Hey Shannon, I am not sure where to start, other than saying that I am extremely disappointed with the haircut I received from your shop. I specifically told the barber who did my cut that I did not want a military cut since that seems to be the only cut barbers can do with my hair in San Diego. I asked to take some of the length off the top (Half an inch), and to use a number 2 guard on the sides while blending the top with the sides. However, the barber did not follow any of those instructions and proceeded to scalp me giving me a bizarre, lopsided mess. What was cut off was well over two inches from the top and the barber used a 1 guard on the sides. The barber also failed to blend the side where the natural part is, making it appear as though they didn't know how to blend the cut at all. I was a bit concerned when the barber never once had me face the mirror so I could observe what was being done. It was the first time I had ever been to a shop that doesn't allow you to watch what is being done. Hence why I was unable to speak up with regard to the length being cut from the top. I should have known something was up when my cut was finished within less than ten minutes when my previous barber took at least 35-40 minutes to ensure everything was symmetrical to my face and that I didn't end up looking like a complete idiot. I came to your shop looking for an alternative to my high end shop because I just couldn't justify the cost any longer, given the length of my hair. But it seems the old saying may have been right, "You get what you pay for." Fortunately, my hair grows very quickly so I will need to find someone who can properly fix the chop job that was done at your shop. I had hoped I had found a new place to get my hair cut, but I don't know if Butch's is the place for me based on my first visit. Thanks. read more

I've been coming here since 2020 when I was stationed in the Navy. Even during lockdown , service was easy, and has always been relatively affordable. Since moving back here after leaving the Navy, this has always continued to be my go-to spot in the neighborhood. I always book with Maria, and she is excellent. Despite rising costs of inflation, they always find ways to provide excellent value. They have a fridge full of complimentary drinks, so you can enjoy an IPA or whatever you like while you get your hair cut, as part of the cost. They also do a hot towel and massage after shaving your neck, after the haircut. Booking is super easy, too! It's as simple as going on the website, selecting your barber, and booking a time within the next week. I found Butch's Barber Shop over a year ago and after trying every single barbershops in hillcrest and some around Mission Valley, I was relieved and super grateful to have found Shannon and Maria. So straight to the point. They have a website which you can easily book an appointment on or give them a call. I usually just txt them since I've been a loyal customer. An excellent option to be a regular at in the Balboa Park area. Maria and Shannon both do such a great job! A regular haircut is $30 and $25 for military. They also include a complimentary hot towel, massager, and straight razoring.
