What a great restaurant! We went as a group of 7 for Easter lunch. We did have to wait a little while to be seated, but it wasn't too long. Once we sat down, our waitress was quick to take our drink orders and had them out to us right away. She checked on us several times throughout the meal and kept the table cleared, making sure everything was going well. I really enjoyed the hot buffet and the salad bar was excellent too. There were so many options--ham, mac and cheese, turkey and dressing, chicken fried steak, chicken nuggets, fried fish, brisket, ribs, plenty of sides, hot rolls and more. Dessert did not disappoint either! We had cobbler, buttermilk pie, bread pudding, banana pudding, and of course, plenty of ice cream. Overall, it was such a great value. Gah! We wanted to love it! We tried. The service was good but the food reminded me of an after church potluck. It just wasn't good. The fried chicken was dry, the steak was chewy, and after trying a mouthful of the least seasoned black eyed peas I've ever had, I gave up. The cobblers were edible, but not spectacular. Only vanilla ice cream worked but it was super icy and I'm assuming Mexican vanilla flavor as it has a cinnamon twist to it. We didn't find anything we were inclined to actually finish and the evening after we were all a little ill. It is a smoking deal, so if you have a hearty appetite it is absolutely a good choice, the food is good, nothing to write home about but definitely good and the selections are abundant. From the moment you walk in, you can feel it -- this isn't some corporate chain going through the motions. This place is dialed in. It is probably one of the most put-together restaurants I've ever had the privilege of visiting. Every detail feels intentional. Clean lines, modern touches, spotless floors, organized buffet, upbeat energy -- they hit every mark. The décor has personality without being overdone. It feels like a true family restaurant -- warm, authentic, and welcoming -- but with a level of polish most places never achieve. The service? Exceptional. Real smiles. Real hospitality. You're not just another table. You feel seen and taken care of. Now let's talk about the brisket. Unbelievable. I had to ask how they were doing it, and Mark was more than happy to walk me through his process. When brisket is smoked low and slow -- and they smoke theirs for 20 hours -- here's what happens: * The visible fat cap mostly renders down. * The intramuscular fat melts. * Collagen breaks down into gelatin. * The melted fat soaks deep into the meat fibers. So by the time it hits your plate? You don't see fat. You taste rendered fat and gelatin inside the meat. For $14 all-you-can-eat lunch, I kept waiting for the catch. There isn't one. I probably ate close to a pound and a half of brisket myself and still wanted more. Tender, perfectly seasoned, smoky without being overpowering -- the kind of brisket that makes you stop mid-bite and just nod your head because you know you found something special. You walk out wondering how they're not charging double. Everything about this place reflects pride -- pride in the food, pride in the service, pride in the entire experience. It's consistent. It's clean. It's efficient. And that kind of consistency is rare. This is only my second five-star rating ever. That's how serious I am about it. I ran several hotel buffets in Austin back in the 70-80's I'm really impressed with the butter churn. The presentation variety quality and help all are great. Customers too, people ate what they put on their plates. I use to hate how often full plates of seconds or thirds were left on plates. Eat all you want, eat what you take. read more

Visiting from Maxwell Texas, Our annual Summer Trip to Port Aransas for fishing and visiting the beaches. It was dinner time and we couldn't decide what to eat. The first thing that caught our attention were the reviews that were left about the staff and atmosphere at Butter Churn. When we arrived we had to take some photos outside. Unfortunately we did not take any pictures of the food. Natasha was our server and she was the absolute sweetest. The restaurant was packed by she still came by at the right times to check in on us a table of 4. We truly felt welcomed and enjoyed the food. I would describe the type of food as souther comfort food, buffet style. Personally I served myself the fried catfish with shrimp Mac & cheese with green beans and red potatoes. For dessert I had samples of the banana pudding, pistachio and Oreo fluff with a piece of peach cobbler. My 4 year old loved the mini ice cream cones! Such a fun, lively restaurant with good food and friendly service. The inside is decorated like a western town. There's several stations to get buffet items such as bbq, veggies, salad, dessert, and sides. The food tastes fresh and good and the staff seems to be checking and refilling it all the time. It's also a very busy place - we went on a weekend for lunch! The prices was super reasonable. They also have hilarious Christian tshirts for sale. I made my last trip to Butter Churn today. What happened to this place? They seem to have put the whole box of salt in the vegetable soup. No cheese in the Mac and Cheese. The "Salisbury steaks" were perfectly round tiny circles that definitely came out of the frozen food section, pretty near the sign that say's homemade is better? The fried chicken should have been called dried chicken. I used to LOVE this place but the quality of food never returned after COVID. I didn't eat all day in anticipation of going to Butter Churn after my appointment. If you're hungry for a buffet, go to Golden Corral or a Chinese buffet. $43 for two people, and they have the nerve to ask for a tip. We walked in and amidst a flurry of patrons everywhere, we were instantly greeted by the hostess. They took us to our table and explained how it was a buffet. She pointed out where the hot food was, the salad bar section and desserts. Then she took our drink order and left it for our waiter/waitress. It was well ran. Okay, enough about the great service. The food!!! The streak was great!!! It's medium, but you can get it cooked more. The fried chicken was great and so were all the sides. My salad from the salad bar was very good. While vacationing in Port Aransas, we found this place and stopped in for lunch. It is, basically, an all-you-can-eat Cracker Barrel! There is a lot of seating. Decor is old country store kitsch on the walls. It was clean. Waitstaff were constantly busy seating people, bringing drinks, whisking away dirty dishes. There was a wide variety of salads and entrees to choose for your meal. The lunch price with drink was around $13. read more
