We ordered the hariyari chicken, saag paneer, chicken chettinand, lamb biriyani and pakora. The pakora is crispy and not heavy. Every dish has an amazing depth of flavor. The lamb is so tender. Fast efficient service. Definitely a new favorite restaurant for us! read more

I dislike writing this, but Nope...was here when it was Nalas and back now as it's Butter Chicken. Service is poor at best. Food is great and flavorful, but the front of house kills the experience. You'll get better service at Karim's in Old Delhi. Seems same owner group, was really hoping for a better experience. They charge 4% for use of a credit card. In today's experience, we walked in at 1:42. Note I am on crutches and have a large knee brace on. We waited at the cashier stand for 2 minutes. Then a server tired to guide us to a booth. With my knee that is a no go. Had to talk him into placing us at a table. He then can back twice with a pitcher of water (no glasses mind you). Then he asked if we wanted the buffet or al cart. We asked for menus and that seemed to confuse him. Then waited 5 minutes for him to bring out the menus (and he finally brought the glasses for water). We then waited another 17 minutes for him to take our order. Now this would be acceptable if the place was busy. We were one of 5 tables. And all but us were doing the buffet and of the 4 doing the buffet, 3 were done and just conversing. When he did come to take our order he brought the handheld POS, but did not enter anything. Had to come back twice to verify our order. Food was delivered by food runners. Never say our server again until he came and tried to collect the check. Had to ask for water, to go containers and the receipt. He left to grab the containers and then proceeded to hover awaiting for the payment. He almost seemed insistent to take the CC, but I paid cash. As I realize this is a huge overhead for smaller restaurants. But at a 4% charge for using a CC, this is the highest I have seen in the TC area. So pretty sure it not a pass thru of their fees, but a mark up. He also tied to say the cash amount was $30 and the CC amount was $32.56. This latter amount is the tax amount. So actual bill is $32.56. While the food was great, the service will keep us from going back. Which is the same reason we never went back to Nalas. read more

So glad they have expanded their menu to include different protein options! We stopped in for dinner. Large restaurant that was pretty empty when we were there (early dinner, 2 other parties). Service was good and food was good and portions were healthy. We got the butter chicken and Rogan lamb Josh. Butter chicken was classically good, but the lamb was phenomenal. I love spicy, so would probably ask for spicier than their "spicy". read more

Amazing food! Just got back from India, so my expectations were very low. This was a pleasant surprise, the filter coffee truly took me back to India days. Madras curry is spot on, and I can't believe I m saying this but the sambar is better than most South Indian restaurants in Minneapolis area. Hope they keep up with the quality. Update: Nala's kitchen is an all vegetarian South Indian restaurant. Being a vegetarian I love that of course. We had their Rava Masala Dosa and Masala Dosa, which were delicious! The dosas themselves were perfect, but I did miss the usual tang in the sambhar I've had at other restaurants serving dosas. The sambhar had a milder dal taste rather than thin and tangy. Same with the potato masala, and chutneys, while they were good the spice was more on the mild side. That being said, everything tasted fresh and came out hot. And actually the less spice in the food made everything more light and digestible so that was a plus. Plenty of parking as this is part of strip mall. Service was quick and the servers also have the devices that take your order and your credit card right at the table. They don't need to walk back and forth. Definitely will be back read more

The masala dosa is a winner! Huge crispy lentil crepe, crispy on the edges, a little softer in the middle - just how I like it. It comes with potatoes, sambar, coconut sauce and a light creamy tomato sauce. The flavors were perfect, and mildly spiced so you get just a tingle of flavor without burning your lips. This is my second trip to Nala's. Indians like myself can be finicky. It's especially amusing when you consider how many people come from different parts of India and come to a place like Nala's which emphasizes South Indian foods. Vegetarian foods. My guests today are from Punjab and they have very sophisticated pallettes. The have different expectations than I do. They really enjoy Nala's. The spice level is right for them and the varieties are generally very tasty. Me? I like making Uttapam and Dhosa a bit differently. But that story is for another time... Because it's a story of a Mom who makes some phenomenal South Indian dishes. What did we order? I ordered the vegetable Uttapam with extra onions. Our appetizer was onion somosas. The guests ordered a Paneer Khadai, a mixed Tiffin Platter, and Garlic Naan. Overall it was very good. The Onion Somosas were interesting. Like when you were in college and discovered Philo dough and caramelized onions. That is not how somosas are made. read more

I'm an omnivore who can tell you that you won't miss any meat when eating at Nala's. * Summary of restaurant = really solid South Indian cuisine, which is vegetarian. Some no onion / no garlic options for Jains. * Dosas = are very popular and highly recommended as they are crisp and come in a variety. There's the very common Masala Dosa but so many more variations. The sambar (soup) and accompanying chutneys (sauces) round out the dosa dishes. * Also recommended are Dal Tadka and Saag Paneer. * Chai = robust in spices and rich in milk / excellent way to end the meal / or you can take it to go * Service = has been consistently warm & kind * Value = plentiful food for price I've only been here twice but look forward to trying more dishes when I return. read more

Visited restaurant couple times, good food. Ordered catering for a party. Food was delivered late, not sure when the food was cooked most of it spoiled after few hours.
