My cells felt revived from the nutrients and joyful from the taste with the other veggies/fruits. A juice that elevates the actual taste of the main ingredient. She was the star and I would go back for her. Chilaquiles verdes hit my fix if you're looking for it. I would describe the flavors and portions as "just right." Decent option if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Muted flavors, but not absent. The right combo is there. I am a saucy girl who likes a stronger taste, so I would have liked more sauce and lime (which I'm sure I could ask for). The cafe chocolate was also decent. Some love it. I want it richer. We started off with drinks, and got the breakfast burrito and a birria taco special. Our meals were great, especially the breakfast burrito. They are crispy and not overly sweet. The waiter even boxed the leftovers for me with extra chocolate. I also came here with friends for Valentine's Day. They were giving away free sangrias to anyone old enough having dinner there, and also had a Valentine's special that came with an additional glass of wine. I got the tacos al pastor, one friend got birria tacos (not on the menu, but they made it for her), and another friend got the steak and potatoes Valentine's special. All the meats that came with our dinners were tender and juicy, and the sangria was sweet. The drink wasn't as good, but just off the strength of this crispy and sweet yet spicy tacos, I will be returning. They were the best shrimp tacos I've tasted hands-down. I found Cafe y Chocolate on a list of Latin restaurants this morning after watching a segment on the news. I was excited to hear that Philly planned a Latin Restaurant Week from September 30th until October 4th. I immediately jumped online to find places I would visit. Cafe y Chocolate made the list, so I decided to stop by on my way to work. I arrived to find a small place tucked in between some our buildings. There was a nice white, black, and yellow sign with the name of the establishment. Upon entering, I was greeted by a warm woman who asked if I needed a menu? I saw one posted in front of the coffee machinery. She also asked if I was interested in food or drinks. I told her I would like to try both. I looked over the menu and found so much I wanted to try, but I knew I wouldn't be able to eat everything I wanted, so I went with the Bistec tacos, caramel churros, a limonada, and latte. The wait time wasn't bad. I had my food in 15 mins. I got back to my car and immediately tried the churros. Maaaaaaan, when I tell you these were some of the best churros I ever had, I mean it! They were soft, light, creamy and savory. The caramel oozed from the churro with each bite. It was hard not to finish all 6. I had to stop so I could try my tacos. I opened the container to find 3 beautifully decorations tacos. They were completely full of ingredients. The steak, guacamole, onions, cheese, were amazing! I made a little song while taking each bite. I could only eat 2 bc I was so full. The last taco will be devoured tonight. I will say, the freshness of the tacos and the flavors of the ingredients were some of the best I had ever tasted. Cafe y Chocolate set the bar high for the other places on my list this week. As you enter and walk up a couple of steps and past the coffee shop prep area. The warm-toned walls are decorated sparingly with artwork, including a series of ink portraits and a square charcoal still-frame. The fireplace and exposed-brick mantle are repurposed into a bookshelf complete with trinkets and merch. Pull-apart faux-wood tables are paired with standard black-framed chairs and wooden benches. Spanish classics play pleasantly in the background. We began our late lunch with an Iced Mexican Mocha and Horchata. The mocha ran strong, packing two shots of espresso and balanced out with the spiced Oaxacan chocolate. The horchata maintained a strong cinnamon flavor with a subdued sweetness. For eats, with opted for a Chorizo Burrito and Molletes (open-faced Portuguese rolls topped with beans and cheese) with Carnitas. The burrito appeared unassuming upon its large serving plate, but the flour tortilla was generously filled, mostly with the meat and melty mozzarella (the lettuce and tomatoes were served atop the burrito instead of within). The chorizo was flavorful without being overwhelmingly greasy. Meanwhile, the molletes were served in a picturesque flower pattern, with a large mound of flavorful carnitas in the middle. The Portuguese roll was buttery and pillowy, while the rich queso Chihuahua was perfectly melty without becoming a liquid mess. Both entrees were well-complemented by three sauces (green, red, hot), all delicious. My favorite was the sweet, savory, and spicy red sauce. I felt right at home with the pleasant and attentive service. At $45 for brunch and beverages, Cafe y Chocolate seems a bit of a premium for Mexican fare, but a major steal among the Philly brunch scene. read more

I have had this place bookmarked for ages, literal ages, and it took a pandemic for me to finally talk myself into driving to the city to check it out on a whim! As soon as I walked through the door, a server approached and asked if I ordered takeout. My order was ready and packaged up on a table, and it took no time to pay and head out! There's a real legit espresso set-up, so if I lived in the area I would definitely recommend popping in just for a coffee! I tried a fancier drink my first time, an Iced Coconut Latte, that was recommended by a very friendly employee over the phone. Another good one is the Iced Mexican Mocha made with real mexican chocolate. Both great. Food is so good as well! Highly recommend the Molletes - trust me. It sounds plain on paper (pieces of baguettes topped with refried beans and optionally your choice of meat, and a side of pico), but it's so yummy, and I've not seen it on many menus!
