My family and I are from the area so we order cakes from there very frequently. Couple incidents we experience with them. One of the. Biggest one was a molded cake , which I reported and was totally ignored. There was no compensation whatsoever ever. Most recently I picked up a cake before pick up time and was treated horribly to the point they denied my service. And returned my money with out any hesitation by the owner himself . I'm definitely not going back and will do anything I can to prevent them from receiving any service from any known friends and relatives. read more

The cupcakes are great i also tried a few cakes and the shrimp seafood pasta salad was delicious! The customer service is horrible! and thats why i gave them 3 stars!!! i guess they would chose a select group of customers. I am not sure if i will continue to visit the establishment although each time I have visited especially the Highland location but Munster location as well I felt unwelcomed and my hard earned money is best spent elsewhere!! but then again we do have the right to shop where ever we choose to these days! I used to be a fan of Butterfingers, but I find that they are extremely unaccommodating to their customers. You have to order cakes very far in advance, and they refuse to make cakes that are listed on their menus. Their staff is the most unfriendly and unhelpful staff I have ever encountered in the food service industry! I will definitely not be going there anymore. Too expensive, and way too much greasy nasty whip cream on their cakes. Purchased a birthday cake from them ($30), and the cake was 3/4 whip cream and 1/4 cake. I can't stand cakes that are 90% heavy icing and whip cream. Save your money and either make a box cake which is much better than this over priced wanna a be yuppy bakery or go to Jewels or Meijer and buy a cake. read more

If I could put negative stars I would. We have heard nothing but good things about butterfinger bakery so my fiancé and I choose them for our personal wedding cake. They were initially helpful when we simply requested a plain white, multi-layered cake with all white flowers on top. Our order sheet was filled out accurately; however, upon the day of pick up the cake was covered in Kermit the frog green leaves. Because every bride wants a green covered mouth in her wedding pictures. The bakery was not helpful to resolve the problem, at all. They refused to re-do the cake even with 24 hour notice on their mistake. They refunded our money and suggested we try another bakery to get a cake in one day. We realize that we are just one of their many customers but their lack of compassion toward a bride's wedding cake was heartless. It was as if they laughed us off; they were just plain rude and inconsiderate. I agree that their desserts are decadent but due to their horrific customer service, especially on a wedding cake, we will never purchase desserts here again. Nor will I recommend this bakery. Competition in the bakery business is high and I'm sure another bakery will welcome our business. Best of luck, hope they don't screw up your wedding cake! read more

Pleasantly surprised by this local bakery. I had the chicken salad, which as rated by others as the best, was definitely the best. Simple and delish. Their deli case was full of homemade side salads and I went with the napa cabbage slaw. Very good and full of surprises - pine nuts in every bite. Oh, wait, I actually came for a cake...so I got a beautiful banana cake, which was also very good, moist and rich. Took home a slice of sour cream fudge cake - also soo good. I loved that you could taste the sour cream in it. There were so many good things in the bakery case that I could not choose. Others have mentioned slightly high prices, I am not sure I can agree. $18.95 for a 2 layer decked out banana cake that served 10-12 and about 10 bucks more for the sandwich, quarter hunk of cake and 1/2 pound of napa cabbage slaw. Butterfingers has 2 locations 1 in Munster and 1 in Highland. I first made a stop at the Munster location which doesn't carry as many desserts as the Highland location. I believe their kitchen is located in Highland so I travelled out to Highland. When I arrived inside there was an employee behind the counter. I believe she worked in the back, but she didn't greet me. I left one star off the review because I believe all employees that are present in the storefront where customers are present should greet the customers and have a pleasant spirit about them regardless of your position at the company. The employee that took my order was pleasant patient and helpful. I believe the Munster location could be a more pleasant experience if they had more options or drop off of menu items from their Highland location making it easy for the Munster customer to obtain the same items as the other location without going out of their way. Anyhow, I ordered a raspberry pound cake from Highland. Wish I would have taken a picture before digging into the cake. It looked very appealing and delicious. The cake tasted just as great and the cake gets 5 stars from me! It was nice and moist with just the right amount of flavor. I will definitely visit the Highland location again, but wish I could go to the Munster location to get the goodies since I live in Munster. read more

Overall the experience was adequate. I am not certain why everyone loves the chicken salad. On numerous occasions I have had the chicken salad and it was mediocre. You can buy excellent chicken salad at Mariano's grocery store or Whole Foods. The pasta salads were good but not out of this world. The cupcakes which I have had numerous were s step up from boxed cake. Seriously, they were not the moistest cupcakes nor were they out of this world. Again, the cupcakes were average. My only guess for the rave reviews is that we do not have a large selection of bakeries in this area to choose from or compare. read more

My favorite place to eat when I'm in Munster. Consistently good for decades. The chicken almond salad on their dill bread is my all time favorite. When l lived in Los Angeles I used to have my mom bring me a loaf of that bread when she'd visit me. The chocolate raspberry cake is my favorite dessert. I only wish you could by it by the slice. read more
