My favorites are probably the saag paneer and the special chicken biryani thats almost hot enough to make me sweat. If you're looking for ambiance, it's probably not your place. By far the best Indian food around. Despite there being so many options in the area, this place is top of the list. I've always done carryout. The menu is extensive, authentic and well priced. The wait times have been very reasonable. Meals we've ordered: samosas, chicken tikka masala, plain naan, rice, paneer 65 and chicken 65, mango and sweet lassi's and the chicken biryani. The food is always hot and the the spice and heat level is perfect. I'm not sure the deal with dining in. But carryout is amazing. Hands down the best Indian food in all the land! Bio: Vegetarian, who loves different cuisines and want to have a good gastronomical experience. First the good stuff. Most of the items you order on the menu tastes delicious. They have a very wide variety of dishes ranging from Indian chaat, appetizers, tiffin, entree, dessert, cold fruit shake, drinks and cake. What we tried and liked(absolute 5 star): paapdi chaat. Delicious and fresh. Tasty. Apparently they are known for their chaat. Tried and liked enough to give 4 stars: Samosa chaat: samosa wasn't crispy and fresh, it had a mushy taste as it might have been pre-made for the evening and sitting there in the gravy. Taste was fine. Chole batura: Chole tasted decent (caution on spice level, their medium spicy might be spicy enough for your taste bud), Bhatura was a disappointment. The traditional big fluffy bhatura was missing but instead some odd shaped bread like bhatura was given. So that's that. Tried and liked enough to give 3 stars: Spring dosa: was expecting the vegetables inside the dosa to be stir fried and then put on the dosa. But instead the vegetables had a rawish taste to it with no flavor in it. So this dosa in general didn't meet my expectations and not flavorful. The chutneys on the side tried to compensate for the taste but not completely. Sambhar on the side was OK, not too exemplary but serves the purpose. Spicy chutney on the contrary gave a nice little kick. Tried and disappointed (2 star): Onion rava dosa: Very big disappointment. Tasted sub-par, little burnt. This could also be to do with chef forgetting this order and trying to make up for it hurriedly, maybe. Anyhow, stay away on this one. Ups: faster service if you can ignore the order they forgot; price point Ok Downs: noisy, at least was crowded on a Friday night when we visited. Tip: there are some items on the menu which might not be ready to order as it is subject to availability. Pesaruttu upma is one such item. Would like to come back and try this dish. read more

$10 All You Can Eat lunch buffet? Need I say more??? Love this spot! My boss took me here on my first day as an intern nearby, and I am hooked. All self serve for lunch so not much service except for water and clearing dishes but it's honestly fine. Butter chicken is to die for and so are the desserts. Fav lunch spot! read more

As of my visit in early 2020, this is Nawabi Hyderabadhouse Biryani Palace and under new management, although some of the exterior signage is inconsistent. I was impressed by the clean and relatively upscale interior as well as the variety of both meat (mostly chicken) and vegetarian dishes in the lunch buffet. The food itself was good, although many of the items were a bit too salty (chicken 69, cauliflower). I can't speak to the dinner menu yet, but I expect I'll return to try it soon. read more

The Gobi Manchuria was not "fresh" according to my husband, however besides that we both thought the flavor was on point! The Samosa Chaat was different than we've had it before, more of a soupy consistency. Not saying good or bad just different. We had the Kadai Paneer for main course, I felt like the flavor wasn't what my taste buds were searching for at the moment so I didn't love it, so we took most of it to go. I'm hoping maybe the flavors will settle better over night and will have the leftovers tomorrow. As for service they were very busy, which I believe is the norm so not getting water refills in a timely manner was not acceptable to me. We had to wave down a waiter each time our glass was empty. My biggest disappointment was seeing Tiramisu on the dessert menu and then when I requested it I was informed they do not have it. So instead I'm going to Lunds and Byerlys to satisfy this need. Seriously good food ... almost every item was good and a large variety on the buffet. I have been in the MSP metro for close to 4 years now lived about 1/2 mile away from Kadai and yet visited this place only 3-4 times so far. Probably because I heard not so good comments about this place from my co-worker, but today after my 4th visit my opinions have changed. Each of the visit - the food at Kadai is consistently good and lip-smacking good. South Indian: Really good south indian food - 5/5 - probably the best Rasam i have had North Indian: Good, but can be improved - 4/5 - all the items were very good, not excellent, but very good, better than most places in the metro. Desserts: Awesome - they make some moist cakes and also indian desserts. Overall - I think I would rate this place on par with Bawarchi & Bay Leaf as being #1 indian restaurant in the metro For my american friends who are looking for formal dinner places and excellent service - India house and India Palace is much better where the spice levels are toned down and service levels are more formal. This restaurant is located in a very convenient location for a large desi community of the north west suburbs of the twin cities. The seating is adequate but can be crampy if it is full. The ambient lighting can be bit too bright if you sitting at the wrong side of the table. There are several choices on the menu most of which dont seem very different and can actually be confusing. The naan bread is made fresh and is really tasty. rest of the curries are pretty similar to each other and no different than many other places in the twin cities in taste and texture. The servers are helpful. We like this place for an evening out with the family. Will go again. read more

The buffet has all my favorite items: chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, chicken curry, daal, sambar, and dosa. It's rare to see dosa on a buffet, so this was a treat for me. The flavors were typical delicious Indian food. Nothing to complain about. I didn't get a chance to try the extensive bakery items displayed across from the buffet. I'm surprised that so many reviews comment about bad service. When I went, the soft-spoken host was very attentive and polite. My finished plates were cleared right away. Food is good but does not outweigh lack of service. Be prepared to seat yourself and flag someone down every time you need something. No sever assigned to each table. Very unorganized. Charged someone else's bill to our credit card and dropped our card at wrong table. Bill was short $3 and they made us pay cash for the difference as we waited long time for them to sort out. Seriously? Never going back. PS - don't use the restrooms either (horribly dirty). Recommend Bay Leaf India in Eden Prairie instead. Food is more flavorful there and less chaotic. read more

Arguably one of the worst Indian restaurants I've been to in my life. Went on a Sunday night, as if that makes any difference. Upon entering, there was no wait staff to greet us or seat us at a table, so we kind of just meandered our way and found a place to sit. We were haphazardly served glasses of water, and then asked by a waiter in an incomprehensible dialect what we would like to eat. We decided to try the dosa, given that several of our friends who ate there recommended it. We also ordered butter chicken as a backup in case the dosa didn't work out. Instead of our items arriving in sync, there were 10 minute gaps in which our food arrived in piecemeal. Totally not acceptable. Some of the food that was coming out was not even warm, not to mention the food that had been sitting got cold. The quality of the dosa was bland at best. I've never eaten it before, and I'm sure I'd be able to find 10 other places around that would serve it better. The butter chicken was too creamy and was also lukewarm. Besides the food, here's what got me: we paid the bill and left cash on the table with the check since no one was around to pick it up or even thank us for eating. As we were heading out the door, the same incompetent waiter asked us why we are leaving, as that we had not paid yet! I told him to look on the table for a change instead of playing Minecraft on his phone. read more

Stopped in for the lunch buffet; my expectations were pretty low given that most Indian buffets around here are pretty bland. My expectations were wildly exceeded! There was a good variety, the food was at the correct temperature and, most importantly, the food had significant amount (and variety) of flavor. Not particularly spicy because, well, Minnesota. Butter chicken, chicken biryani, onion pancake, saag paneer, Kadai chicken were all excellent. It's definitely an odd set up as others have mentioned. I was seated and then never had any contact with another human until I paid. It's just sort of assumed you are having the buffet (not sure if ordering anything off the menu is even an option at lunch?). For drinks, it's help yourself from the beverage refrigerator. You don't get a check; I just wandered up to the register, did some hand waving, and a guy came over and asked what I had. None of that bothered me, I just didn't know the process. My Mom has been asking me, ever since she moved into her apartment last Fall, to try out this Indian restaurant all but 300 feet away from her building. Tonight we got some takeout, a shrimp curry and a yellow dal. It came with two large containers of basmati rice. Wow! What amazing flavors! The server had an ipad to take the order. Which was good to see as it would eliminate errors. They have no beer or wine so I ordered Coke. Which was delivered in a Can. So a can of coke not even fountain coke. Had to ask the server for a glass & some ice. Which was another 10 minutes after several reminders. The ice was like hospital ice. It was not even ice cubes. It was like crushed ice chips you get in hospitals. Everyone placed their orders & food came in Multiple times which is understandable as we were a large group. But what I do not understand some main course dishes came first and appetizers came later. By the time we were done there were 4 of us whose food was completely forgotten. Nothing no food. We asked about the missing dishes and were told that the kitchen had forgotten to even make them. Some dishes were prepared well. But the Dosa's and Sāmbhar were horrible. Dosa was so bad I could not even eat. Very slow service poor food. Servers & owner wearing filthy clothes. Take my advice do not go to this place. Take your money elsewhere. I believe management to blame here. as they have only one server. I would not be surprised if they only have one person working in the kitchen as well. read more

It was very small and we are intelligent enough to guess why that small. Stopped by here intending to visit Dickie's BBQ - which apparently has closed and been turned into this Indian joint. But when in Rome... I visited during the lunch hour right as the buffet was starting, and I got the buffet to go option. So I can't really review the waitstaff, but the food was hot and fresh and well presented. I sampled all the usual stuff. Chicken Masala, jasmine rice, naan, veggie pakoras, and samosas. I was pleased with all of them. I'm not an indian food expert, but I have it quite often from the indian buffets around town. I found it all to be good. Now it's not my favorite indian joint in the area - I'd prefer Burkha Indian Bistro any day over this place, but it wasn't bad. The only downside was that the cashier didn't know how to work the iPad they were using for a cash register (hooked up to a square care reader) and it took a while for him to figure it out with the manager. read more

Delicious Indian food. Boneless biryani is something to look out for. Indian Chaat is not the greatest but is definitely better than many in the twin cities area. Personally samosa chaat is the best out of all. Curries are pretty decorated as well, including the Gongura Mutton and the Chicken Korma which are brilliantly cooked. Mango lassi is pretty neat as well. To top it all, finish with an Indian Paan, helps digesting the food and leaves a very good taste in your mouth. We came here on a Saturday night to have a quick dinner and hoping to make this place our go to Indian restaurant close to our home. What a mistake! The place was almost empty, only 2 tables were full. When we sat down, the waiter stopped by and said he can only take our order if we wait for 40 mins because the kitchen is so busy. Then we asked if we have to wait the same for a take-out and he said no, which makes no sense. Doesn't that come from the exact same kitchen? Anyhow, we ordered a take-out and waited for about 30 mins. The food was one of the spiciest I have ever had. We couldn't eat half of the chicken biryani because it was at the painful level of spicy. Four of us arrived shortly after 1 pm last Saturday afternoon, our first time at Kadai. Took a while to be seated, but they were busy. Lunch buffet was being served, we asked if that was are only choice and server seating us said yes. Had no idea what price the buffet was/is. Still don't. (Small-sized menus by the entrance have a sign underneath stating the prices have changed - from what is on the small-sized menus!) I was ready to leave, because I like to know the price of what I am eating. But one of our guests said he would pay. So we stayed. Selection was very nice, but oddly set up with desserts in the middle - for no logical reason. We were given a water pitcher and four glasses. No other beverages were offered, though I now see at their website that they do have other beverages. Not going to sell many beverages, if you don't offer them - or a menu! Amazing Lunch Buffet - What makes Kadai really stand out is that the food is non-greasy yet maintains the concentrated flavors of Indian cuisine in all dishes. When I say Indian cuisine, the place offers dishes popular in both South (Idli, Sambar) and North India (Chicken Tandoori). There were at least 10 entrees when I visited in a weekday. Mixed reviews here. The food taste good and is fresh. However, the service is not so good. One server for 20 tables. I feel bad for the poor guy. The only option for soda was sprite and diet coke. Also, no fountain soda and no refill. Who does that these days? Perhaps cheap desi restaurant owners :) Ordered chai for three and only got 1 because they were out of it. Also, was told that they were out of lassi. Huh? Who gets out of lassi. I guess the better way to enjoy this food is to do a takeout. Nice and clean atmosphere. read more

WORSE.SERVICE.EVER. We have given this place so many chances because the food is good here. We have stopped by for the lunch buffet multiple times and every time, the host is just plain aweful. They are super slow and non-friendly. I even tried to do a take out order at 530pm one day and called five times with no answer. My husband stopped by one night to do a take out order and after an hour left without food because they were so slow and disorganized. I have no idea why they are still in business.
