. The green beans were a tad salty but really good as well. Chickpea fritters were also good, the goat yogurt was a nice touch. We ordered the grilled eggplant and sticky shank as our mains. The eggplant skin was too charred for our taste, but really liked the carrot tahini and the fresh baked pita was so good we ordered another. The shank was one of my favorites, so tender and flavorful. Loved wrapping it in the lettuce, though the pear kimchi could have had more flavor and spice. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice and the pandan flan. The pandan flan was easily my favorite! We also had cocktails and while the espresso martini was good, I didn't like the smoky flavor to it. It was sitting at the bar and only brought over once second dish came out and I asked where it was. Avo dip was also forgotten. After all the food came, I asked where it was and he went back and got it. Paying the bill and getting the card back also took forever. Not a good experience. Value is not there. Beautiful farm to table restaurant in the treetop hotel. You're definitely paying for the beautiful leafy decor and Instagrammable photos. Both indoor seating and patio seating which is adjacent to the beer garden. Overall the menu is intriguing and unique, this would have been a five stars for us if the portions fit the bill, and the service was better. Bread just shouldn't be $22 , but the red pepper flavored bread was a good starter, I liked the goat cheese sprinkled in the bread along with the creamy dip. The Cauliflower sprouts was not what we expected, I guess I didn't know what a cauliflower sprout was!! It consists of more stems and leaves than a traditional cauliflower head. That being said we were pleasantly surprised, and this was a really flavorful and delicious dish. The chicken kebabs were super skimpy, but they were well seasoned with a spicy and tender and juicy. There are chicken kebabs on the kids menu too and I literally thought they made a mistake because the chicken kebabs just seem so small in size they just had to be for mini people . The roasted eggplant was a fantastic dish. It was the only dish that was a large and even if you're not a huge eggplant fan , the carrot hummus and tzatziki on the side were really addictive. Comes with pita that I personally thought was too doughy, but I was outvoted and the rest of my family liked it. As per the kids menu , my daughter enjoyed the cheesy pita, which is essentially a quesadilla. The sesame noodles are a hard pass- it's not that it was bad, it's just not a flavor that a child would like. My kids both thought it tasted "sour". My son is actually whispering "bad" as I'm dictating this review. I enjoyed my red wine , but it is definitely a light pour; probably 6 oz. My husband really didn't like his pale ale that was recommended which he felt tasted more like a hazy . Service was peculiar, maybe our server was having a bad day. He brought a steak when we didn't order steak, which is fine but his attitude about it was strange and made it feel like it was our fault. After that, he just seemed moody. My son mentioned that he really didn't like the noodles, and he literally didn't say anything and darted away. Anyway, it's too bad because there aren't enough chic restaurants in the area. we enjoyed the food, but the price tag wasn't worth the experience and we probably won't come back. Food is super tasty here. The setting is pretty much a fancy upscale restaurant. But the bar tables with their pin wheel design is not conducive to cleaning in between diners as the food sort of falls in between the cracks. Most flavorful and unique dish for me was the Disco fries. Although the fries didn't come out piping hot, the awesome flavors of the meat and limey creamy sauce lent a solid punch and was a good start to the meal. Good size to share. The skirt steak was pretty solid. Flavors were good and the meat was tender. The dish came w some green onions. But needed something a little more to balance it out. And the branzino was decent sized, mostly deboned and came with an Asian/ Thai style of sweet and sour that wasn't over the top. Pretty nicely prepared. Cocktails on average are about $20. Unfortunately we were seated outdoor and it was quite windy and chilly despite the heat lamps. We tried the goat empanadas which were good the spicy salmon dip which was delicious. The wood fired cauliflower was just ok. For the main we had the short rib which was pretty large and the pickled salad accompaniment was spot on. Price is a bid on moderate high, as the total for two of us was ~150 without drinks. Service was hit or miss, there were long gaps between dishes, so much so that we opted not to wait for dessert. Before 4 PM, the afternoon tea service is only available at the bar counter, with an exclusive snack menu provided. The restaurant has a spacious parking lot with plenty of parking spaces. Lush green plants fill the courtyard, creating a serene little oasis. There is also a greenhouse where guests can stroll around after their meal if they are not in a hurry, which is such a delightful experience. The dipping sauces paired with the snacks are the restaurant's signature, each with a distinct flavor. We ordered three varieties in total. Been here many times and the service is a hit or miss. Food is a hit every time. The hosts at the front can sometimes give a cold, snooty attitude. The servers are sometimes on top of it and sometimes they disappear for awhile and we have to flag down a randomly passing employee. Came to try brunch. Everything was pretty good but of course the goat empanadas were a big hit for our friends, who were trying it for the first time. So good, we ordered another. We ended up getting a handful of dishes and the kitchen seemed a little confused so some of our orders got mixed up/forgotton. Coffee was light. Ambience is nice with all the greenery. I made a reservation for a party of 4 on a Monday evening at 7:45 pm, as that was the earliest option they had after 6 PM when I booked. The cocktails did sound unique but overall low alcohol content. It did take some time for our drinks to come out after ordering. This place is one where you share the dishes family style. We decided to get 2 appetizers, 1 plate, and 1 bigger plate to split amongst us 4: - Goat Empanadas (appetizer): For $20, you get 2 empanadas along with a green sauce to pair with it. We each had 0.5 empanadas along, which tasted good with the sauce. - Disco Fries (appetizer): For $24, you get a hefty bowl of loaded fries. These might've been my favorite to be honest. Since they are quite packed, you do find them to be quite filling compared to if you had just regular fries. - Hamachi Poke (small plate): $28. Kind of underwhelming to be honest. Did not really leave much of an impression. - Wood-Fired Mary's Chicken (bigger plate): $52 of chicken and some veggies. The chicken is quite tender. Didn't quite like that we had to do quite some work to cut the chicken off the bone but at least the meat came off quite easily and was not dry. The veggies were seasoned nicely with the tzatziki dip. Overall, I love the ambiance and vibes here but the food is quite expensive for small portions. I definitely want to come back for food, so this review is solely for their bar. First thing, the bar has a great selection of tequilas, whiskeys, and gin. The place is decorated with beautiful plants and gives off a modern feel. It's cozy and an excellent place for a good vibe with friends or coworkers. The bartenders are attentive and there's a good amount waiting to make drinks and serve which is a plus. You don't have to fight your way for a drink; there will be someone who will help. Me and my friend enjoyed their Goat espresso martini which had vodka, kumquat and their house-made espresso beans. The kumquat was an excellent mix which made the drink pop. The martini is originally supposed to have vsop cognac but unfortunately, they didn't have any in stock which is a bummer. I want to come back again for bites and try a few more cocktails. I just remembered something that I had to add to how amazing the service was. Usually when I dine solo I like to watch the tvs but they were playing women's softball on every screen at the bar when I arrived. There was yet another bartender, who I never even spoke to, but I think he could sense my confusion at the women's softball and saw that I perked up when they started posting the NBA playoff statistics during a break. Shortly after the TV screen closest to me switched to the NBA playoffs! I want to thank this young psychic/empath for helping me out. We had an amazing dinner here and loved the overall experience. The restaurant is airy with great design and feel in the newly renovated Treehouse Hotel. Loved everything we had. The spicy handroll dip with rice chips was fantastic! A real highlight. The avocado dip was just ok, nothing too special about that one for us. Everyone has brussel sprouts, but loved how theirs is a little different with extra flourishes and touches which really set it off as different and better. Bursting with flavor bits. The highlight was the sticky pork shank which is crispy, sticky, unctuous and incredible! Complemented with lettuce leaves and sauces to make flavor bombs for your mouth. Goat empanadas were just ok. Dessert similar to dinner was slightly innovative and different touches to what you'd expect. The passionfruit semi-freddo had so many little different items and flavors that made it really pop. We came here to celebrate a birthday. The meal was delicious and the service was amazing. We ordered the shrimp salad, the roasted corn, the sticky pork shank, and the wood fire branzino. The portions are large and excellent for sharing. For dessert, the restaurant celebrated the birthday with a comp dessert. We tried the yuzu posset and the mango sticky rice. Spectacular. Words cannot even begin to describe what a phenomenal enchanting experience this was for me and my girl friends on our special Galentines evening. Our server Leah rocked the house with her beautiful fun personality and sense of humor and product knowledge . And then the ambiance with the gorgeous plants - I was in love! The dim lighting was beautiful with the small lamps on the table. And then came the amazing food. Amazing is too bland of a word to describe how the food was . So so scrumptious, every last texture and burst of flavor. My friends and I ordered the avocado dip and plantain chips and chickpea fritters, and veggie empanadas as appetizers, we then shared the shank plate. For dessert we had the fruity sundae and the chocolate ice cream w whip. EVERYTHING from start to finish was phenomenal. And the service was great! I love how it's filling but where you're a comfortable full. The portions were generous and the presentation so colorful and stunning visually. Overall it was a nice place to eat and had good ambiance, but I felt the food was generally a bit overpriced. It felt like the kind of place that you book for corporate events and not a place that you would go to for any social events outside of work. I had the chickpea fritters which was basically chaat with chickpea cubes and my friend had the skirt steak which was a whole $42 for 6 oz!! We were looking forward to our group dinner at Valley Goat & finally we were able to reserve a dinner table. The staff is super friendly and sweet. The decor is gorgeous. We ordered a variety of drinks, and they were good. For dinner, we ordered a variety of apps and main dishes, such as veggie & chicken empanada, Plantain chips with dip, chickpea fritters, Chicken skewers, Brussels sprouts, Branzino, and wood-fired eggplant. The plantain chips and empanadas were super delicious. Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes weren't good at all and had absolutely no flavor :( We were disappointed with it. Especially when you add an extra charge for Ice cubes in an old-fashioned, there is a certain standard that comes with it!!! Looks like they had an off night! Valley Goat has certainly made waves for the dining experience and ambience. Upon arrival, the hostesses did not show any welcoming hospitality, and gave more of a look that I don't belong there. Had a table reserved for 5pm but waited about 15 minutes for a table (now I saw another reviewer experienced this today), but as there were plenty of open tables and others that arrived after us were seated instantly-- that left me baffled and craving for a cocktail. And that's just what we did. The server was great and provided excellent recommendations. I got the End of the Valley and Kosho Jacuzzi. Both were recommend by the server-- kudos on well done cocktails. I liked both but preferred the Kosho more for the tart flavor profile and salt rimmed glass. My friend got the Blush Spritz, which was on the sweeter side and spot on. Now for the food. The good: huge portion size and everything was cooked just right. A lot of options featuring local and fresh ingredients, farm to table style. Ambience is perfect, decor has got to be top 10 in the South Bay. Clearly, this is an important restaurant for the food scene in the South Bay area. The bad: the flavor profile of some dishes was an attempt on Southeast Asian fusion. As a Southeast Asian, some of the flavor combinations were confusing to me. One example is the branzino. The presentation was like a Filipino bangus dish. The Branzino itself was charred and tender, cooked just perfectly. However, the toppings were a strange mix. There were pickled red onions, fried garlic crisps, and cilantro, but then there was a ton of creamy sauce (maybe something with mayo?) which I was not a fan of. It seemed like the same sauce on the disco fries. I equate it to ordering a vinaigrette salad and then someone throws on a slab of kewpie mayo. This is just my suggestion to put less creamy sauce with a branzino or maybe on the side. The pork shank meat itself was also cooked perfectly. The meat fell off the bone and it was amazingly tender, but the flavor profile of the glaze was the kind used for Thai chili wings. The glaze felt too sweet for a roasted pork shank. Would've nailed it for me if it was more balanced with balanced salty/sweet taste than favoring a sweeter glaze flavor profile. The pork shank was favored over the branzino for us. TL, DR: good vibes and ambience, excellent cocktails. Hostesses could try a bit harder. We all had a long day, but waiting that long when there's empty seats and seeing others seated instantly is the opposite of welcoming and makes you feel ignored. The whole experience changes with how you are treated as a good paying customer. Great attentive servers, who give good recs. Flavor profile is the attempt of Southeast Asian fusion, which I can be critical of, and I was not fond of this particular combination of toppings on the branzino. I still think it's an important gem in the Bay Area food scene, especially in the South Bay. I would come back (not soon) for the cocktails and small plates, but not the mains. read more
