What a find! Traveling the country, we sought out a fabulous BBQ spot - AND WE FOUND IT! We called to be sure they were open and learned that people line up as early as 8 a.m. I called back was able to order ahead (we were 2 hours away). We weren't worried about not getting a table, we just wanted the food! When we arrived, people were telling us they were out of a lot of items. They have some of the best BBQ in the state, and it's self evident by the line around the building just to get some before it's gone!

There is good BBQ in Oklahoma City, but if you want great, you'll have to travel to either Smokin' Joe's in Davis or The Butcher's BBQ Stand in Wellston. So every time I'm traveling the Turner Turnpike on a weekend, a stop at Butcher's is a must. Rain was coming, so I got half pounds of sliced brisket and pulled pork to go, along with a quart of their Apple Pie BBQ Beans. I've had their ribs and burnt ends before, and they're good. One of the subtle things I appreciate here is how well everything compliments everything else. I've not been able to find - and I forgot to ask - what wood they use, but I suspect it's applewood. Whatever they use, it works great with the rubs. Everything has a definite sweetness to the taste. The brisket is sliced thick and is as tender as I've ever had. The pulled pork is just as tender and moist. They are slightly smoky. I typically like more smoke, but this works with the sweetness. Neither need sauce to be good. Speaking of sauce, we're a Head Country family, and I always prefer it over the house sauce. Except here. I tried both, and Butcher's sauce is perfect for their meats. It accentuates the sweetness while adding a touch of acidity. Lastly, the apple pie BBQ beans may be the best side ever made. People either like them or they don't. I love 'em, which is why I bought a quart. It's like they made the perfect baked beans and then decided to add the apple pie filling. So you get the apple pie taste along with a touch of heat. They're incredible, and the main reason for the fifth star. read more

I was on my way to Eureka Springs Ar. And stopped off in Wellston Ok. to have some BBQ at The Butcher BBQ Stand. The food and service was great and it should have not been a surprise because it is award winning BBQ. Then there is the hole atmosphere of eating outside on picnic tables reminds me of eating with family at a reunion. The only thing that I give them a bad mark for is the hours of service they are only open 3 days a week from 11AM until they run out. So my recommendation is everyone should try it out but get there early. read more

Amazing BBQ it's a little different you go wait in a line until you get to the window and order we got 2 family trays. There was so much food everyone got to try it all. The sauce despiser is a bit fun like milking a cow. Place will be packed and people line up an hour before it opens. Don't worry if you can't do the crowds get your food go outside and enjoy. After going I had several friends say it's gotten where it's hit or miss on food, so I'll chalk it up to I went on a miss day, otherwise it was good. This is a family share platter of pure pig style goodness. Most folks that share take home a box. The ribs have been deemed as quite possibly the best rib with meat that just melts off the bone. I've been to a fair number of BBQ joints in Oklahoma that all lay a claim to being the "best". Each of them produced a respectable product, and they've earned their accolades. But none so far have come close to matching the meaty magnificence of The Butcher BBQ Stand. They have the best fall-off-the-bone pork ribs in Oklahoma, and the rest of their BBQ is no slouch! I'm quite fond of their pulled pork. Others rave about their burnt ends, and their brisket. I've tried them all, and nothing disappoints. You can't go wrong. Whose got the meat sweats? Me. Passed this place several time but either didn't have the time to stop or they were sold out. The stars aligned for us today, however. I saw the line and was immediately in doubt wether I wanted to wait. Glad I did. Wish I could say the line moves quickly, alas it doesn't move as quickly as I wished; waited for 20 minutes albeit the line stretched to the back of the seating area then slightly curved. After waiting, I order the burnt ends, corn and Apple pie bbq baked beans at the advise of the cashier. My wife had the sliced brisket, potato salad and corn. Everything was fully worth the wait. Both meats had juices flowing and extremely tender. While I did enjoy the burnt ends, I enjoyed the brisket a little more. The corn was awesome, would do it every time, soft and tons of flavor. I was slightly apprehensive about the Apple pie baked beans, but was was surprised how well it paired. Had all the flavors I promised and a great mix of textures. It was tick enough to easily be eaten with a fork but not so thick you had to cut it with a knife. For dessert, a Twinkie, yes a Twinkie. As they state, they are BBQ folk, not bakers. The vanilla sponge cake was a great end to the meal but would have preferred it been something like strawberry's on a sponge cake with whipped cream. Alas it wasn't an option. Very good bbq but a long wait to order. We stood in line for 2 hours just to order but after ordering only 15 minutes till pickup. We ordered the meat locker with 1 pound of burnt ends. The burnt ends are outstanding as are the ribs. The chicken is very good and moist as is the turkey. The other meats are good. The cold slaw and beans are some of the best ever. However with a 2 hour wait I may not go back anytime soon. read more

This place is INCOMPARABLE. I once had this a day old and have not stopped thinking about it till today. I got the half rack of ribs with a smoked polish sausage and side of Mac and cheese and was sooo happy. They really are the best BBQ ribs I've ever had. I waited about an hour and a half to get my food because a line started around 10:30 and I wasn't there till around 11:00. So get there early! But I feel like this place blew Clark Crew BBQ out of the water. I tried Clark Crew because they boasted about winning the Jack Daniels Competition but it did not compare. The Butcher Stand is less gaudy and feels more like a backyard BBQ, but I would take their food and atmosphere any day over Clark Crews. We have heard the stories for years, we have swooned with tales of wonder. Today we tasted the legend. The Butcher Barbecue Stand in Welston, Oklahoma, is about 30 minutes northeast from our house on Interstate 44, and is one of those local joints that serves until they run out of food. We arrived at 1 PM, and waited about an hour and a half. They did run out of turkey, chicken and ribs while we stood in line, but we were able to enjoy burnt ends, brisket and delicious sausage. We opted for barbecue beans, potato salad and macaroni and cheese as sides. Several in our party thought the onions and pickles were particularly good as well. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably rate this barbecue a 7 or an 8. It was really good, but I wouldn't say it redefined the barbecue experience for me entirely. Definitely worth trying. They are only open 3 days right now, but it's totally worth the small drive. I ate it and after I was full, my husband finished them off. He chose 3 meats, brisket, pork, and burnt ends(if you don't know, it is the outside crispy cooked meat ends and they are specifically delicious). I must say the 5 star rating is coveted and a restaurant has to hit all the marks to get it. This place does just that. The bbq was on point. Brisket was so soft and tender, it just pulled right apart. The ribs were perfect. Just a little tug and meat falls right off. Smoked sausage was juicy and Smokey. This sparked my husbands joy for BBQ. He is from the PNW (so... no good southern bbq) but he always would say eh to bbq. Well that has all changed now. We came on a Friday afternoon so no line! The meat locker: great amount of food for the price. Gave a sampling of all meats (except the burnt ends). We also got some burnt ends too because we really wanted to try everything. The meat locker feeds 4 people so needless to say, we had leftovers which we happily took home. Ribs: these were my absolute favorite. Fall off the bone tender. Not dry and very juicy. Also amazing flavor. I would only get ribs when we go back! Not to take away from the other meats because they all were good. Brisket: nice flavor and texture, not dry as some brisket could be Burnt ends: very flavorful, however, drawback is it had a lot of fatty pieces which I dont love. But this is one of the most popular items so we had to try of course. OVERALL: I'd definitely go back and my husband is now a bbq believer and counting the days til we go back. It is a sweeter style of bbq so be prepared for that if you prefer a more salty and spicy bbq. But overall, delicious. read more
