This place is good but nothing wow'd. It's a solid spot. They were quick and friendly. Reminds me of a scene in How I Met Your Mother - particularly when they are in a diner searching for the Best Burger Ever. Legitimately everything here is good. Nothing more, nothing less. Smothered burrito hit the spot. Green chille is not spicy (thank you!). Could've used more green chille because I like my super saucy, but that's more of a personal preference. Homemade cinnamon roll comes with a slab of butter melting on top of it. Never seen that before and not actually necessary, but - heck - it was good. Key differentiator: Their personality and customer service. They treat you very kindly. This restaurant was founded by a small-town person wanting to replicate the small-town vibe from Nebraska, and it really does feel like a small town vibe in there. This is impressive being on the outskirts and industrial bleh of RiNo. Service is fast, people are nice, and there's an overall lack of judgment or need to fit in. The small parking lot is convenient and they maximize every crevice of it to try and create as many spots as possible. This may create a 5+ point turn to get in and out of your parking lot, but I appreciate it. read more

Butcher Block Cafe has been on my to-do since seeing their homemade cinnamon rolls sign. Something about this little diner told me that good food was to be found there - and I was right! I have been craving a breakfast burrito for a minute, so today was the day that not only was I going to tackle that craving but finally try Butcher Block and oh.man. The burritos were amazing!! With a variety of egg, cheese, hashbrown and meat options, not to mention you can choose to smother it with green chili or country gravy (and believe me you can't go wrong with either), our burrito cravings were more than satisfied. We opted for the two egg burritos, one with sausage and one with bacon. When I these were stuffed full, I mean it. Tons of bacon, full sausage links, lots of cheese and potatoes - definitely a two-meal burrito. But back to what originally caught my attention, the cinnamon roll sign. You bet I ordered some! Decided to give this place a whirl after a few people mentioned it. Would give it a zero star review if possible. Walked in to somewhat home style vibes but didn't feel clean. Wasn't busy but the food came out scary fast...I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and crispy hash browns. Horrible. Took one bite and instantly knew it was not the place for me, the gravy was TASTELESS. literally had no flavor whatsoever, the biscuit underneath was so dry not even a full cup of water satisfied me after. Coffee tasted like dirt water and the Denver omelette my boyfriend ordered was the saddest thing I've ever seen. The ham inside looked uncooked and the veggies were on one end with the meat on the other. Hashbrowns I ordered extra crispy and they still felt like mashed potatoes in my mouth. This is one of my favorite diners anywhere. I used to go there way back when it was called, Bud's, the Working People's Cafe'. When I'm in Denver, I try to make The Butcher Block one of my stops, even if it's just for one of their famous cinnamon rolls. I had just one morning free my last trip to Denver and I made the right choice going to the Butcher Block. My friend and I couldn't decide if we wanted the pancakes or the french toast. We decided to order one order of each and split them. Great move, both were excellent. The bacon and eggs that went with them were perfect! Mickey, the owner of the Butcher Block stopped by our table to say hello. He's a great guy He told us about the pig on the sidewalk outside. It's been there from the days when that part of town was known as the stockyards. If you're diner lover, and you want good coffee, good food, and good service...all for a good price, The Butcher Block Cafe is a must try. Took a chance and ordered from The Butcher Block Cafe because of the favorable reviews, but was thoroughly disappointed - the food was terrible. The Homemade Cinnamon Roll was hard and burned (see photo), the Round House didn't have eggs, the Bacon, Lettuce & Tomato Sandwich only had these pieces, no leafs (see photo), the Pancakes were rubbery, like they had been sitting. I tracked the food delivery from the order to pickup to delivery - the door dasher is not the reason the food was cold because he came straight from the restaurant to my location. Just bought food via Uber eats from this place. I forgot the orange juice, so I called and asked if they could add it to my order. The lady on the phone said she couldn't and didn't have control over that. If you know anything about uber eats, then you know that was a blatant lie. Orders can be modified. I told her I had done it many times before. Then she says she will try and says bye. I said, "Hold on, you don't even know my order." A great traditional, old-school, short-order diner in look & food. Reasonably priced for a good amount of food and the service was really good. Being a diner, the food can be super heavy, but it is still good with the fresh preparation. The main reason we went in was for the Cinnamon Roll that is supposed to be one of the best in Denver. Sadly...it was hard and dry so maybe we just got bad timed ones. :( My favorite thing was that unlike so many other brunch places in Denver, we didn't have to wait to get a seat and get to ordering! Cinnamon buns are worth splitting (too big unless that is all you are eating). I got one egg and hash browns which were crispy, deeply browned in spots and tender in others. I like them that way. So I ask if they can cook it more....the cook puts the burger on its side meat down on the grill and still when you bite into the burger it is still pink the inside. Butcher Block is an awesome hidden dive breakfast spot in Denver. We'd have never found it if it weren't for Yelp because it's tucked away in a little industrial area. The waitress was really friendly and gave us suggestions on the menu. We both went with breakfast and split a cinnamon roll. The roll came up first and was so tasty. It had a slight crispness to it and the cinnamon butter on top was divine. Breakfast was exactly as we asked for it and delicious. The bill was cheap (something like 15 bucks total). Internet hype brought me to Butcher Block Cafe; unfortunately, the food fell well short of the hoopla. My dining partner had the Smothered Breakfast Burrito. In very unworldly terms, she described it as an undercooked mass with puke on top. I submitted a picture to Yelp, so you can judge for yourself. I decided on the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. It was perhaps the most pathetic chicken sandwich I have ever come across. To say that it was tiny would be an understatement. Furthermore, the chicken was rubbery in texture and insulting to the palate. It was awful!! There's just nothing remarkable about this place at all. No quality - No value. I'm joining the reviewers who just can't understand the high marks for this restaurant. We were looking for a place to stop for lunch on our way to skiing and based on the 4 1/2 stars, we expected delicious homecooked food and large portions with friendly service at a good price. Decor doesn't matter since it's not always related to food quality. We did get the friendly service in a hole-in-the-wall setting and cheap prices, but the food was sorely lacking. My chili was a gooey mess out of a can and my friend's fish sandwich came on a store bought hamburger bun with one (!) thin fish stick that didn't occupy half the bun. Another friend's french toast platter looked like a slice of white bread covered in egg batter with a sad folded egg and two strips of bacon (see photo). We were all puzzled about the ratings and how a diner like this can survive in an industrial area where the workers must be demanding about quality and portions. One additional star for friendly service but that's the only positive about this place.
