My coworkers were giving glowing reviews about Burrito Feliz and your Yelp reviews concurred, so today I made the hike to Ludlow between 11th and 12th Streets in the hidden gem of a concrete garden patio area where they were parked from 11am to 2pm. The line was long, the sun beat down, and shade was minimal. I would have knocked a star off for the 40+ minute wait from my place in line to when I left, but the food was just too good. I went with the Birria tacos and because I wanted to try something else as I wasn't about to make the effort to search them out elsewhere, I also had the chicken nachos sans sour cream. Got back to work and the opening of the bowls was exciting. Wallah! The three Birria tacos were so delicious each packed with mucho meat and cheese. Four quarters of lime was included. The first bite was incredible. Lots of flavor, and I almost needed a bib for the juices pouring out. The chicken nachos were just as exciting to open and see the colorful beans, jalapeños, cheese, and chicken with the homemade sauce with it. The meal also came with two sauce ramekins and a styrofoam cup of jus. The line as I said was long. They take only so many orders before making them and having the rest of the line wait until those orders were done. If you're not early, you'll have to prepare to stand around for your turn. Just some excellent Mexican food for lunch today. If I saw Burrito Feliz in a food truck festival or just near me, I'm definitely going to buy my meal there. They also have drinks which a lot of people were purchasing and street corn; both of which I did not try but want to. $15 for the Birria tacos and $13 for the chicken nachos today. $28 total. Finally got the opportunity to eat from this new Highly recommended food truck parked at Temple University Hospital on lovely North Broad in Philadelphia. I opted for the Chicken Burrito. Service was quick and friendly and the truck itself is well kept. My burrito was massive! However I wasn't too fond. My burrito was bland and several parts of the chicken was extremely tough making it impossible to chew and scared to consume. Never have I experienced chicken so tough. Both were seasoned so well- I ended up liking the chicken tinga tacos a smidge more than the birria but would JUMP at the chance to obtain any item from their menu. Burrito Feliz still hits the spot! Since my first review, I've tried their chicken tinga tacos and their churros, both of which are absolutely amazing. Their birria tacos still take the cake, but don't let that deter you from checking their other items. The chicken tinga tacos are classic, very filling, and incredibly flavorful when paired with their sauce. As with their birria ones, I'm usually only able to finish 1 to 1.5 tacos and I usually save the other half for later. As for the churros, they're sweet and have a great creamy, caramel filling. My family is obsessed with Burrito Feliz's food, and we literally stalk them to see when they'll be in the neighborhood. We'll even travel further out if we really need our burrito, nachos or churros fix. One thing that I really love about their food is that they put so much thought into the food. In my household we have carnivores, pescatarians and vegans which makes getting food from one place a bit of a challenge. You won't have that problem at BF, they have you covered. For the unfamiliar, birria is meat (typically goat, lamb, or beef), slow-cooked with classic spices and seasoning, including chilis, garlic, bay leaves, and cumin. Quesabirria is a modern adaptation of birria, consisting of tacos featuring a layer of crisp, melted chees, served beside a cup of consomme for dipping. Some friends and I recently had the opportunity to enjoy birria from Burrito Feliz's truck at Love City Brewing (aside -- LCB has a stellar HH deal: $4 for any brew on draught). The mint-green truck was unmistakable, featuring Mexico-inspired sketches and a minifridge below the ordering window. Although Burrito Feliz has multiple protein options (including vegetarian options), my eyes and heart immediately locked onto the Birria Tacos. We ordered, then scanned the Venmo code to beside the window. Early on this weeknight, there were only a handful of folks ahead of us, translating to just a few minutes wait. Burrito Feliz's rendition of quesabirria utilized two tortillas per taco, fried crispy with a layer of cheese between. This was featured on JL Jupiter's YouTube channel, so I jumped on IG and saw that they were going to be at Attic Brewery in Germantown today, so I got super excited and planned my arrival. Parking: A lot at this location and street parking. It's hard to get out of the lot, so pack patience. Food: Barria Taco and Burrito: The meat was tender and a healthy portion. The flavor level wasn't bad, but I would have liked a little more, as the flavor didn't linger on my tastebuds. The consomme dipping sauce had flavor, but I would have like to taste a little more. I added seasonings when I got home and also dipped tacos in the hot sauce, and it was yummy 2. Blackened shrimp, Taco: This was good; however, I would have liked bigger shrimp. 3. Street corn: omg!! Tasty! It was cooked just right and just enough cheese. I sat in the car and ate this because it would not have tasted good cold. 4. Quacamole and chips: fresh and good 5. Really been wanting to try this place ever since my girlfriend tried this place out multiple times. It's my first time ever eating birria tacos, so I was really excited. We ordered birria tacos and churros for $20, and they were both delicious. The birria tacos were crunchy and juicy on the inside. They were pretty good, but they kinda reminded me of the taco seasoning at Taco Bell. The flavor was there, but I wished it was more savory if anything. The consomé was the perfect addition to the taco if it could only adhere to the taco like a sauce or gravy (definitely not traditional at all). The hot, mayo-looking sauce was really good though. I found myself having to dunk the taco in that all the time to get the extra kick and savoriness to it. The churros were pretty good too. I'm not a big fan of them because they're so overrated and dry. But this one had a caramel filling which was nice. Still not a big fan of churros but was craving something sweet that afternoon. Visited on a rainy day while the truck was parked at Wissahickon Brewing Company. It's a great set up! There is outdoor seating and plenty of parking. I loved being able to call in my order ahead of time. When we arrived, our food was timed perfectly for pickup. I ordered the elote, guac and birria tacos with consommé. The elote was delicious, the guac was so creamy (side note: it is served in the avocado skin! How cute). The birria tacos were crispy and cheesy and meaty and the consommé was super flavorful. The ratio of meat to crispy shell was perfect. Besides these specials, they have an extensive menu that looked enticing. First time we went right at 3 and the line was around the block. We left. We came back on a Sunday and came right at opening. Ordered a bunch of tacos. Beef barria, shrimp barria, regular shrimp tacos, regular chicken tacos, and elote. I would have to say the shrimp barria with the consome was by far the most flavorful taco. The beef was a tad on the drier side, but after pouring the consome over (like a lot of it), it was delicious. The chicken one was also a litttle dry, but the green and red sauce they provided helped. Now, for the elote, make sure to order these. I can est literally 4 corns to myself. They're soooo good!!! The tortillas are first covered in the amazing meat braising liquid before being fried after being filled with mounts of cheese and perfectly cooked beef. My search for the best birria tacos is over. This place is the best. I follow the Instagram for its location and hours. Most of the time it is available at the corner of 7 and McKean from 3-9. I got there at 3 on a drizzly afternoon. There were already a couple of people waiting for their order. Besides the birria tacos, they have guacamole and chips. Very friendly and welcoming. My order was ready probably in 10 minutes. Much faster than the other popular birria tacos food truck several blocks away. The tacos have two layers of crispy tortilla with caramelized melted cheese adding umami to the tacos. It automatically comes with cheese so if you don't want cheese I recommend that you tell them when you place the order. The cheese are evenly distributed and melts on tortilla perfectly, not too much to create a glob of cheese. The tacos are filled with good amount of tender beef with finely chopped onions. The tortilla is completely soaking the flavor of the consommé already drizzled on it during the cooking process. The moment of truth: the consommé flavor. It's amazing, balanced flavor with a subtle heat, very refreshing, and don't forget to squirt the lime. I keep on dunking the tacos in it. If you like more heat to your tacos, they have it covered by providing creamy chipotle sauce in the bag. There's also some shredded beef in the consommé. Not too greasy, I don't want to waste any of it. Maybe make a ramen with the leftover consommé. I saw an Instagram post of ramen with birria consommé. Guacamole is fresh with enough heat from the chopped jalapeño with chopped tomato and red onion. It comes in a paper coffee cup with a lid. What I like about this truck is the consommé and the guacamole are not in a styrofoam cup. The tacos and the chips are in styrofoam container. TLDR: Get your ass to Burrito Feliz and order birria tacos. Get 2x whatever you think you'll probably want to eat. You're Welcome. Long form: If you're an average taco consumer, you know there are two kinds. There are the kind you've seen at TGI Fridays and Chilis and, perhaps, Taco Bell and you know all these suck and deserve a different name. The second type is usually found at a taco truck or a taqueria, which isn't authentic unless there are colorful, paper, birthday party-esque decorations, and some type of mariachi-esque sounding music in the background. These tacos are awesome, abundant in Philly, and easily searchable. If you've not come across quality versions of these, here are ways to ensure you're getting the real deal: if they come wrapped in two (2) corn tortillas, that's a good sign if they are small enough that you could eat at least 4, that's a good sign if they come garnished with ONLY cilantro, onion, and perhaps little radishes, that's a good sign if you're offered a mild green salsa and an asshole burning red salsa, that's a good sign if you're speaking into a truck, that's a good sign if anything "hip" is offered, thai curry, soy protein, korean gojujang, beyond meat, cauliflower, etc. GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE! if nobody appears to be Mexican at all, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE! if you're offered ketchup at any time in the meal, GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE! All of this said, there are a few other types of tacos worth trying before you die. Birria tacos are on that list, and, somewhat recently, easily accessible in Philadelphia!! These have been around forever at South Philly Barbacoa and she is the OG. You MUST check them out if you have not already. Birria, which usually translates to "goat" in English, refers to shredded and braised meat (typically beef, at least in my Philly taco experience). These tacos are also often fried (tortilla and all) in the birria meat's oil, so the resulting taco is crispy, flavorful (even the tortilla itself), and insanely delicious. Anyone who's gotten drunk and made the regrettable decision of visiting a taco bell knows a crunchy taco just crumbles (while tasing like old cardboard) turning a shitty taco into a taco salad. This is NOT the case with these tacos- they crunch in all the right ways, leaving the consumer satisfied, majestified, and enthralled. As if this all weren't enough, each order of birria tacos also comes with a dipping cup of the braising broth (consome) to dip the tacos! And... (yes, there's more!)... the tacos come w/ melted cheese, fiery asshole burning salsa, and a bunch of napkins! I am a taco expert, but not a tech expert, so I was surprised to initially find these tacos on Instagram. My foody wife informed me that IG is now a place to find food- I didn't know that before! Anyway, we live on 7th and South and decided to walk to Burrito Feliz for these Birria tacos. If it's not evident by my 3000 word post, the tacos were phenomenal and we will be back! They were phenomenally better than Barbacoa's (sorry barbacoa). On the walk down, we passed two other trucks (one which had a 2 hour-ish line) and at least two restaurants offering birria. I'm sure those are worth a taste as well, but I cannot imagine them being any better than Burrito Feliz. Stumbled upon this amazing food truck when it came to my apartment complex recently. Birria is everywhere now but I have not had any as delicious as these. The customer service is fast (despite being busy with a line down the block). Usually I am not a shrimp taco fan but these were cooked perfectly and may have changed my opinion on them :). Stopped by this truck today for the birria tacos at 7th and McKean. These were amazing! 3 large stuffed double wrapped beef tacos with cheese and onions with side of consommé. Includes a great hot sauce and lime wedges. Just salivating fabulous bangin beef tacos... read more
