The family went to Burtons in Hingham for the second time and it was as good as the first. The layout is good for small and large parties, with very attentive service. The drinks were mixed well - not a heavy pour, but enough to make sure they were not giving you more ice like other places. Started with the bread - warm, fresh and everyone liked it. Calamari, plenty to go around - warm and devoured quickly. The main courses - Classic burger, short rib grilled cheese, salmon romesco, and superfood with chicken - you will not go wrong with any of these choices, nor will you go hungry. Absolutely fantastic all around. Highly recommend the short rib grilled cheese and fries - not life changing, but close. Wrapped up with some dessert to go - see will not go hungry - and was a nice treat later that night. Love this restaurant. They have the best Greek salad on earth, and I've been to Greece. But if you want bread there is a charge, which in my opinion is a bad move by ownership. I'll buy the bread, but then not have a second glass of wine or dessert. So the restaurant pays for the bread regardless, not to mention the missing Yelp star. read more

My first experience with this restaurant was very disappointing. The lunch menu, if that's what is was, was very pricey. The server was really nice and friendly, but a little rushed. Food was good. I'm in the habit of giving servers cash instead of tips included with the credit card. I was not aware that this restaurant preferred cashless payments. When the bill came, I figured the 20%, lined out the tip line and paid the bill of approximately $46 With the credit card. I left the server with a $12 cash tip. Later when I checked my card, I saw that a 20% tip was added. Basically, I guess the server got an almost 50% tip. Great for her. Not happy that I was forced to pay $66 for lunch. The food was good and the server was nice, but not worth the money. No, I won't be going back there again and I won't be recommending that restaurant to my friends. read more

Been going here for dinner and lunch for years and always a wonderful experience. Being able to make a reservation is perfection! Staff always great and weekday manager (woman) on during lunch makes you feel welcome and they do a great job with seating requests (one person is hard of hearing so we ask for particular seating). With that said, the real star is the gluten free food (general tso cauliflower is a must try)! Today we tried brunch and I had GF donuts and wow wow wow! The French toast was incredible! Got there for lunch on a Sunday around 1.. there was a 45 minute wait but there were so many shops around we didn't mind. I got a call in fifteen minutes letting me know someone ahead of us cancelled. :) we asked about social distancing and Covid- the hostess was so kind and told us the differences between hightop at the bar and dining room. She didn't seem annoyed at us asking so that was super pleasant. We started out with the hot and dirty martinis which are a normal martini but with cherry pepper juice. I LOVED IT. Mom didn't and she didn't want to ask for another one but the bartender insisted. I thought that was on another level great. For an app we got the firecracker shrimp (to die for). I wish I got that for an entree because it was so good. Not spicy at all - would have been better with a wasabi ranch though. . We split a burger and it was delish. Came here on a Tuesday around 1pm and place was pretty busy. We ordered: Pomegranate Martini - filled to the rim and I love that they do not skimp out on the alcohol, you can actually taste it. The martini glass was pretty sticky no matter where I held it though. Point Judith Calamari - fried to perfection and the sauce it came with was tasty. Also came with some fried jalapeños which I thought were pickles at first. Philly Spring Roll - was expecting the beef to be shaved but it was sliced into strips. Flavor was good. Maxx Burger - burger was nothing special, tasted like a typical burger but extra points because it was actually cooked to how I asked. Our waitress Madeline was also very attentive. No complaints. I was in the area on business and looking for low carb dining options. This was the best meal I had while in the area. I went with a steak and salad. They were quite busy when I was there. They are part of a shopping area that was doing quite well that day. The amount of people out and about was more than I'd seen in quite some time. The weather was lovely and it was nice to be out. The service was fine. I felt a bit rushed but that might just be me coming from a more relaxed environment in the Midwest. I've been rushed like that in Manhattan and this is no big city so I would have to say there was no need for it. I'm assuming my server was just stretched a bit thin that afternoon. First time visitor and everything our party ordered looked delicious but my order of the Harvest Bowl was amazing! Came here with friends and my dog. They were kind enough to provide us outdoor seating and had an enticing selection of food. Our waiter was attentive, kind, and had a great charisma about him. This night was all about giving Burtons another try after we had a not so pleasant visit back in February. The drink was amazing. Spinach artichoke dip was awesome. I asked for pasta and I specifically asked for it NOT to be al dente and it still was. ( for medical reason I can't eat al dente pasta ) After I mentioned it to the waiter that it wasn't cooked as I asked she said "Oh Ok" and then offered me a side dish??? I worked for restaurants as a manager and this would have never been acceptable. At least she could of asked to make me another plate. Or talked to the manager to come out apologize and offer a free dessert or something. Very disappointed as I paid $36 for a plate that I didn't even eat. Burtons will definitely be on our list of restaurants never to visit again. And sadly to say of course all of our friends will hear about it as well. read more

My brother and I went here for brunch recently. The waitstaff asked if we had any allergies and I told them that I was allergic to crustaceans. For an appetizer, we ordered the buffalo chicken dip. When the appetizer came, the waitress explicitly told us that it was prepared w/o any shellfish interaction. The dip was made with grilled chicken, blue cheese, cheddar cheese, and buffalo sauce. It was not too spicy and the chicken was tender. The dip was yummy. The accompanying tortilla chips was also fresh and crispy. The complimentary rolls that came before the appetizer were also warm and soft. For my entree, I got the wild mushroom risotto. Again, when my entree came, the waitress said that it was prepared w/o any shellfish interaction. It was very thoughtful of them! The risotto was made with wild mushrooms, peas, goat cheese, and lemon butter sauce. The portion was pretty big for a risotto entree. It was delicious but thought they put a tad too much of goat cheese. It was kind of an expensive brunch but the food was wonderful. Overall, I give this place a 4.5 stars. First time visitor. I was here with my family for my mother's birthday lunch. Nice decor, mediocre taste. I was excited and looking forward to entrees I saw on the menu but unfortunately certain entrees were only seasonal. Let me preface this by saying that the bread paired with the butter was amazing, the bread could've been a tad more warm and soft but tasty nonetheless! I had the lobster shrimp pasta, the dish was extremely underwhelming and I was dissatisfied. I tried a bit of the salmon romesco and it was not bad, but also wasn't a party in my mouth. The crab crusted haddock was the best dish on the menu and was good at best. My mother had the key lime pie and for someone who hates key lime anything, I was impressed. I can't say coming back is completely off the table, but I can name 100 places I can go to with these same prices for much better food. read more

Talk about an amazing experience. When I walked in the door I was greeted by the friendly hostess. I got a great window seat with the waitress, Cortney, who was nothing short of amazing! She never missed a heat and was accommodated every request, regardless of how weird or demanding they were. Now, onto the food... starting with the bread, the butter was melted and drizzled throughout the crispy tender loaf. The tavern chili, is to die for, it was one of the best chili's I've ever had with scallions, cheese, and a jalapeño sour cream to add a little bit of spice. Now on to the main, my caesar salad was perfectly dressed with a crispy grilled piece of salmon on top. I love Burton's and have for years but the front of the house needs more training. When you call and do take out the hosts seem like they are bothered talking to you. When you emphasize certain ways you like things cooked or ask for extra dressings, it's always forgotten. When going there lately I feel like they would like to be anywhere but at the host stand. It's to the point I don't even like going anymore because the impression it leaves when you first walk in is off putting. I've been here several (forgettable) times over the years and it seems to get worse with each visit. Recently my husband and I came here for lunch. I ordered the hot & dirty martini which was just ok. We split the general tso's cauliflower appetizer. It definitely had that general tso flavor and made me want chinese food - is that a good or bad thing for a restaurant that's trying to be on the upscale side? I'm not sure but doesn't seem right. Then we split the classic burger with rosemary parm fries. It was nice they split it for us on two separate plates. However, the burger itself was one of the worst I've had in a long time. We ordered it medium rare and it came out charred on the outside like a hockey puck and cooked way past medium rare on the inside. It was very dry and all you could taste was the burnt char on the outside. The bun was thick and oversized, making the bread an over-powering ingredient. Our bill came out to $100 which is crazy for splitting meals at lunchtime. There are so many better options in the area. read more

So I wanted to love this place.. Atmosphere was absolutely phenomenal. Not only did I love the restaurant but I also love where it was located! Waitress was great she attended to us well, dealt with a complicated order and still managed to nail it all. As far as the food... man it was off. The cauliflower appetizer was delicious would give it a firm 8/10. But the steaks.. super under done. I always ask for medium, about 155 Degrees is perfect! Unfortunately this was at the 145-148 mark. A little less than medium rare. Which I understand is most preference but just not mine. But when paying for a $36 steak just want it to come out like asked. Overall will have to give this a second try was really busy and a Saturday so giving the benefit of the doubt!
