I like vodka sauces that are heavier on the cream than the tomato - and when it initially came out looking more deep red than pink I got nervous it would be more tomato based. Nope - it was creamy goodness. The calamari was also insanely good. The marinara they served with the calamari was almost cheesy. It was awesome. Finally, a tasty bottle of dry Pinot Grigio white wine! This place is kid friendly, and appears to be locals more so than tourists. BRUNCH REVIEW: Really tasty comfort food. I ordered an omelette with extra cheese, only the find out they give "plenty" of cheese (so I retracted the extra cheese request). I usually give that only because most restaurants give very little. Bus stop is probably a 3.5 but I'll be generous and bump it up. It was literally the first eatery we ran into on our way home from the heart of the far West Village. The place is essentially a diner that will also pick up your credit card. The main waiter (who might be a manager/owner) was definitely a throwback NY character, but he steered me toward the Reuben sandwich (pastrami and sauerkraut on white bread, with some mustard on the side.) A decent sandwich, though definitely not on my top 5 pastrami list. My wife had a chicken wrap that came with lentils and she seemed to enjoy that. The homey, local ambiance is the best reason to come here, and it would be perfect for a quick bite/coffee with friends or family. Came here with some friend to grab lunch after a day of walking around. Place is small and a a bit tight, but not a deal breaker. We got the Stuffed Grape Leaves to share and I really enjoyed them - first time trying these. Then I got a Grilled Chicken and Goat Cheese which was average. Not very good since all the ingredients were separated and each bite was missing something. I'm willing to give it another shot and get something else, but wasn't impressed with my first visit! read more

Bus Stop Cafe in Greenwich Village has been there for over 40 years!! My dad lived around the corner on Bank street. When I would meet him, we usually went to Bus Stop Cafe for breakfast. Great place for eggs. They also serve lunch and dinner. I went here for all of my teen years and many times after when I was an adult. Good food and great memories...check it out. read more

Accidentally stumbled upon this place with some friends a few weeks ago when we were starving and ended up away from an area with a ton of restaurants. The food here was delicious and the atmosphere felt very homie. Great place to have some grub with some friends. The menu did have vegetarian options but not as many as there are at other places in the area given how big the menu was. The food itself was delicious! The lighting in the restaurant was a little too dark making it a little difficult to make your way around the building, but it was a cute spot and I would go again! Stumbled upon this place recently while in desperate need for dinner. The mozzarella sticks were yummy... but that's where the good food stopped. My date and I had soup first, he had the French onion soup and I had butternut squash; I found both soups to be really under seasoned and fairly bland. I got the special lamb shank. The lamb shank itself was ok, cooked decently well but again not much flavor, but the side which was some kind of orzo and greens, was terrible. Maybe if the lamb shank had been amazing the bad side wouldn't have mattered as much, but I ended up not eating it at all. I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3 because service was really excellent -- the waitress was kind and attentive, noticed I wasn't eating my dinner and removed it from the bill without us having to ask. read more

A Sign of Life This friendly, inviting, and community type café still thrives. What I (and maybe others too) miss is the original NJ bus stop sign that was part of its visible outdoor décor. The sign reminded everyone especially New erseyites that NJ Transit as it is known now was once (until 1980) called Public Service Coordinated Transport (PSCT). My friend and I stopped here for dinner the other night -- we were in the area and hungry, walked by, and liked the menu. My friend is a vegetarian and they had multiple options for her, which is always a great start. For dinner, I had the spinach ravioli, which was delicious. It was quite filling -- I almost couldn't finish! My friend also got a pasta dish, which had broccoli. She seemed to enjoy it as well. The waiter spilled an entire drink in my girlfriend's lap (it happens!) and the manager was incredibly rude and started arguing/bartering with us (and also saying that the drink was never spilled) when we politely asked for the price of the drink to be taken off of our bill. The floor manager thought that was hilarious (it is, ice cream before noon on a weekday?) and the vibe of the place was cheerful and fun. Me and my family were walking around and picked the bus stop. Very nice and welcoming atmosphere. The waiters were very nice and attentive. I ordered the penne a la vodka with chicken. The Bus Stop Cafe is a cute little cafe/diner type place in the West Village that serves simple yet satisfying meals. I stopped by for a quick brunch since it looked like a nice cozy lil' place to fuel up for the day. it's really quaint on the inside but I just had to sit outside since it was such a nice day. The menu is fairly large especially when you compare it to the size of the place. I ordered the 2-egg special with corned beef hash. It was carb overload since it's basically the 2 egg special (eggs and potatoes) PLUS corned beef hash but it still hit its spot. Next time I'll pay more attention to the menu. Lots of great looking plates went by me in particular the sandwiches and wraps here look good. While the food was decent, an extra star has to be awarded to the accommodating staff who bend over backwards to ensure a great meal for all diners - from young couples, to retirees, to your pooch. Friendly and speedy service plus good food make Bus Stop Cafe a great place for brunch. read more

Came here when indoor dining was closed. It was a cold rainy day, but they had a nice sheltered area, good heating lamps, and blankets draped over the chairs ready for you to use. It was great. The service was fast, and my eggs benedict, coffee and orange juice were pretty good. We did get a dirty spoon at one point. read more

While waiting 2+ hours for a table at The Spotted Pig, we ventured here to get our food and drinks on. I am so glad we did! Not only did they accommodate all twelve of us nicely, they actually gave us all SEPARATE CHECKS, without any complaints! That is an unheard of miracle in the city and truly, I will never forget this place because of that. This place will always remain the place that "gave us all separate checks...with an amazing attitude." The service was friendly, efficient and helpful. The seating and decor was cozy and cute. As for the food, I only tried their calamari but it was very crispy and delicious. And what a large portion for only an $8 appetizer - I had to ask others to help me eat it and that's a first! DISABLED PEOPLE ARE NOT WELCOME HERE. My friend is legally blind and has other disabilities, and has a service dog without whom she would not be able to be independent. I met her at Bus Stop for dinner this week--a place we go often. When I arrived, her service dog was lying under the table. He sat up (NOT stood up) to greet me and then lay back down under the table--where he stayed for almost 2 hours while we ate and chatted. She got up to leave, and he stood up and lightly shook himself (after lying down for almost 2 hours)--an action in which he touched no one but me. On their way out, a waitress accidentally stepped on his paw and he yelped, but did not react in any other way. As we got outside, the owner of the restaurant confronted my friend and said, "That is not a well-trained service dog. If you want to come back here, you have to sit outside on the terrace." She asked what he was talking about, and he said a trained service dog should not get up to greet anyone, should not shake himself, and should not bark. She pointed out that a waitress stepped on the dog's foot, and the owner said, "No, she didn't." My friend said to ask the waitress. He said, "I don't have to ask her, I saw it. Plus he got when he shook himself, everything went flying." I asked him what went flying. He said, "everything." I asked what. Was anything knocked off any table? Was anything knocked over? Was any person touched by the dog? He said, "Everything, everything went flying." My friend said it's not up to him to decide what is or is not a trained service dog, and it is illegal to deny someone with a service dog access to a restaurant. He said, "No it's not." I said it was. He said, "No it's not. And he barked, and he everything went flying." And when I asked again what went flying and where, he again said "everything"--and did that thing people do when they double down on a lie: he kept repeating that it wasn't illegal to deny us access, the waitress had not stepped on the dog's foot, the dog was not well-trained, and had barked. I finally said to him, "You're a liar," and he replied "Don't curse at me." I asked, "When did I curse? What curse word did I use?" and he said, "You cursed just now. You called me a liar." And he repeated that we may only eat on the restaurant's terrace in the future To set things straight, it is illegal to deny us assess to any part of the restaurant (https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/publications/serviceanimals-english.pdf). And lest the owner attempt to continue lying in a reply to this post, my friend's service dog has been with her in far better restaurants than Bus Stop, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, ridden in an ambulance with her, sat with her all night in a hospital emergency room, gone to the doctor, dentist, visited my home (and I have cats!) and has never had a problem. We are contemplating whether we will file a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office, but in the meantime we have no intention of ever returning to Bus Stop and supporting the abelist agenda of its ignorant and lying owner. read more
