Hard to describe but you just know you're at a very important place but that doesn't take itself too seriously. There are burgers that are good, burgers that are great, and then there's Au Cheval. I went in with pretty ridiculous expectations considering this place has been called one of the best burger spots in the world...and somehow, the burger still delivered. That's rare. The patties were insanely juicy and perfectly cooked, with that beautiful crispy, caramelized edge you want from a great griddle burger. The combination of the melted cheese, creamy sauce, onions, pickles and that ridiculously buttery brioche bun was borderline unfair. Rich, messy, salty, savory and completely indulgent in the best possible way. And that bun deserves its own mention. Soft enough to absorb all that glorious burger juice without completely falling apart. The whole thing is constructed like someone actually understands what makes a burger great. Is it the best burger I've ever had? I DONT FUCKING KNOW. but I completely understand why people put Au Cheval in the conversation for best burger in America, if not the world. The hype is real. This is a fucking burger. 9.7/10

The soft bun soaked in a lot of those juices with each bite, intensifying the flavor as I ate more. The fries were thin and on the greasier side--not my personal favorite, but they worked alright as a vehicle for the sauce. Speaking of which, the chili aioli served with the fries was fantastic. We also got the mac and cheese, which hit a great balance between rich and creamy without feeling excessively wet. The boat it came in was a bit small, making it a little messy to scoop out with the serving spoon, but it was soooo good. Overall, it is absolutely a fantastic neighborhood place for comfort food and drinks with friends in a great space!

This business is at a pop-up stand within Market Days in Boystown emboldening a large Fox News sign as advertisement. The man attempted to assault a group of gay men for calling out the anti-gay business ethics. I am disgusted Northalsted business district allows them into our neighborhood, and feel very unsafe with the toxic fascist masculinity that was given while at a pride event. Pictured is Fox News sign in front of Howard Brown, a health center started during HIV/AIDS endemic in our community. The guy behind the counter was pleasant to deal with. As I waited the dining area was medium sized with a bull mural on the wall. The flavor was on point, but the bun was chewy. The tomatoes were diced which is a nice touch because it allows you to get some with every bite. No poppyseed bun or celery salt. The dog was good, not great. The fries were very good. I would good back to try the burger. I received my food, it looked great.

I was acknowledged shortly after I walked in and up to the counter to look at the menu which was plastered above the counter. It took me some time to look at the menu because the menu online differed from the menu onsite above the counter. I had a taste for a veggie hot dog, but I did not see it featured on the menu above the counter, figuring that it was no longer an option at the time. So, I ended up ordering their veggie burger, fries, and a drink which was completed within several minutes. While paying, I could not help but notice Turano products near the register. Turano baking company, a family-owned bakery that produces authentic and delicious breads. I drive by Turano's daily enroute to my primary job and it is hard not to notice its building exterior, which has a commanding presence. Being that I have had the interest in visiting Turano's for some time now, I ended up purchasing a Turano - chocolate chunk cookie to go along with my veggie burger, fries, and drink. And there are a number of tables with seats available inside of the dining area, plus a television plastered on the wall near the entrance for viewing pleasure as you eat. The crinkle-cut fries were the first item I started off with eating. Though not as good as Portillo's crinkle-cut fries, ketchup certainly complimented them well. From that point on, I could not resist eating them all after the addition of ketchup. I moaned in enjoyment after my first bite of the veggie burger; it was garnished with everything I requested such as ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and tomatoes! It was very satisfying indeed. Taking note of everything I experienced: service, ambiance, and food, I have to say that it was a good experience. Spots like this where the food isn't dry or insipid, while not 'winning' are definitely not losing. Then come the Onion Rings. Massive credit to the worker for warning me that the Fuego has a ghost pepper seasoning, and confirming if that's what I really want. I asked for the seasoning on the side, as not to burn what's left of my palate off. I think it's not crazy hot, but I also breathe so much fire generally that Tabasco tastes "lite-mild," so YMMV." When it comes to the cheese sauce, it is A-OK for commercially made and processed stuff. Amazing for dipping the onion rings into! The service is great!
