July 5th 2025 I was tired of overpriced mediocre food with service charges. The sign by the street caught my eye. $5 Breakfast Burritos. A protein adds $2. My $7 chorizo breakfast burrito non smothered was the tastiest food item I had after being in Denver for 4 days. I took the wife with me the following morning. Burritos are about the size of 1.5 soda cans stacked end to end. The wife does not eat eggs. Her no egg burrito was just as big as mine with eggs. The potatoes inside were cooked ideally with crispy edges. The amount of protein was proportionate. My only criticism was that the foil wrapper is a very thin and tore easily. Went for breakfast, and from the outside and upon entering, I felt in my soul that it was the sort of place I love to go for breakfast--a small place, weathered and worn by time, and without pretension. The table shared a smothered chorizo burrito, which was very good and of an impressive size. There was also menudo, which was absolutely chock full of tripe, and the small size a couple of us ordered would have been a large anywhere else, but it definitely needed a little help from the salt shaker and the accompanying lime wedges, cilantro, dried oregano, and dried red pepper flakes to reach its potential. My huevos rancheros were very filling with refried beans and homefries requested as a substitution for rice. The green salsa was ladled on with a heavy hand, and my dish was swimming in it, but it was very liquid and didn't have much in the way of chilies floating in it. The flavor was all there, but the textural consistency of the salsa was wet. The ranchero dish and the menudos were served with tortillas. I think that I'd definitely go back the next time I'm in town, but I'd hope that the green salsa would next time would be a little heartier in texture. I get the feeling that I wasn't there on the best day, but the flavors overall, the hearty burrito, and the friendliness of the staff help to get the 3.5 up to 4 stars. read more

I cannot express how much I love the 20th street cafe. I should have taken photos during my many visits but I always eat the food too fast. The first two times I got handheld burritos. As a gym bro, I weigh all my food, and these handheld burritos (all under $10 last I was there) are over a pound. 500grams, often closer to 550. They do NOT skimp on portion size. So you aren't gonna spend $10 and say "why am I still hungry." The burritos weren't just large, but they were also very delicious. The service at the window is quick and courteous. The next few times I came in on Sundays after they began to open on Sundays. Given that I enjoy brunch as a post-mass treat, this is perfect for me and my wife. I'm not from Denver (NM), and I saw a "Mexican hamburger" on the menu. I was intrigued; I googled it and learned it's a Denverite fusion abomination (and I don't mean that as an insult, I LOVE food abominations... if they're good). So of course I ordered it, and wow was it good; a top 5 food of all time for me. Other times I've gotten the smothered burrito and a few other dishes that escape me, but every time this place delivers. My friend once got the tacos and he claimed they were the best he'd had (I tried a bite and they were pretty darn good!) The employees now generally recognize me and if I go without my wife they'll ask how she is. Haven't been in a while because I'm out of town for a few months, but when I return, it'll surely be one of my first stops. If you haven't already, give this place a try. This cafe has been around for a long, long time. The original owners sold it back in 2020 and it's a Mexican restaurant that offers breakfast and coffee now. Most of the menu stuff listed here on Yelp is outdated (don't go searching for the formerly famous blueberry French toast- sorry it's gone!). I took pictures of the new menu for everyone to see. I had a smothered breakfast burrito and they were so kind to put the chicharrones in it for me that were listed on the back page! It was phenomenal! I had it Christmas style and the chili did not disappoint. We were greeted very nicely upon entering and they brought us chips, salsa and water immediately. The staff seems to work really well as a team and it's a very pleasant environment. Both the ladies working today are super kind and friendly! The handheld burritos Togo are only $5 you can't beat that! They have nearly every flavor of Jarritos I've ever heard of, 2/$5 Redbulls and Rockstars, and a stellar selection of hot sauces!! Even though it wasn't the cafe I remembered- it was super delicious and an overall great experience! Happy we came here and we will be happy to return as well! read more

These are the best street tacos I've had in Denver. Juicy, fresh, full of flavor. You cannot go wrong here. Although this cafe has been here many years, after I moved to the area a few months ago I knew I had to try it...and boy did I treat myself! The service was incredible. I walked in around 2:30 PM on a Wednesday afternoon and I didn't think much about the hours. But I was promptly greeted and asked what I'd like to order. It took me a few minutes, but I did realize that they were closing in about 30 minutes. I didn't feel rushed, but I did go ahead and order out of courtesy And my food came out within 5 to 10 minutes This place closes early so be sure to get there early, as they close at 3. It's a relaxing cafe vibe nothing fancy. The food speaks for itself. These street tacos have everything you are looking for greasy flavorful, juicy full flavored tons of toppings and just delicious. In town for a conference, hotel doesn't offer breakfast until 7am and it's 6am and I'm hungry. To my surprise, the only option is Starbucks (heck no!). So I Google, walk 15 minutes and find this gem. Do not judge a book by its cover. Nothing to write home about. I sat myself at a table and the staff came with the menu. First things first. Coffee and water. The menu offers were so Mexican and I mean that in a positive way. Yum, yum, yum! Didn't know what to order so I went with a Denver omelette, Mexican style. Huge portion, sauce in a bowl, bread in aluminum foil. Look at the pics to see what I'm talking about. Coffee was on point and the mug was unique. I consider the price relatively cheap. If I could, I would give 3.5 stars. The atmosphere is very cozy which I really enjoyed. We had the steak breakfast burrito and the chilaquiles verdes. The breakfast burrito was pretty good; the potatoes were soggy and not really seasoned, but the steak was good. The chilaquiles were good, but not great. They didn't have all that much flavor, but with the sour cream they were yummy. The service was also good, but not great. Overall I am happy we came here, and I think I would come again. read more

We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. I didn't realize it was mostly Mexican food but I was happy about that since I love Mexican food. The coffee we ordered was good. I got a smothered breakfast burrito with sausage and my husband got the same but with bacon. Our food came out fast. The chile they put in the sauce has quite a kick to it. I can't handle spicy food but it was so good that I couldn't stop eating it. My husband got some homemade hot sauce, which was so spicy it had him sweating. He did like it a lot though. The service here was great. Everyone was really friendly and you can tell they truly appreciate their customers. It is a small restaurant but it's very bright and clean. I visited this establishment on 7-29-23. First time there, first time in Denver. I got the smothered breakfast burrito with bacon. It was delicious. It has a little bit of heat to it, and I added some of their house made sauce that the lady said was really hot. The sauce added instant heat but doesn't linger very long and has a good flavor but I only added to a few bites using a knife. The workers there were very friendly, service was fast and they were attentive to anything you may need. Refills, more napkins, and they didn't wait until you had your mouthful to check on you. The establishment was clean, they had music playing on the TV, not to loud but a little background music. I would definitely eat there again and recommend others try the establishment. read more

I can honestly say that in this price point/price range ($15-$25) this is the best Mexican food in the entire downtown area. These people seriously know what they're doing. Super flavorful marinated and tender meats. Homemade tortillas (both corn & flour). Even the rice and beans is done right and super high quality.
