6 piece tender meal with fried okra and gravy
    Adam T.

I ordered a 6 piece tender combo with fried okra, a roll, gravy, and their chicken dipping sauce, and the food came out very fast and pretty fresh. No complaints about service. The ambiance of the restaurant was better than expected, with hot sauce, ketchup, honey, and seasonings laid out on every table. Food area was clean. The chicken tenders were decently crispy and moist with a simple fried chicken taste. The fried okra was extremely disappointing, however, as it had little to no flavor from the batter. The roll was fine. The gravy and chicken sauce did not enhance the food by that much since they also lacked seasonings. You can season the food by yourself with the seasonings at the table, but it won't save the food from being bland. Overall, the food was pretty bland and unmemorable. I'm glad to have tried it, but I won't be coming here again.

Not a fan of Bush's. It was my first time coming here. I saw that it was close by to where I was getting my nails done (that was recommended by my roommate). The chicken tenders taste alright. I like how they have condiments on each table. The gizzards and livers are not that great. Remind me to never get liver... A plus is that the prices are pretty low, but I'm gonna stick with the major fast food chains.

Man oh man!!!!! I live in the area and passed this place way to many times smh! Bush's chicken is literally the best chicken ever; hot, plump, meaty, and juicy. I was in complete awe seeing the size of the chicken strips (they are huge) definitely having that next time. I had the two breast plate, the chicken itself dwarfed my plate. The Mac was also tasty. I'm a saucy kind of foodie; and I love that they have hot sauce on the table. They even have a lemon pepper seasoning which was also a good addition to the chicken (not that the chicken lacked flavor) The staff was friendly! I can't wait to try the dessert, the sweet tea was even better than pluckers :)

Ordered a two piece chicken, with mash potatoes and a drink?. Always love their chicken, and this is what I got. They told me over the phone I did not specify what pieces of chicken, but couldn't you at least do one big piece of chicken and one small piece of chicken, instead of too tiny chicken.

Fried Chicken Gizzards (aka - crack balls) Very addictive and delicious !!!

Every Bush's location I've been to has been great, including this location. They offer a wide variety of chicken from fried, baked, strips, whole pieces, livers, and gizzards, plus more with many choices of sides.

It is so awesome that they support local high schools!

Our go-to spot to get fried gizzards and livers whenever we are visiting Texas because California does not have this. The staff here are pretty friendly, and the gentleman that took our order when we went inside the establishment kept us updated about our order due to us having to wait for a new batch of fried livers. He even apologized for the wait, even though the apology wasn't needed; we didn't mind waiting a few minutes. We ordered the 12 pcs of livers and 12 pcs of the gizzards/livers mix, and although it was 12 pcs, I still wasn't able to finish all of it entirely. It honestly feels like its more than 12 pcs (I didn't count). My daughter got the kids' chicken tenders meal, and she was able to finish everything in her meal, which is pretty rare. Normally, I take her finishing her meal meaning that she really enjoyed the meal. This will definitely be one of the places that I will be missing when I return to California, so I am enjoying it as much as I can!

Corn nuggets and okra from our 20 piece family meal

Tasty and fresh tenders and rolls. The gravy was plentiful and piping hot as well. The family enjoyed the corn nuggets and okra that we chose as our sides. We will be back when we get a hankering! The chicken is a little bland but definitely quality and very fresh.

Went for lunch today 4/14/19 the place just opened this week so everything was nice, clean and new. Counter person was friendly and answered our many questions. The chicken pieces were all cooked properly and skin was crunchy. I just thought it was very plain tasting. I had to use ketchup to help with flavor. I do not like that you don't get a side with a 3 piece meal. The bread was hot and freshly prepared but again not much flavor. My wife had a two strip meal with fries as her side. She liked the chicken but the fries were just run of the mill. She loved her bread. It was definitely not as good as I hoped but I will probably try them agin after they get off the ground.

Their condiments.Honey, Hot Sauce, Ketchup, and their own seasoning. Not a bad combo!

My girls are begging for anchor wings nightly, the 9yo loves their retrial and the 7yo loves the jerk, I personally love the honey siracha and babe alert ranch. Now the honey siracha, it's listed as like the one of the hottest, no sir it's barely spicy at all, I still love it but just saying. Wait staff is always awesome, friendly and super helpful. Only complaint is we saw they have .99c wings on Tuesdays, it says limit 10, which was perfect for the girls and I since we can't eat more than 6. The waiter said it's a misprint and supposed to say 10 minimum. That was frustrating and sad because we would go every Tuesday if we could order less, 10 is way too much for all 3 of us and all 3 like different flavors so sharing won't work either. Love the hand cleaning station, although it looks like it could use a cleaning itself lol. But 5 stars because yesssss, the food and the service are so good. Wait one more complaint, sorry! The skillet cookie, way too expensive for what you get AND the skillet is tiny it's impossible to eat without getting burned. Knowing it was bringing hot and being careful all 3 of us still left with burns.

The Mango Habanero wings had just the right amount of spice and was not overpowering like some other wing restaurants. Also I rarely eat Ranch dressing with my wings, but the Ranch dressing here tastes much better than other wing restaurants I have tried. Overall a VERY impressive experience and I may need to become a more frequent visitor. I also like the fact this is a veteran owned restaurant, that makes me want to visit even more.

The oxtails were savory and properly cooked, but just 'okay' for my taste as they lacked that fall-off-the-bone tenderness and the rich, sweet depth I personally prefer. The rice and peas were a bit 'meh' and could have used more flavor. That said, it wasn't bad everything was eaten and enjoyed! Location/Parking: It's located at Hanovers Draught Haus (inside the establishment). You can park right on the side or use the lot, which is very convenient.

They were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of vinegar and cooked to that ideal tender texture without being mushy. The fried chicken and catfish were outstanding. Both were well seasoned, incredibly crispy, and tasted like they were fried in fresh grease. Every bite was hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked macaroni and cheese was good, but it leaned a little more toward a Velveeta-style cheese sauce than my personal preference. Still a solid 9/10. I also ordered the Peach Passion Fruit Hennessy margarita, and it was superb. Smooth, flavorful, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The staff was friendly and welcoming, the prices were very reasonable, and the portions were generous. If you're looking for authentic soul food in Austin, The Rolling Rooster is absolutely worth the stop. I'll definitely be back.

The young lady at the register left quickly when we approached, and when I asked if we could dine in, she told us there was no room. That felt unusual, but we decided to order takeout. While placing the order, she mentioned there were plumbing issues and something was overflowing, which raised another concern about the cleanliness of the environment. She also seemed anxious and unprofessional during the interaction. We were told the food would take about 15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 30-45 minutes. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations, especially for the price. The oxtails, rice, greens, and macaroni and cheese were around $36. The okra looked like it had been refried, and the chicken wings tasted as though they were cooked in old grease. The greens had an unusual flavor, and the macaroni and cheese did not taste like traditional mac and cheese. The oxtails were messy but not tender. Based on the lack of professionalism, the long wait, and the overall quality of the food, I do not plan to return.

The website paints a picture of a beach‑side getaway: easygoing, flavorful, relaxed. That's exactly why our visit felt so mismatched. My partner and I ordered the Perfect Storm sampler and 10 bone‑in wings, split between Garlic Ginger and Garlic Parm. The wings came mixed with flats and drums, which was fine, but both flavors were so greasy that we had to wipe them down before eating. And not just a little sheen -- I mean the kind of oiliness that dulls the seasoning and clings to your fingers. The Garlic Ginger had a nice aromatic profile underneath, but the fat muted it. The Garlic Parm leaned heavy, with the grease overshadowing any sharpness from the garlic or cheese. The sampler didn't fare much better. The fries were soggy and limp, the kind of texture that tells you the oil temperature dropped or the batch sat too long. The shrimp and mozzarella were edible, but lacked crispness -- everything felt weighed down instead of bright or crunchy. When fried food loses its structure, it loses its appeal, and that's exactly what happened here. From a food‑critic standpoint, the issue wasn't flavor -- it was technique. Grease is a symptom. It usually means the oil wasn't hot enough, the baskets were overloaded, or the fry time wasn't adjusted. When the oil temp drops, moisture stays trapped inside the food, and instead of crisping, it absorbs the fat. That's how you end up with wings that feel slick instead of snappy and fries that collapse under their own weight. And that's where the disconnect with the branding hits hardest. The website promises "hot and crispy wings with a 100% chance of cold, frothy beers," "jumbo‑sized wings," and "an escape from the ordinary." What we received felt more like a kitchen struggling to keep up -- heavy food, tired textures, and none of the crispness that defines good fried comfort food. The frustrating part is that the service was excellent. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind -- the kind of person who makes you feel taken care of before the food even arrives. But the kitchen execution didn't rise to meet that level. When the service is top‑tier and the food feels like an afterthought, the imbalance becomes impossible to ignore. Great people, but the food didn't match the promise or the care they put into the experience. We wouldn't return.
