Went to dinner for wife bday with some family members. Reservation mentioned her bday and said they would make notation,didn't happen.We ordered chicken Marsala and side rigatoni with Marsala sauce,others ordered shrimp parm with angel hair pasta with red sauce. Dinner arrived and pasta dishes were wrong, sent back to to fix and came back in 3 min. They washed the sauce off rigatoni and put Marsala on. Same with angel hair pasta. I noticed right away because still had pieces tomato on pasta and angel hair mixed. Manager came by asked if all good and I mentioned what I felt. Rather than listen to my complaint he challenged me with ,how long you in restaurant business,how do you know how long to cook pasta. Totally unprofesionnal.I think he caught himself and took pastas off bill,that said was a little taken aback by response. A lot of hype about this place but for me it was just meh. It felt outdated and a bit closed in. The service was less than par and the food at best was just ok. Came here as a party of 4 on a Saturday right before the dinner rush. Didn't have a reservation but they were able to squeeze us in, as it filled up quickly as the night went on. I realllllly wanted to love this place! We came here once literally 10 years ago so this was a 2nd try, a decade later. Safe to say - not much has changed! The decor, furniture, etc is very outdated. The table we had was uneven so we were scared to place our glasses and pitchers down. Cleanliness wasn't that great either - my water glass had mouth prints on them so it wasn't clean at sit down. The food in general was VERY good, just a little on the salty side. I loved how this was family style with the option to order half portions (40% cheaper than full price) Service was unfortunately slow. My husband and I had a great dinner at Butera's in Sayville on New Years Day. We were greeted warmly by 2 young ladies and a gentleman and seated immediately even though we arrived 30 minutes before our timed reservation. We were given a plate of bruschetta and a basket of assorted breads. Our waitress Meghan was awesome. The meals are "family style" but they will also serve individual plates at a 40% less than the price of the family dinners. We decided on the shrimp parm for the 2 of us. There was enough shrimp for 3 or 4 people. The shrimp were colossal size. We did get a side of pasta for $10. Not sure if the gentleman that greeted us is the owner. But he did go to every table wishing us a happy new year. When we left he thanked us for coming out on such a cold night and again wished us a happy new year. We will definitely return. read more

My boyfriend and I went there for the first time yesterday I say the food was absolutely amazing. The very nice and sweet and attentive. She was really great with us... Then I went to the bathroom. My positivity ended there. The place is very dirty. It could use a good paint job. The bathroom hasn't been cleaned in forever. The moldings the door the fingerprints absolutely disgusted me. Sadly, we will not be back because of that I could only imagine what the rest of the place behind the scenes looks like if that's the way they present themselves to the public. My husband and I came here with the Sayville theater movie package. Such a lovely experience. Food was great and portions are large. My husband had the chicken parm and I had pasta with vodka sauce. SO good. Doesn't taste like the same old rotation of Italian food, it really felt homemade. Our waitress was excellent as well. Very personable and sweet. I so wanted to be giving a better review, but my last experience was lackluster. Let me even that out by saying I've gone there and had great meals and even held an event there once, and thanks to Jerry they were all top notch. But this last outing for a birthday just fell flat. So this review and rating is for this specific occasion, not my overall perception of them. To be fair, let's start with the good. The veal chop caprese was the star of the show. When I saw the price I thought this better be a massive chop, but instead it was two massive chops for slightly over what you would pay for one chop at another spot. The sauce was amazing, the veal was well cooked, and the breading was delicious and fried to perfection. The hummus with bruschetta flavors to start the meal was excellent. Continuing with the average points of the meal, the lobster ravioli special was good, not great. The dessert of a rainbow cheesecake was also good, not great. But, kudos to them for comping it for the birthday. It definitely ended an otherwise subpar experience on a high note. Now the rough spots. The vodka sauce which is usually very good was bland and disappointing. The chicken was tough and over cooked. The shrimp were meh at best. After waiting ten minutes, we had to ask for bread. And, when we arrived, the hostess continued a conversation with a waitress about tables instead of addressing the customer. For a while. Just a series of hospitality and service fails and a lackluster plate that really dragged the whole night down. That being said, it won't stop me from giving them another shot in the future. But I won't be racing back any time soon. read more

Located in the heart of the charming and historical bayside Village of Sayville, Butera's is a family owned restaurant and bar renoun for their family style dishes. My dad, brother, and extended family recently dined here during lunch time. Being in the heart of the Village of Sayville, Butera's is ideal for that nice meal to complement a relaxing stroll on Main Street. Its front entrance overlooks Main Street not too far from the historic Rexell Pharmacy Building. The back entrance overlooks a Village of Sayville parking lot. This is the door where we arrived inside Butera's. At the time of our visit, there was zero issue with finding a parking spot. From the back entrance, Butera's looks like it is incorporated inside a professional building. But Inside it is a different environment. From the moment that I stepped inside and set eyes on the bar close to the door and the dining room straight ahead, I felt like we were entering a historic inn. I could picture George Washington sitting here at the bar back in the day that wooden ships graced the Great South Bay. The restaurants wooden floor, wooden chairs and table with the walls and lighting fit in more with the history and charm of the Village of Sayville than it did Italy. The service was solid. The Hostess seated our party of six right away. Throughout the meal, the service was consistently solid. The spacious table gave us plenty of room to eat. During lunch when the South Shore sunlight lit up the room, I ordered off the lunch menu. Those huge tasty family dining portions were nonexistent on my plate. At the price of $12, I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich off the lunch menu. It featured a breaded chicken breast, marinara, and melted mozzarella on Focaccia bread and came with fries. It tasted three stars solid. With the food, I drank a bottomless soda. Overall, I thought that Butera's was solid. If we happen to return here when I visit Long Island, I will most likely order the family dining eggplant parmesan. read more

Our family recently went to Butera's restaurant following a funeral service for a family member. They were very accommodating as our headcount was rather fluid. Their service was excellent as was the myriad of dishes the family enjoyed. The food was delicious and very well prepared. Thanks to the owners and staff especially Gerry and Joe. Ambiance: Okay friendly greeters quick to seat with reservation. Bread and water filled right away. Asked if they had an Arnold Palmer to start as I add a shot of vodka. I was told of course. Got unsweetened iced tea with tiny slice of lemon. Wine for wife was good. Ordered Goat Cheese salad. $32 for salad for two. For dinner we ordered chicken shrimp in vodka sauce. Pasta was too too soft like it was in water for two days. Vodka sauce needs to be reinvented. It did not taste like a proper vodka sauce. Drinks ran dry and sat empty for a while. I had to stop waiter for more drinks as he checked on food after delivered but not looking at drinks. He was a bit overwhelmed with his job and never was attentive as he should be. Truly Mediocre service. I ordered a coke as a second drink because the original drink was not ordered. After dinner I asked for a double espresso and I was given a single in a single serving espresso cup but I was charged for double. No spoon provided with the espresso to stir sugar in. I again needed to ask for spoon. Then after waiting for waiter I flagged him down and was given a large tea spoon pulled from table vs a proper espresso spoon. I could barely stir spoon so I needed to spin spoon in order to mix coffee. Lastly. There is a gentleman walking around looking to clean the tables the entire time you are there. He stopped at my table 4 times to clear table of items and showed up three more times than my waiter to check on us. Please let your customers eat. Our large salad was half done and he was looking to take it and then kept trying to take it's the moment we are finished. Let your customers breathe. Let them finish and enjoy the moment of eating dinner. That person walk the entire dining room which is fine but the customers should not be interrupted through out the meal. You make it feel like you are rushing us out and no one likes being watched in order to clear an uncluttered table. This is my second time here and the service was the same both times. 3 stars is truly the best I could give. It could've been a lot better. read more

Service was ok. The food was bad. We ordered an appetizer of mozzarella frittas and got mozzarella caprese. They did come back and bring out the right appetizer. But they were very greasy. When we got our food it tasted ok, but it was very, very salty. I had to stop eating it! It was just to salty for me. We have been to the one in Bay Shore a few times and love the place. We had a delicious meal and great service! we hadn't been to Butera's fo a while. We food the decor extremely tired. worn table and the floor was all scuffed up and did not appear clean. we were seated in a corner table by the window. The window sill was sprinkle with dust and tiny dead bugs. the blinds had a heavy layer of dust and vent above us was dripping in dust. it was obvious that the place was not cleaned in a long while as this was not dust and such accumulated over a day or two. Great dinner last night at Butera's. Was extremely early for our reservation but staff did everything they could to seat us earlier, which we appreciated. Menu prices are listed as family style prices. Would love if they added individual prices in there as well. A bread basket is always brought out with an additional dish of hummus. Two dishes - can't beat that! Yummy as always. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried calamari. It was a little burnt (see photo) but was nonetheless delicious. I ordered an individual potion of the penne a la vodka and my boyfriend ordered the individual portion of steak Gorgonzola with cheese (his favorite Butera's dish). Not a huge fan of their pasta (sauce is always chunky) but it was still pretty good. Plate was small so it was hard to spread the sauce around. We didn't eat dessert here. Not a lot of chocolate options. Would love to see a chocolate cake added on! The manager (?) was extremely nice. This was one of the worst dining experiences. It started with ordering two bottles of wine for 7 people the waiter put out dirty soap scum filled glasses I sent them all back. He then came back with slightly better glasses and just put the bottles of wine in the middle of the table... didn't taste me on it or pour to any guests. I felt like I was at a buffet or something not a family style italian restaurant. I passed out plates and served the food as well to my whole party. I would have let some of these things slide if the food was decent but it was one of the worst tasting italian meals i have ever had. The rigatoni vodka pasta tasted like chef boyardee due to the weird bacon flavor throughout. The chicken parm tasted like they dumped a whole can of kraft parm on top. My wife and I, along with friends recently ate at Butera's in Sayville. The restaurant is spacious and very inviting. It has well appointed features and decorations. The staff and general manager were very friendly, professional and courteous. I can't say enough about the food. Everyone at our table, loved everything that we ordered. Beside very large portions, the food was amazingly delicious. This is up there with the best Italian food that I ever had. It could be the best that I ever had and I have been around for a long time. Salad was fresh, crisp, served on a chilled plate with dressing and croutons. Dinner was served warm. Pasta was delicious chicken sausage and cheese. Dessert was delightful. Our experience was fine. Nothing better or worse. The Rigatoni Butera and the baked clams were the standouts, they were both excellent. However, the mozzarella fritta was completely covered in oil, and the prosciutto didn't taste fresh. My fiancé had the stuffed lobster special, which was subpar. Both of the Prosecco's we drank were incredibly sweet and hard to finish. Our server was very pleasant, not a bad thing to say about her. However, we likely won't return. read more

Yes it was a hot summer night but when our very friendly waitress Krysta told us about the special appetizer soup of fennel,tomato & spinach bisque with pesto. It was AMAZING..fresh tomatoes mixed with tastiest fennel & delicious spinach leaves. I had veal lasagna for dinner which,while I consider myself a better than average home cook,I never make lasagna because I'm the only one who likes it. My husband suggested it & I was again so pleased with the crumbled veal sausage, layers of lasagna oozing with the ricotta mozzarella mixture..so good. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday. In summary, the food was good, the ambiance could use some help to match the food. The restaurant's entrance is the form a parking lot. It's really unassuming. The building just looks like a standard office building and the inside is a little outdated. We started with the calamari, lifeguard style, and it was the highlight of the meal. Lots of flavor, great spicy, crunchy and tender all at the same time. I also had a coconut martini which was yummy. I live the toasted coconut floating in the center. This was also flavorful and not too strong, but clearly had alcohol in it. The restaurant is family style, but also offers kids' meals. Two of my boys got pizza and the other pasta marinara. The pizza was great. I worry sometimes places zhuzh it up and then it doesn't appeal to my kids. But this was great and the kiddos were content. The amount of food is a lot too. My oldest finished his plate, but it was a feat. As for the adults, the three of us split the chicken and shrimp vodka sauce and a house salad. It was enough for all three of us for sure, with some to take home. The salad was good and fresh. The pasta was ok. Not as flavorful as our app. The chicken and shrimp were nice and plentiful. To my surprise though the food really surpassed expectations, and some of the negative experiences mentioned in other reviews seemed to miss us as well. Perfectly fried and no fishy taste. -Scampi Limoncello: 4/5, never had or even seen this dish as an option before. But it was freakin delicious. Portion was a bit small for the table but it was very good. -Chicken Parm: 5/5, again kind of a staple at an Italian restaurant so wasn't expecting anything great. This was very VERY good. Huge portion, the cutlets were cooked perfectly, and the cheese was great. -Penne alla vodka: 3.5/5, had better had worse. Definitely good but nothing to write home about. -Chicken Scarpiello: 3.5/5, again not great but definitely good. The chicken was a bit bland but the sausage & potato were very good. Great for groups! We came here for a christening and the food, service and atmosphere was great. There was a 4 course meal, salad, pasta, entree and dessert. Soda was included too. We had the whole back room, they sat us in a horseshoe shape so we could all talk. Service was awesome and the food was delish. Def recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable, semi private, max 30 person location. read more
