We typically stay away from buffets but the Butter Churn is fantastic! Clean, GREAT service. They were BUSY for a Sunday but we got seated right away. Our waitress did not let our tea glasses even think about being close to empty! She was fantastic! We tasted a little bit of everything and nothing disappointed us! Stopped by this gem while vacationing in Port Aransas and THANK GOD we did because this place is the TRUTH!!! The food is AMAZING!!! Everything from the brisket enchiladas, Mac & cheese, buttered carrots and some delicious desserts. My husband loved the bread pudding. The staff is beyond exceptional, very attentive and personable and I'm from Dallas so I know good customer service when I receive it. One of the ladies even remembered us being from Dallas. They require you to wear gloves when getting your food which is nice & safe. We get good fat & full each time and it only cost $32 for my husband and I. We love going to Butter Churn. The food is good down home cooking. The variety is very good, with the items on the hot bar different each day. We like to go around 3:30, as they change from lunch prices to dinner prices at 4:00. I like their mashed potatoes and gravy, fried fish, and the bread pudding. The lunch cost works out to be $12.50 each, and that is without a drink. With a drink it works out to $15 each. We just order water because if you want to take your drink with you, they charge $.89 for a Styrofoam to go cup. I have never been where they charge for a cup. The servers are very nice and attentive. We witnessed the shift change where the staff got into a big prayer circle. I thought that was very nice. They have Christian music playing and the dining room huge. read more

For Sunday lunch it can be very difficult to find parking & get in, so plan accordingly. It's also kinda pricey for a buffet, but you can always choose another place if it's more than you want to pay. read more

Grandma's cooking like you remember but you get to choose what and how much you get per serving. No fighting over who gets the largest piece of fried chicken or the biggest scoop of mashed potatoes. No need to remember which direction to pass the food around the table hoping some is left when it gets back to you. Come hungry and waddle out satisfied. I love a good salad bar and this one hit the spot when passing through on the way home from Port A. I also thought the price was fair at about $40 with tip for 2 adults and one child during a Wednesday lunch (May '22). From the outside, Butter Churn looks like a huge metal building but inside feels more like a country restaurant you'd expect with its name. The tables are in long rows with smaller gaps between to try to optimize space and minimize wait times. If you prefer more privacy, there are also booths around the outside. Food: There's a large salad bar section which includes soups, desserts, pasta salads and several dressings to choose from. Additionally, there was cobbler, bread pudding and soft serve. The other section included hot items. At least a half a dozen main entrees (baked chicken, liver and onions, chicken tenders, chicken fried steak, Salisbury steak, etc) and more than a dozen side items, plus rolls and cornbread. Service: Finally, our server was attentive, keeping our drinks full and checking on us regularly. I also noticed they were all wearing Christian t-shirts and Christian music was playing in the background which we appreciated. Once done with your meal, you pay a cashier near the exit. The only negative thing about this place is it's 3.5 hours from my house. If there was one of these in New Braunfels, I'd be a regular. read more
