Fearful of what I might find here, as small, resort locales often possess oligopolistic control over pricing and quality, I ventured through the door at McGill's, a local staple, and ordered the Great American breakfast. The quality of ingredients and preparation were all spot on. Bacon was triple crispy as I requested. Hash browns were made with butter, as I insisted. Eggs were cooked perfectly, neither rubbery nor slimy. Magnificent was the French toast. Served as something resembling a German log roll, it was crispy on the outside, tasty throughout, and yet remained free from being bread-y. I savored every bite of this, a real highlight. You can substitute this for the muffin for a $2 fee or thereabouts. Do that, and you won't be disappointed. Two areas that could be improved: the pancake syrup, and while it tasted fine, was definitely corn syrup based and low quality. I humbly think that the owner could easily charge $1.75 more and offer the real thing. Further, the orange juice wasn't great, acceptable, but far from a real fresh squeezed caliber. The hostess forced me to sit at the bar when tables were open. Fortunately for me, a spectacularly responsive and friendly other server rescued me, provided me a table and provided the utmost in service for a breakfast styled establishment of this ilk. She was also food knowledgeable as her husband and her own one of the truly great restaurants in town, further down the street on Elk Avenue. Pricing was just right. Location is fantastic as well. I plan to return, but may bring my own syrup and orange juice. Thumbs up for McGill's. read more

Poached canned salmon and undercooked burnt hashbrowns. Reba was the inattentive server who didn't seem to care about a single top. Never asked how the food was, no drink refill offers, instead the table beside me got 7 mins of local gossip that I really didn't want to know about. I get Chad cheated on his wife, but there's a reason he's a chad and I'm eating at McGill something. First and last time at this establishment. Maybe if you are local and a foreigner they will provide stellar service. This was just horrible. Oh yeah. Make sure you ask for your check. Waited another 20 mins on that. Just walk up to the register and it will make them pay attention if they forgot you. The students behind the bar should help Reba out more if she can't handle a one top. read more

This place is so cute and definitely seems like the best traditional style breakfast in the area. We came on a Saturday around brunch time, we were told it would be a 20 minute wait for the four of us, but we ended up being sat within 10. We got a great seat right by the window, at the front, which was nice because the restaurant is pretty hot. The service was fast and great, I tried the English muffin breakfast sandwich, which was so tiny for $11, even smaller than my fist. I also tried the French toast because it sounded so unique and interesting, so I got a side of it, it was Really good. - more like a fried roll with crunchy crust then your traditional slice of French toast but it was really good and the syrup was so yummy. My friend got an order of french fries and they were unexpectedly delicious and good quality, we also really liked the bloody Mary we got (although we wish it had come with bacon) My other friend really liked his margarita salad, we loved that it came with a salt rim on the bowl too! McGill's is a Crested institution. Great food, generous portions, friendly service. We have sampled most of the menu and can vouch for the eggs benedict (with salmon!), corned beef hash, pancakes, French toast, and omelettes are all exceptional. McGill's has a classic diner feel - nothing fancy because the emphasis is on the food and service. No visit to Crested is complete without breakfast at McGill's to fortify one for a day on the slopes. read more

This place rocked. Very little frills diner that makes some quality food. We had the Haystack and the breakfast burrito. My fiancé and I easily could have just split the haystack and left full but I'm glad we got the breakfast burrito because the green chile is truly some of the best I've had in CO. Be warned, it has some HEAT. I'd recommend the burrito with the hashbrowns because they make the hashbrowns CRISPY and it adds awesome texture to the burrito. So McGills is uh-mazing. This breakfast spot has everything. Coffee, am cocktails, gluten free, vegan options, non-vegan classic breakfasts, real maple syrup, and even some fiery green chili. We loved it so much we went two mornings in a row. The husbeast got the New Yorker, side of biscuits and gravy (bonus you can get the gravy with vegan sausage!). I got the breakfast burrito with veggie sausage and topped with vegetarian green chili. It was huge! Highly recommend McGills. It gets busy! There is nice patio seating too. read more

I was satisfied with the welcome I received, considering we are a minority family & "received many stares by many tourists." The ambiance at this restaurant is too tier! This breakfast place is fantastic, it is one of our favorite places to get breakfast in Created Butte!! The food is always great, from a classic eggs to the french toast it is always great! I love to sit at the bar at this spot because you get fast service and can see then making your food! The house made green chili is so awesome, and if you like green chili this might too your list! The breakfast potatoes are amazing, as well as the hash browns. The hash browns are classic and are exactly what you are looking for! My girlfriend had the French toast with bacon. It was crispy on the outside, but super fluffy on the inside. We came here for breakfast before skiing on a Saturday morning. Didn't have to wait at all and the waitress was super friendly. They have a full breakfast menu and we decided to start with a chocolate chip buttermilk pancake This was sooo tasty and we splurged and went with the homemade maple syrup which was definitely worth it. Next i had the Biscuits and Gravy which was also very yummy. The biscuits taste like they just came out of the oven and have the perfect combo of buttery and flakey. The gravy had a little much pepper but was still very delicious. My friend had the Torta which I didn't try but he had only good things to say about it. The portions were very large and I definitely had leftovers which is always nice. We will definitely be coming back here for breakfast next time we're in crested butte. read more

We were in town for vacation and my brother recommended we try McGill's for breakfast one morning. We got there around 10 am and had about a 20 - 25 minute wait for a party of two. I promise, if you have to wait it is absolutely worth it! We ended up being seated at the bar so we could take in all the action on the flat top grill. The coffee was very good, and always my initial barometer for a good breakfast spot. I ended up ordering the Haystack and my husband had the corned beef hash. Both were incredibly good, and huge, huge servings. Way more than I could begin to eat. The corn beef hash was made from scratch and was so yummy. And the Haystack was everything I love in a breakfast. Biscuit, sausage, hash browns, runny eggs (you choose how they are prepared) and gravy. Just the perfect breakfast!
