I also distinctly remember the Chrysanthemum Salad, buried under what feels like an unreasonable and therefore perfect amount of shaved Parmesan. Both dishes capture what Don Angie does so well: familiar Italian American food made inventive without losing the basic pleasure that made people love it in the first place. We ordered an assortment of appetizers to share, making it easy for everyone to sample several things from the menu. For my main course, I went with the ribeye, which was cooked to perfection. Dessert was the highlight of the meal for me. The "Death by Chocolate" was outstanding--a rich chocolate mousse, a caramelized layer of crispy sugar over it, and topped with a dollop of whipped cream. It was the perfect way to finish the evening. Walking into the restaurant, the first thing that caught my attention was the impressive 50-foot zinc bar. The spacious dining room, designed by the Rockwell Group, has an industrial-chic feel, with white subway-tiled walls, reclaimed wood, and large windows. There's also a classic black-and-white photo booth in the basement, which adds a fun touch. The menu is broad enough to appeal to almost everyone, ranging from a raw seafood bar and prime steaks to burgers, mac 'n cheese, and popular brunch dishes. There's an extremely racist and offensive couple that comes here quite often. We were seated next to them and the minute we sat down they started yelling profanities, calling my friends racial slurs and telling us to "kill ourselves" for "infecting their neighborhood." The Bus Stop Café is a great restaurant, however, management told us this couple regularly frequents this spot and are not prohibited from coming back. This was some of the harshest harassment we've experienced in this city and we will not be returning to this restaurant because of it. I hope that management sees how harmful this particular couple is and does not allow them to come back ever again. read more

The strawberry pancakes were good, fruit cup was fresh and the fried chicken with johnnycakes was good as well. Our server checked on us and seemed to be in a hurry to take our plate away. I wasn't even finished with my drink when he removed it from the table, and he tried to take my unfinished plate as well. As soon as we were finished eating, our check was brought to us, and not two minutes after paying the bill, another employee came to our table and told us that they had a large party waiting at the door and they needed our table. I was shocked and mortified at this, as so much of our time at The Grey Dog was spent waiting for water and drinks, and now we were being hurried out the door. We were easy customers - we ordered our food and drinks without special requests and didn't complain about anything. The entire time we spent at the restaurant was less than an hour and a half, and about 1/3 of that time was spent waiting for water and drinks. It certainly was NOT our fault that they had a party waiting, and to rush customers out like this is unpardonable. We will NEVER return here, and with all of the other great restaurants in the area, it will be easy to find other restaurants that treat their customers with kindness and respect.

It is brunch so it's hard to go very wrong. I think they're just in a good location. Restaurant is pretty small and the decor is shabby country diner. Go if you're around and can just walk in. Otherwise, plenty of other spots around!

I've been a regular customer for a while. No more. Today I places a deliver order. I never got it…read more Why not? Because the driver couldn't find the building which is 20 stories tall and on a corner. According to their records ,it was delivered. I had to wait 20minutes- and couldn't speak to someone on site, but to someone in Chicago. I got 10 dollars for my trouble. Also since I was deemed the trouble maker, I had to remember a code every time I order from them. I asked- four times why the delivery man , the restaurant, or even Chicago wouldn't call. They DO have the number . Instead I got the runaround and labeled a troublemaker. You know, I can get a grilled cheese without this kind of drama. Guess you can lose a customer when you operate out of Chicago.
