To-go Caesar salad with added tri-tip for $5 . 3 small slices of overcooked meat.
    Jenny Y.

I came back again after soft opening. This time I came with my parents to pick up takeout. We ordered a Caesar salad with tri-tip, a bbq chicken plate with broccoli and vegetables, and tri-tip plate with squash and broccoli. The salad without protein is about $18. Another $5 was added for the tri-tip. For $5, I expected more than 3 thin slices of meat. It was overcooked as well, very different from my previous experience. Oh, and they forgot something this time again. They forgot my salad dressing. The chicken in the plate was super tough. My dad didn't end up eating it because it was so dry even with all the sauces. This was my parents' first experience with Bushfire and they've already told me they don't want to go back. It's a shame because I know the food can be great. It seems the quality of food is not consistent. It's really luck of the draw.

    Beef empanada ... yum

Food was good; brussels sprouts were tender with a sweet drizzle of balsamic vinegar. Tri tip and mac were okay and chimimchurri sauce was good. Beef empanada was delicious I really liked that. Service was good and waitress was clearing tables nicely. Ambience was nice inside and I like the outdoor area too.

My wife and I tried this place and were underwhelmed. We both ordered burgers and they were not properly cooked. The person taking our order asked if we wanted them cooked medium or well done. See the picture for how it turned out. The patties and buns gave the impression that they came from Costco. I get that the place is new, but this needs to be fixed if this place is going to survive. Great service, but food safety needs improvement.

Salmon bowl with jasmine rice and Brussels sprouts, American burger on GF bun with French fries

If anyone has been to the Bushfire Kitchen in Del Mar, they just opened a new location in Rancho Bernardo! So much of their menu is GF! Most importantly, all of their fried food is GF, so their fryer is GF! My husband and eldest daughter both have celiac and they did not get glutened at either location. I got the salmon bowl which has a house made GF teriyaki sauce, my husband got the American burger and said it's one of the better GF buns he's had, and my kids had the crispy chicken strips and french fries. I love that it was so effortless, the staff are knowledgeable, and the menu is diverse. They also have a GF cookie which we didn't get this time but will be back often!

Bushfire Kitchen is now open in Rancho Bernardo! I visited on their second day operating to take advantage of their promotions. First of all, not sure where the name "Bushfire" comes from, but every time I read it I want to say "Brush Fire". Maybe because living in SoCal it's always top of mind. I don't know but it's kind of awkward LOL. Anyway, I was excited to check out this new establishment which is a regional chain of restaurants with about a dozen locations throughout LA, OC, the IE and San Diego. Founded in 2012, Bushfire Kitchen specializes in "Comfort food you can feel good about". Their seemingly healthy food menu is inspired by global flavors using high quality ingredients. This restaurant in Rancho Bernardo was smaller than I was expecting. The tables and chairs all seem to be high quality and were reasonably comfortable. Unfortunately they were densely packed and oriented such that it felt like a hospital cafeteria. I dined outside on the patio and loved it. Ample shade overhang throughout the entire space. Despite being their second day open, service was very friendly and professional. Not as frenzied and frantic as I was expecting. This is a counter service restaurant, but they bring the food to your table. I ordered a Greek Salad and it was outstanding. Beautifully presented and fresh tasting. It's served with an inadequate amount of dressing on the side. I recommend a larger cup or include two. It also should have been served with a more generous amount of feta. I'm happy that I was able to omit the olives! I wasn't sure if it was premade or not. They feature Happy Hour daily from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. I love that! Offering a generous 50% off beer & wine plus a handful of discounted shareables. They had a nice looking selection of beers on tap. I look forward to visiting again soon and try many more of their tasty looking menu items.

Chicken bowl, Salmon bowl and side of Brussel sprouts

I was really looking forward to having a Bushfire Kitchen in Rancho Bernardo. It just opened so it has some kinks to work through. The area to place the order is rather tight with line out the door. Like others have mentioned, very densely packed seating indoors and some seating outside in covered patio. The staff was friendly and helpful answering questions on the menu. I ordered a tri tip bowl with a delicious chimichurri sauce which comes with rice or roasted vegetables, a salmon bowl (well seasoned) with roasted butternut squash and chicken bowl (a bit dry) with roasted butternut squash and some beef empanadas (which were delicious). I also ordered a side of roasted Brussel sprouts. Prices are a bit on the higher side for the portions but food was tasty. Ambiance was family friendly. Will love to return to compare in a month or so.

Surf and Turf with brown rice and brussels sprouts

My wife mentioned that Bushfire Kitchen was finally opening today, so naturally we asked ourselves... what's the best thing to do? Go get dinner, of course. This was our first time trying Bushfire Kitchen and we were pretty excited to check it out. We decided to do takeout since we figured opening day was going to be busy. We browsed the menu online first, picked what we wanted, then headed over to the restaurant. As soon as we got there, there were already quite a few people standing around. At first we thought it was the dine-in crowd, but most were actually waiting on takeout orders. Definitely a sign people were eager to try the place. Inside From a quick count, there are around 10 to 12 tables in the main dining area, plus a few more near the registers. Even with the crowd, the space didn't feel too cramped. There's also outdoor seating available if you prefer eating outside. Food Since this was our first visit, we kept it simple and both ordered the Surf & Turf plate. My wife chose brown rice and Brussels sprouts for her sides, while I went with garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were easily my favorite part of the meal. Packed with flavor, especially that rich garlicky kick. The salmon was decent, though nothing that really stood out to me personally. The tri-tip, however, was solid and definitely the stronger half of the combo. We also tried the empanadas and honestly... those are an easy reorder for next time. Opening day was definitely a little hectic. I overheard a few customers mention missing items in their orders here and there, but considering they had just opened, it's understandable that the crew was still adjusting to the volume. What stood out to me though was seeing staff actively checking on customers and trying to make sure people were taken care of, which I appreciated. Verdict Overall, a really solid first experience and definitely a place we'll come back to. Oh they give military discount, I believe it's 5%.

Nice brand new spot! We tried it during their soft opening. I had the Tuscan Chicken sandwich & a side of Macaroni & Cheese. I loved the Mac & cheese. It was partially crispy with bread crumbs and was delicious. I also thought the chicken sandwich was great! Marissa & Trudy were so helpful and kind. We will definitely be back! Thank you Bushfire Kitchen!

Beef empanada and the blueberry and creme empanada

Went to soft opening and it was a 10/10 experience! Staff was sweet and helpful, food was delicious we had 0 complaints. We tried the beef, veggie, and blueberry empanada, beef was the tables favorite, for entries we tried the teriyaki chicken bowl, trip bowl, and the hot chicken sandwich. The location is obviously new and clean but a good thought out space and the chairs were comfy lol I can't wait to come back!!

What a wonderful place to eat! I came on the second day of their grand opening and had a great time. The food is delicious and they have an abundance of menu items to choose from! The staff was plentiful, fast and accommodating. Very spacious and plenty of spots to eat in or outside in the patio area.

I enjoyed this restaurant since it is spacious, modern and well designed. Their food tasted so fresh and delicious it was hard to not get more items during my visit. Everyone here is very nice and pleasant. Will definitely come to dine again.

I have to always tear into one as soon as I get them. Where else can I devour an entire everything bagel with no spread! They are that delicious! No butter necessary. Just full of flavor! Don't pay any attention to the low star ratings. Absolute self-centered rubbish. The employees work so hard making these bagels early every morning! So instead of going to McD's, I decided on bagels. I'm so glad that I did, even on a Saturday morning there was a steady flow of customers so there was a line to order. We order: an Everything and an Asiago cheddar bagel both with cream cheese and a house coffee and a Carmel macchiato. The bagels are cooked right front of you: fresh, OMG soft, and tasty!!! We ate the majority of our food before taking a pic. Their house coffee is from Seattle Best but the selection of flavors were just okay. And my wife said her Carmel macchiato was okay, but she rarely gives a review on her food / drink. There are other food items on the menu board so we'll need to return to try those next time in town. Just be aware that if you order a bagel, $2.75 then add cream cheese the price jumps to $5.25.

My baby girl has visited Compa Coffee Roasters (CCR) one time previously, she enjoyed it, and requested that we stop by. This was my first visit to this coffee spot and after just the very first sip of my iced Salted Maple Latte extra sweet, CCR will be seeing this Filipino giant again. Compa Coffee Roasters is located in Rancho Bernardo specifically off the 15 freeway and the Rancho Bernardo Road exit. If you're driving north, make a right after you exit and head east. If you're driving south, make a left after you exit and head east. The coffee joint can be found in The Mercado outdoor shopping center with its anchor store being Barons Market. Besides Barons, Kangnam KBBQ, Pho Cao Dao, Xuan Tailoring & Alterations, Pizza Hut, Fed Ex, and one of our fave boba drink places, Presotea all reside here. There is plenty of parking, but when we visited, it was busy, so you might have to park far. CCR was jam packed when we entered, so obviously I'm a little late to the party of knowing what an awesome coffee spot this is. It's got a really cool vibe with wooden sun art on their walls, flora throughout the space, and the focal point being the diligent baristas doing their thing. There are wooden tables, bench seating, bar top with no bar seating, and plenty of outdoor seating. From the gentleman at the register and the baristas, the staff were friendly and had a positive disposition. Their merchandise was really cool especially their logo tshirts that looked like an old school San Diego Padres logo. I remember when Compa Coffee Roasters had just opened in Rancho Bernardo and I had been meaning to visit, but never got around to checking it out. Blessed that it was my coffee aficionado baby girl who enticed me to go and she was spot on CCR being a good coffee spot. CCR opens at 7am and closes at 6pm. Besides coffee, the java joint serves sandwiches, afternoon eats, variety of food, bagels, toasts, beer, and wine. When I talked to friendly gentleman behind the register, I asked what he recommended for someone who enjoys sweet coffee. He provided several recommendations including their Salted Maple Latte, which is what my daughter had planned to order. I kindly asked for an iced Salted Maple Latte, requesting it to be sweeter, and looked forward to trying my first CCR coffee drink. It was delicious from the first sip to the last, so much so that I savored that drink for quite awhile, which is abnormal for me. That's how tasty it was. It was the perfect sweetness for me, my taste buds could distinguish the coffee, and it was really flavorful. If you're into sweet coffee drinks, I highly recommend CCR's iced Salted Maple Latte extra sweet. You're welcome!!! I'm thankful to God for being able to spend quality time with my baby girl treating her to some cup of Joes from Compa Coffee Roasters. I'm also blessed that our new go to coffee spot is just around the corner from our home.
