I've l ived in the area for 30 yrs. and have a choice of 20 food joints that serve some form of Mexican food within a three mile radius. The food here has always been consistently good. They have a hardy assortment of breakfast burritos to pick from on a overcast central coast morning. One will easily get you past lunch. They still have there full menu pretty much but the hours have been shorten due to the pandemic. Seeking out this place for the first time could be a challenge, in a "strip-mall alley way" as I see it. Hang in there, look for signage. Why not five stars? Salinas Hidden Gem! We are always greeted by name, and a very friendly welcome. The restaurant is located in Old Town Salinas down a small alley way, it's almost like you need the secret word or handshake to know it's location, but once you know you know!! It's a small restaurant with breakfast and lunch hours only. It's very clean with indoor and outdoor dining. They do a ton of take out business. The food is always cooked to order and very flavorful and fresh. Hands down the best salsa ever!! Everything I've ordered off the menu from breakfast burritos to chilaquiles and any other traditional Mexican meal are delicious, and doesn't disappoint. I really like this place in old town Salinas! It's a small little place, with great menudo and chilaquiles. These have been the two things I've had from here. Service was not that slow. It was okay. The pork was flavorful, but I had to add the salsa to add a little bit more flavor and spice. From what I saw from my friends, these burritos are huge. The location is inside of an alley but there should be plenty street parking. There are both inside and outside seating. The menu has a few weekend only items which I got menudo. The portion is huge for one person and it is very tasty with true ingredients. The service wasn't the fastest but they also make each item by order so it was expected. Delicioso! This is a very small, family run place that makes great traditional food. I love the nopales and eggs with freshly made corn tortillas. They serve cinnamon coffee that is invigorating and soothing at the same time. It's a welcome way to start the day. Lunch is also good. Many choices. I love the super carne asada burrito with nopales or avocado. It is stuffed with flavor and is sooo filling. They have a banquet area, some outside tables, a dining area, and can cater your event. I got a tray of their excellent enchiladas to share at a party and everyone raved. You will love the friendly service and the food is very good. My sister and I found Burrito King down the alley in downtown Salinas and now go there regularly. Clarity and Jose are wonderful and kind and the food is like homemade. We have tried a few menu items but keep coming back for the Nopales and Eggs. It's a big portion with homemade tortillas, frijoles and potatoes. That and a cup of the cafecito is a great way to start the day. Burrito King is a little hard to find, but once you do you'll be back. Burrito King is located down an alley, but not in a sketchy you-might-get-stabbed kind of way! Our group of four was greeted warmly and seated quickly by a little Hispanic lady. We all got breakfast burritos with our meat of choice and extra crispy ("ex crisp" for short) potatoes--a trend I apparently started. We were pretty satisfied with our selections. I personally had the chorizo and egg and I liked that you can taste the bits of chorizo rather than it being indistinguishable and "one with the egg" like some places prepare it. I know, that's deep for a breakfast burrito review, but it's sincere. I promise!
