Buttercups is a staple for frozen yogurt in Oxnard and I have always enjoyed their sweet treats. Located in the Seabridge Vons shopping center, it is always welcoming people through their doors especially on those warm summer days. I am especially thankful that they are open til 10pm to curve those late night munchies. The price definitely adds up fast especially if you get heavier toppings since they charge per ounce (around 82 cents I believe), so I try not to get so much although it is hard because it is so good. On this particular visit I got dark chocolate peanut butter and salted caramel tiramisu, both absolutely wowing me, with some mini chocolate chips on top. They have rotating flavors, but I know that I can always find something I like. I definitely recommend it to anyone in the area and I will for sure be back! read more

I was craving some frozen yogurt on the south side of town and remembered I had yet to check out Buttercups! It's a cute spot and I liked the to-go treats option in the fridge. I also appreciated the fully stocked toppings bar and the variety of flavors to choose from for my base frozen yogurt. Checking out was super easy and the female cashier was friendly. However what I did notice was the other person working behind the counter had their feet up on the counter, which I found a bit off putting. This is a small shop but the frozen yogurt is delicious. They offer fro yo and also sorbet. I had the pomegranate raspberry sorbet and I got lots of different toppings. They also sell other candies and treats. The cashier was very nice and took care of us quickly. Otherwise this place is self serve and the price paid is by weight of your cup. Cute little place similar to Menchie's. They offer a lot of no sugar added frozen yogurts which I appreciated. I got the sea salt pretzel (regular frozen yogurt) and cherry amaretto (no sugar added). They have a lot of toppings to choose from but I always get my staples of mochi and cheesecake bites. I also added blueberry boba and cream sandwich cookies. It was a bit more expensive than Menchie's. They sell pint containers for $9,99 and that was cheaper than my concoction. They also sell ice cream pies for $19.99 which would be fun. This is a cute little sweets store and the only yogurt shop within miles. The only thing I would say as constructive feedback is regarding the tipping options on the screen when you pay via credit card. The lowest tip option to select is 25% and it goes up from there to 30% and 35%. I know you don't have to leave a tip or you can manually enter your own tip amount however these high pre populated percentage amounts really put a bad taste in my mouth especially because it is self serve. Just remember that they charge you on weight. And you can't forget about all the different toppings they have. Nuts, candy, chocolate, cookies, cake, sprinkles, syrup & more. When you've piled up your cup, take it to the register to pay. They have a bunch of Candy, Snacks & Toys for sale too. Pretty Nostalgic with some of the vintage candies. You can earn points by putting in your phone number when you pay or via the Clover App. I always forget, but check in on Yelp for $1 off your purchase. Ugh - THE BEST! I got the caramel pretzel flavor, coconut, and vanilla custard. All were good, but the star was the vanilla custard. I could eat a whole bowl. It was perfectly smooth and creamy. I was debating to post, but if you're having your staff closed at 9 pm then change your hours on Yelp, your website, and store front. It's so unprofessional that you can't seem to change them, but your staff has to tell customers when there's a bright sign still reflecting your old hours. Only one size of container so don't be too quick to make it full because the price will shock you. The past few months have been dictated by seeking non-dairy options for food, including desserts. We'd been out at Channel Islands Harbor for a seafood lunch and were looking for a light, sweet treat afterward. Thanks to fellow Yelpers this cute indy fro-yo place bubbled up in a search. They did offer several dairy free flavors, which were still of a consistency that wasn't too icy and held together without melting immediately. Saying this because many non-dairy frozen desserts from the grocery store seem to melt really quickly. Buttercups features a lot of very fresh fruit toppings - photo evidence provided. Went 4/25 in the PM. I immediately noticed it was particularly unclean inside, the toppings were messy and there were missing scoopers/empty bins, but whatever. We paid, I tasted my yogurt (I got vanilla custard and chocolate) and to my utter shock the vanilla custard has the MOST rancid taste. I made my sister try it and she agreed. We went back in and I asked if I could get something else because my yogurt was awful and honestly I wish I hadn't. It left a terrible taste in my mouth and I couldn't enjoy my new cup of yogurt thinking about how if one yogurt was rancid/machine wasn't clean how all the other machines and flavors would probably be in the same condition. I ate a bit then ditched it. Price was pretty steep at $7 and some change for a small cup but I never minded paying because buttercups always used to be great. Safe to say I won't be returning as it was a truly gross experience lol read more

I've never felt compelled to write a review before, positive or negative, but I do now. They used to be good, but now I'm not so sure. We went last night and they weren't open, which I get because it's New Year's Day but it wasn't posted anywhere on maps or their website. So we went again tonight at 8:30 (they close at 10) and over half of their flavors weren't working, or not there to begin with. They had sugar-free cinnamon roll, salted caramel/pumpkin pie, gingerbread, and plain tart. The plain tart was fine, it's hard to mess up. The cinnamon roll and salted caramel/pumpkin pie mix both tasted like candles in a bad way. I haven't had to eat a mint after a dessert before but the aftertaste of those was baaaad. Just needed a little something sweet to chase the savory dinner of next door Mediterranean shop. This place is cute and has an ample supply of sugary toppings. Lots of teens came in while we were there so it must be a local fan fav among the young at heart. Plus it was fun to see some of the nostalgic candies. I usually prefer nondairy options but decided to stray after trying my sister's mountain of deliciousness with the Sea Salt Pretzel as the base. These type of build-your-own dessert bars aren't for me, I don't see the point of piling up a ton of toppings to pay twenty dollar for ice cream. I get why kids love it but my practical adult brain says it's not worth the price. However I would've definitely preferred to grab a pre packed of the Sea Salt Pretzel and eat with cookies instead of a spoon. This review is based on dozens of pre pandemic visits. Buttercups is great! The ability to sample a flavor before committing is super, and has helped encourage me to try new flavors (some of which have become favorites). The ability to combine different flavors in a single cup, in the amounts you want, and layered as you wish, with toppings or without, offers wonderful flexibility. Lots of local dinner options mean you can have dinner and dessert at different places without driving between them. Parking is plentiful. Spaces are nice and wide. Ambiance is lovely, especially if you sit outside, next to the fountain by Coffee Bean, overlooking the water. Highly recommend, and can't wait to return! read more

After walking around the marina, I was like hmmm.... I'm a little bit warm now, I should have some frozen yogurt on this extremely cold and windy but sunny day. Being that we live in the era of Covid 19, you can't touch anything, and you tell the people working there what kind of yogurt or ice cream you want and then you let them know what kind of toppings you want as well. The two who were working there at the time were extremely nice and helpful, really apreciated their help. I had a half and half mixture of their watermelon yogurt as well as their coconut cheescake yogurt. And I added the toppings of marachino cherries, cheescake bites as well as chocolate sprinkles. Total bill came out to $10.23 at a rate of $0.69/ounce, which I think is a bit much, but I havent had froyo in a long time, so maybe not. It tasted great though. And extremely refreshing. The watermelon frozen yogurt was very good. Light, but refreshing. Great taste. Not overly sweet, but you can definitely taste the strawberry. The coconut cheesecake worked well with the strawberry yogurt. And the topping were really good with it. Probably wouldn't get the chocolate spirnkles again, it really didnt add anything to the dessert, maybe except for some crunch. The cheescake bites were really good. And who doesnt like marachino cherries? Really enjoyed this snack/dessert. I'm sure on a "hot" day (which I guess here is like 85 degrees) this would be a great place to try. read more

Knocked this place down a star because the store itself is quite small. Which is fine, however, they keep the trial cups next to the register (which is situated as soon as you walk in). So while people are trying to pay there are people walking into the store and there are people walking in between to get trial cups! I cannot even imagine how chaotic it must be during the summer months!! They also have the hot fudge under this glass top, so it is quite difficult for people to push the handle down.
