Ok, I'm new to the area and driven past this place many times. Today, we decided to give it a try, as it's always busy. I don't think the decors been changed in years. There's dust on everything that's above arms length to reach. In our booth, I got to look at a spiderweb in the corner with small spider watching over me. Standard breakfast fair without a lot of flair. This place was recommended to us by some friends and we were really looking forward to it. Now I don't mind greasy spoon type place, but the lack of salt and pepper in the food was kind of surprising. The staff was very friendly and very quick to service, but everything was just terribly bland. Fortunately, they had plenty of salt, pepper and hot sauce on the table. Small Country Diner about halfway between Mooresville and Lincolnton on NC Hwy 150. A local favorite for good reason. Food is great and prices are right although they just had to go up of the buffet because of increasing food costs. We have been probably three or four times now and it's always good. Might have to wait in line to get seated around lunch time but the line moves quickly. The buffet is great with a good variety of Southern Comfort foods including Chicken Pot Pie, Salisbury Steaks, Wings etc. Time before last, I had the Chicken Liver Special and it was good although just a bit overcooked. You can order off the menu and they have a great selection there if nothing appeals to you off of the menu. We normally visit on Sunday and time our visit to be around 11am to get the Lunch Buffet and just ahead of the Lunch time crowd. My wife and I had familyin from out of state we took them to Butcher Boys upon arrival we were seated promptly however we had to wait while they switched the buffet from breakfast to lunch which we understood completely however our guests decided for the buffet and my wife and I ordered from the menu. The rest of our party started through the buffet and after 25 minutes later my wife inquired about our order and our server said that she would check on it she came back and said it would be a couple of minutes. Our meal never came and the 34 minute by this time the rest of our party was almost through eating.mark we told her to cancel she then lied and said that it had only been 15 minutes. Visiting from Los Angeles, in the Denver, NC., area for 2 weeks. Today (January 28, 2023) gave them a try. Absolutely delicious! Had a ham and cheese omelette, bagel, and a blueberry pancake. A+ tasty. Tried a lot of the surrounding restaurants for breakfast (Stacy's, Westlake, Citrus, The Hen & Egg). How I wish I came here first. From now on this is my breakfast restaurant. To put it plainly, our breakfast for 4 was so big, they had us move tables. Butcher Boy's Café is a local, no-nonsense restaurant for just really good breakfast (and maybe lunch and dinner too). We were staying on Lake Norman and both Yelp and our family recommended BBC and we do not regret it. If you're from Florida like we are, you probably have never heard of "liver mush" or "scrapple". I have no words to say other than to TRY IT. It's basically a liver hash and it is SO tasty. Their waffles are huge and crispy. Their sausage LINKS are scrumptious - I would stay away from the patties. They're ok but the sausage links are where it's at. Friendly service and there's a buffet. Butcher Boy's is a local favorite whose Sunday buffet always draws an impressive crowd. The buffet changes from breakfast to lunch right at 11, so I recommend getting there as close to 11 as possible if you're looking to have lunch and ideally avoid the church crowd. The line can easily be out the door and that's a miserable wait in July. Anyways, the magic starts after you get seated and can head to the buffet, which for lunch includes fried chicken (which my dad swears is the best he's ever had), bbq chicken, spinach, macaroni and cheese, white beans, creamed corn, etc. There's also a salad bar, deviled eggs, and rolls. There are quite a few pies to choose from for desert, as well as ice cream. The banana pudding is my personal favorite, and I highly recommend drizzling some chocolate syrup on top to add to the insanity. The biggest downside of Butcher Boy's, particularly in the height of summer, is the temperature inside the restaurant. The heat was borderline unbearable for my parents and several of the other patrons around us, who were complaining and asking the waitresses if the air conditioning vents were working. Considering the temperature in the dining area, I can't imagine how hot it must be in the kitchen, where I hope they are taking precautions to keep from season those big tubs of buffet food with sweat. Rumor is that the owner is aware, but doesn't want to replace the a/c unit, though I cannot confirm or deny the truth of that. I do recommend giving Butcher Boy's a try, though keep my recommendations in mind: get there early to avoid the crowd if going on Sunday, and consider avoiding on a 100 degree day as the restaurant's a/c system is inadequate. They don't always have the buffet, and have a traditional menu as well (though I have honestly never seen it... I always go for the buffet). read more

The food is very good but this place used to be amazing. Customer service was amazing and the general feel of the place felt like a genuine family ran place. But now things here have completely changed. This place feels more cooperate than McDonald's. If you order the butcher boys special (a breakfast plate) after a certain time you will not be able to get grits with it. Not a big deal until you realize they will still charge you full price and not even throw in an extra biscuit to make up for it after asking. I can only imagine what other things are wrong with the menu and the service. 5 years ago they would have thrown a gold bar into your food if you had asked them. Such a disappointment. Usually large crowds with the lot filled with not very expensive or new cars at lunch time and breakfast times with newer and nicer cars added to the Sunday mix. Sometimes I drive by at dinner time and there are some cars there and other times none. I'm glad I finally went. This is a true country working man's joint. I know women work and work hard but they were not among the customers when I went. The staff come to your table to take your order but most folk gravitate or are pulled to the buffet. I didn't have it but I I did take a look and the fried chicken looked pretty good. Also featured were non fried chicken, meat in gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes and other items. I didn't see the price but whatever it was it didn't scare away the customers. Our lunch was good and the tater tots I ordered with it were cooked to a greasy perfection. The only confusion was exiting. To leave you were corralled into a lane to the cash register. The long line of people bunched into the people streaming and one has to navigate the currents to get to the cash register and then the food! This was our second time at the dinner buffet. The first time was several months ago and it was great so we assumed this time would be no different. But this last Friday night dinner buffet wasn't that good. Food looked unappetizing and didn't taste good. The meat and gravy looked questionable (beef had a strange texture) and the fried spaghetti was dry. Really the only thing I liked was the salad bar, fried chicken and a cherry cake. We really should've checked it out before even sitting down. The people behind us ordered from the menu and their food looked good. If we go again, that's probably what we'll do. The quality of the buffet food isn't consistent from one day to the next. Service was quick, tho, and our waitress was quick to refill our drinks and pick up the dirty dishes. read more

The food on the buffet is fresh and perfectly cooked. No soggy wet eggs here. I love the bacon, link sausage, home fries, cheese grits, and blueberry cheese danish. Also their cinnamon buns.
