Finally, I called a different number, talked to Sam in person, and he not only apologized profusely for the communication problem, but also did more than we expected to resolved the original issue. A swing and a miss, but then a home run. Sam also was kind enough to have the car sent down to the Elgin office to close the deal, so we wouldn't have to go back up to Waukegan for it. Good folk to deal with. I counted up the cars I've purchased in my long life. It's 27 for me and my family. This was one of the most seamless and satisfying experiences. That there were a couple of glitches wasn't as important as that they were remedied immediately.

Upon getting it towed to my mechanic, over $2000 of repairs are needed to just make it safe to drive. The manager was dismissive and asked me "what do you want me to do?" and offered me no respectable viable compensation for the headache. The $200 check he offered isn't going to make a dent in the $1100 I've already spent on tires and battery and the $2000 more I will be spending to repair a portion of it. Buyer beware.
