As soon as I saw that the tacos had ice berg lettuce and cheddar cheese I knew this would not be my taco spot. I tried the carne asada. It did not have the flavor profile I expect out of an asada taco, there was something vaguely reminiscent of teriyaki beef. The corn tortillas were ok. Definitely not house made but fresh enough. I used to go here every so often for their carne asada fries... But my BF introduced me to their chicken nachos!!!! Normally, I don't really enjoy shredded meats just because of the texture or how dry many places serve the meat... But Burrito Express' chicken nachos consists of super tender shredded chicken, melted cheese, lettuce & sour cream, over a bed of tortilla chips (seasoned with salt which I totally appreciate). I have been going to this restuarant since 2015, tonigh at 8:30pm 1/5/2022 i ordered my usual chicken quesadilla and this guy Omar took my order. I've eaten many great burritos in the bay and never have I had such a horrid experience as I did here. I ordered a carne asada burrito and a beef taco. I was starving and couldn't believe what I was eating. Thinking to myself, if you're into Jack in the Box 99 cent tacos then this place is for you. Granted tacos here are probably healthier for you but they taste like fast food. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally crave fast food but this taco was terrible. Came here for a quick bite with two of my friends after a drive to Stoneridge mall. Anyway, my friend told me about this place and their food was pretty good. We took his word for it and went here. It's located in a small plaza near Milpitas High School. I ordered the nachos (comes with chicken or beef, sour cream and lettuceno tomatoes?) and the other two get a burrito (chicken or beef). I was rather disappointed. How could you not have tomatoes? I looked at the size of the burritos that my friends were eating.not up to par. I can't say this place is superb, but it would have to do. I ate a few chips, but didn't finish the rest. The chips topped with the chicken, sour cream and lettuce were beginning to get soggy and the taste was so bland that the salsa didn't quite help it either. The guy at the front counter was friendly, plus he knows my friend because he comes here all the time. I asked for a take home menu, but the guy says, Well, we don't have a revised menu because of the price change so we're kind of working on it. I was thinking, what kind of business are you running if you don't have an up-to-date menu. I looked at their business card and surprise, surprisethey have a website. He tells me quickly, Oh yeah, the prices haven't been changed on the site either. After this little chit-chat, I don't want to come back here. As of the time of this writing (6/30/15), this place has 3.5 stars and that is about right. My good friend who lives in Milpitas claimed that this is the best Mexican place in the city. Unfortunately, I beg to differ. We had the taquitos and enchilada plate, and both were just ok. I can make food that meets or exceeds the taste of Burrito Express at home. Was in the area and needed something to eat. Contemplated between going here or the Filipino restaurant next door. Decided to go with the burrito place and I think I made the wrong choice. At first, I noticed the cheap prices (Most burritos were around $4-something/$5) so I ordered the carne asada burrito. Burrito was decent sized, but didn't really taste like anything. I practically had to drown it in hot sauce to give it some flavor. The burrito was rolled really loose and it fell apart when I was eating it so that annoyed me as well. I found out later on from my friend that Indian people actually own this place. In my opinion, its just a step or two above of Taco Bell. I was eyeing this place ever since I visited Joy Cups next door, and I haven't had a decent burrito since Vallartas in San Diego (if you ever have a chance to go down there, GET A BURRITO from there! Just your average burrito restaurant. The meat is cooked a little different as the carne asada burrito is made with a stew type of meat, rather than the dry version we all are familiar with. Still a good burrito. The service was great as they gave us free chips and salsa. They even cleaned up our table when we were done. 3.5 stars. I've been here about 10 times because it's next door to 24 hour fitness. The staff here is SUPERNICE. Whatever you need they'll get you. I always tip them my spare change. The food isn't bad at all either. It's not amazing, but it's a simple meal burritos - average. Chicken is better than carne asada here, but they are nice enough to do half/half meats here too for the same price. It has a bit too much cheese and bean fillers, but it'll get you full for like $4.50ish (something like that) chille relleno - YUM! it's like cheese and some special sauce on top of a bell pepper .. i'm not even a fan of bell peppers but it's good quesadilla - very solid here, get it with the chicken anything chili verde here is strong as well the chips and salsa is average, but hey it's free. horchata is good here too. Don't come here expecting authentic mexican food, but it still is good food. In fact, they were voted by Milpitas residents for having the best burrito, for about 5 years in a row. I've been coming here for about 7 years now to order their chicken nachos ($5) with extra lettuce (a normal order doesn't have enough greens for me). What I like about the nachos is the store made chips. They're not flimsy tortilla chips from a bag, they are freshly made with a good flavor and salted perfectly, and the portion size is big too. Chicken has a lot of flavor. They have different sauces laid out in containers on ice and I'm a big fan of their pico de gallo. There have been several times I've been there where the owner has offered to get a new batch of pico because the current container was running low. The place is run and owned by a Persian or Indian guy, and hires some students to help out on the register. The owner is really nice and interactive with his customers. However, I do avoid coming here on the weekdays between 3 and 6 due to the large amount of annoying high school boppers hanging around and in the restaurant because it is right behind the the high school. The ambiance is very casual but only seats about 15 people inside. They share a parking lot with the usually crowded 24 hour fitness and the reserved parking spaces for the restaurants (which include joycups and Little Caesars) can be very tight. Now I have only been here a couple times, both times loading up on a 1 million calorie chimichanga...but it's good, consistent and staff is SUPER friendly. My chimichanga is always perfectly crisp, loaded with tender meat and goodies. Salsa always taste fresh n spicy and again the staff is great. You feel warm, fuzzy and like you will have to be rolled out of there for under $6! Ya, win. Very nice place to go to. I've only eaten here about five times before this review and so far all my experiences were great. The service deserves 6 stars and the owner is like the friendliest dude I know. I use to only get Carne Asada burritos but tried something different yesterday. My friends and co-workers and I eat here a lot. The food is good, but not amazing, and is relatively inexpensive. The chimichanga and taco salad are my go-to's. We like to eat at Burrito Express because the food is prepped very quickly, is inexpensive, and has good value (good compromise between price, food quality, and portion size). Both the chimichanga and taco salad are somewhat large portion and can certainly fill you up. I'd rate Burrito Express 4 stars because of the good food and extremely good value. I would have given it 5 star if my food was one level. Not that the food is bad or anything. It is good, just not amazing.
