I've had great luck here in the past with certain items, but either the cupcakes I got this weekend were stale, or their gf cupcakes are dry and hard. We ate the icing off them but that's it. ALSO, do not order an assortment of cupcakes ahead of time. They'll give you leftovers from other orders (we had some Bluey "happy birthday" ones thrown in there with some other purple butterfly ones, one with a sunflower, and others that all clashed and were weird together) assorted to this business (as NOT communicated) means random groups of rejects from other orders, not an assortment of flavors and colors. Ordered the cake for our wedding. We had a three tier cake each with different flavors. Carrot cake (top), Red Velvet (center) and White cake for the bottom. ALL of the cake was absolutely delicious, not one guest said otherwise. The carrot cake in particular, in my opinion, was top notch! The wife loved the Red Velvet. The cake decoration...left something to be desired. The craftsmanship was good but it isn't what we had discussed initially and my wife is adamant she confirmed. We did the cool geode thing and we had a fire and ice theme. So what we had discussed in the initial meeting was one large geode with blue candies and then a single smaller geode with red candies. What we ended up with was one big blue geode and several small red ones which looked... not great. I don't believe it was incompetence, but there was a definite miscommunication between the decorator and whoever my wife spoke to. Still though, cake and customer service were great and if you use them for a wedding you can get a free small cake for your one year! read more

My favourite gluten-free bakery in Boulder County! Please note they have changed location, and are now located near Jax at the intersection of 287 and W South Boulder Road. I have never been disappointed by a gluten-free baked good from this bakery. Cupcakes, cake pops, cinnamon rolls, sticky buns, eclairs, cream puffs...all truly delicious and worth driving from Longmont to buy. The taste and texture are top-notch, and the presentation is often really beautiful, with all kinds of edible glitter and enticing colour schemes. I have never been made ill by this bakery, either, which is important. They are careful to avoid cross-contamination. Always very pleasant people working here, too. They even have a loyalty program, where you can get a free cookie after filling your punch card (GF cookies included!). If I ever need a fancy GF cake, I know where I will be buying from! The mixed berry pie consisted of a small handful of small whole strawberries, mini blueberries with a ton of berry gelatin. So basically it was a berry gelatin pie. Button Rock is great in so many ways! The shop is adorable with display cases full of simply beautiful cakes, treats, quiches, and more. They have gluten free options, and everything - sweet and savory - is decorated to perfection. I called them one week before I needed a gender reveal cake made (procrastinator extraordinaire) and they were so accommodating. I went in having no idea what I wanted and Elise showed me some examples of cakes that they had previously made - cute, but not exactly what I was looking for. Instead, I showed her two similar-style pictures from Pinterest, specified what I liked about each, and sent them some photos for reference. We went through the cake and frosting options and she gave her honest opinion about which flavors she liked best and what she thought would go well together. I landed on almond poppy cake with cream cheese frosting and it was DELICIOUS! The cake was moist, the frosting was tasty (not too sweet or sugary) and the decorations were so cute! Exactly what I wanted. They would have been willing to take a call from an ultrasound tech as to whether it was a boy or a girl (our provider wouldn't release that info over the phone) so I drove over there with the envelope. They did a great job! They have earned a customer for years to come - birthday cakes, special treats, anniversary cakes, whatever. And for the record - IT'S A BOY! Thank you, Button Rock. This order was a "test" to see if we wanted to make a larger purchase for a wedding. Being an artist, I like to give the decorator's free rein on what they do. My guidelines on this one: (1) birthday cake for adult male. (2) he's a golfer, (3) he had a recent bear experience (fortunately no one was harmed), and lastly, no further guidelines. This cake is 6" in diameter and 4" in height. It cost $48.82 (excluding any tip, which they suggest adding when ordering). I was not impressed with the attention to details (see photos). The best word to describe this (for me) was "meh". I expected more for an almost $50 cake that served 6-8. For the bigger event, I'll be shopping around a bit more. read more

I worked with Button Rock on a large catering order for a baby shower I hosted this past weekend. We ordered mini quiche, scones (savory and sweet), and cupcakes. The food was AMAZING. Everyone at the shower kept asking where it was from. The gluten free options (of all three items) were great and no one could tell they were gluten free. I felt the prices were fair for how quality and delicious the food was. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the actual ordering process was a huge pain. It sounded like there were some unexpected emergencies that came up with the staff member I was working with, which I understand. However, it seemed as though there was no main database where orders are kept, so each time I called to try and confirm and go over details, I spoke with a new person and they couldn't find the order anywhere. It took about four phone calls and several emails until one of their lovely staff members took over and made it happen for me. Besides spending several hours just trying to place and confirm the order, the experience was good and the food was fantastic. TLDR: If decoration is important, buy from the case, don't pre-order. Noticing the gorgeous cakes in the display case, we decided to splurge on one for my daughter's 12th birthday. I was clear with the staff about the cake I wanted and that we were choosing it for how it looked. The price listed for GF was $5 extra, but when they rang it up, they charged $10. I noted the price difference and the cashier just said that the prices were different now. She did not offer to give me the price clearly displayed in the case. When we picked up the cake, it looked like something in the clearance section of a grocery store. I couldn't fully call it a "wreck," but it certainly had no resemblance to the one we ordered. When I confronted the staff about this, I was told, "We like to give our decorators choice about what kinds of decor to put on the cake so they can practice their skills, so the cakes vary from the ones you see in the case." There had been no mention of this when we ordered the cake. In the end, the staff let me choose a different cake from their display case, leaving the pre-ordered cake behind, as there was no time to re-decorate it before my daughter's party. The cake from the case tasted and looked good. So, if a particular look of a cake is important to you, I'd say go in the day of your event and buy one that you can see.
