First of all--this is hands down the BEST thin slice pizza I've had in Indy. And I don't say that lightly. The crust? Perfectly crisp without being dry. The cheese? Just the right amount where it's not sliding off or drowning the slice. And the vibe?? Obsessed. They've got this super intimate bar area that feels like a hidden little gem, and the inside is decorated so well it actually makes you want to hang out and stay awhile. We happened upon Byrne's at the Broad Ripple Farmers Market. They were selling a selection of breakfast pizzas (whole or by the slice). The pizzas are made on a cracker crust and grilled. Grilling takes a few minutes, so you have to wait a bit. The clerks are friendly. I had a slice of the California pizza, with eggs, cheese, spinach, sausage, bacon and a dollop of avocado. The slice is $7 and the slice is generous. I like the crunchy cracker crust that gets a smoky flavor from the grill. The spinach is fresh. The meats are small crumbles that have a salty flavor. Ahhh! I hate when this happens. You find a place that you truly enjoy, so you sort of "wear it out" and then, because you're visiting so often, something negative is bound to happen. I had two really great, back-to-back visits, where we were served by the same young woman. Then on my third visit, our server just did not live up to the standard set by those that came before her. I came in with my daughter after church service on a Saturday afternoon and asked about the Devour Menu. Lauren advised me that "she does not do the Devour Menu for lunch, just dinner." Okay, no problem. I didn't realize that it was only for dinner, but I sort of had my tastebuds all in-line for a chicken-bacon-ranch sort of deal. So, when she returned, I wanted to ask a question regarding the pizza that was on the Devour Menu, but she cut me off, spoke to me in a very slow and condescending manner, and stated "noooo, the Devour Menu is an entirely different entity. What's on that menu is not on our regular menu." That, I understood. And my eyes work, so I could see that it wasn't on the menu. I simply had a question regarding the ingredients and how I could get as close to that as possible via the Build Your Own Pie option. The way that she spoke to me was completely unnecessary. I ordered a pie with an alfredo sauce base and topped it with chicken, bacon and spinach. My daughter had the pepperoni pie, and we split an order of cheese bread. We also each ordered the mocktails that we'd had on our previous visit: the Lava Flow for her and the Carmen San Diego for me. The mocktails and cheese bread were good. My daughter finished her pepperoni pie and only had one slice of my pizza before packing it up to-go. The very thin, crispy crust doesn't travel well, in my opinion, so the leftovers weren't that great. Needless to say, I won't be back for a while. The rude service completely ruined it for me. I basically lost my appetite at that point. She stopped by a couple times to check in on us and I'm sure that she noticed that I wasn't eating. Bad service can really kill the vibe and ruin an entire dining experience...at least for me. P.S. She spoke like she owned the place, and if she does, she's setting a terrible example. We like the pizza at Byrnes, but the last few times we have visited the service has been terrible. Many of the servers seem more interested in talking with each other and friends than with serving customers. The last time we went we were ignored after being seated and after waiting for 15 minutes for someone to take a drink order - after servers walked past our table many times - and many who arrived us were waited on - we finally left and went to another pizza place where the service was excellent. If you want Byrnes pizza better to order and pick up rather than go to the restaurant. Some server hospitality training would be helpful. read more

Have been here many times & supported the Food Truck before the Brick & mortar location on Illinois Street. Great thin crust pizza grilled over open fire. Also the other offering are really good too: salads, sandwiches, pastas, etc. Very good local beer selection and always an interesting rotation of mixed drinks, wines and spirits on specialty rotation. Need a good tequila though! Service is friendly, quick and efficient and the Dining room is small, intimate and friendly. I lived by this place and always said I was going to try it. Well...I was able to try it at an event where they had the food truck. It was a limited menu at the event but since I loved it so much I made sure I visited the restaurant. Service was awesome. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Since the air was blowing (I was cold) we did decide to eat outside. I love the ultra thin pizza. Being that it is so thin you can taste the toppings. Byrne's exceeded our expectations! Patio dining - check! Incredible cocktail menu - check! The best Philly Cheesesteak, somehow? - check! And of course, delicious pizza - check! Since we moved to the neighborhood recently, Byrne's has been on my list to try. My husband really wanted sandwiches, specifically cheesesteak, for dinner but I pushed him to give Byrne's a try since we could sit outside with the dog, and enjoy the nice weather. Wouldn't you know it, they have a Steak Sando on the menu, and no joke, I was super jealous of his choice. So we split the Hey Zeus pizza, and the steak sandwich, and were super satisfied with both. The sandwich has so much gooey cheese, and onions cooked perfectly - and it was overflowing with grilled steak. The pizza - all pizza likes and dislikes are overly controversial now-days - was crispy thin, with toppings to the edge, and it didn't collapse under the weight of the sausage, and pepperoni, and onions, and banana peppers on top. Just came in on a Friday night after searching on yelp for a dine in pizza place. I should've known by the fact it was empty that it wasn't good. But we went in, were greeted with "you can sit wherever you want" and then before I could even sit down I was asked if we wanted anything but water to drink. I said I don't know yet. She left without a word. Then a server came over and few minutes later and asked the same question "do you want anything else to drink but water"? TF? I wanted pizza and beer after a long week of work. The draft beers weren't listed on the paper menus that were covered in sauces of various colors. Pretty sure I've reviewed Byrne's before but we were in a crunch, heading to a Butler game and taking a gamble we could stop here since we had our kids! Unaware my kids were thrilled being all in Butler hoodies, apparently, this is the stop for Butler fans that I was unaware! Perfect for families and it was also 1/2 price wine nights on Tuesdays! Came here since we were in the area and it was a very nice place near the bike path. We ordered the Caprese salad, a mushroom pizza and the California pizza. We sat on the patio and watched the traffic go by as our food was prepared. The salad came out first and the tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella combo were a nice treat on a warm day. Both pizzas that were ordered were delicious but the mushroom one was our favorite. The pizza was a very thin crust pizza, which I enjoyed, but I would order them extra crispy next time because it came out a little soggy. Yep, believe the positive reviews of this place! A friend invited me to come and I'm so happy she did. I'm a sucker for small neighborhood hidden gems and this is one. Located on Illinois next to the cute clothing store and jewelry store it looks very warm and inviting. While I went today (December) outdoor seating wasn't appealing they do have the seating for when the weather is pleasant. When I walked in you are immediately setting into the bar area. But the hostess came up quickly and sat me. I did have reservations and our table had a note that said reserved so they were definitely ready for me which is a nice feeling. Our server came over right away and took drink orders and was very nice and welcoming. Obviously the name says their focus is pizza. They have really great pizzas on the menu and what I loved is they have thin crust snd not just one but several options for thin. I chose to build my own based on the many many toppings they have including Rib Eye steak! Wow! Although I didn't get that how neat that that is an option. Tried all new pizzas that again were amazing. Discovered their MY AUNTI PASTO salad. This is with a doubt the best antipasto salad I have ever eaten. This creation is loaded with hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, salami, onions, olives and loads of feta. A first timer to Byrne's, I went with two long-time patrons - who gave me the run-down of the pizza, apps, and salad. As a table we merged on ordering the breadsticks and two thousand eleven salad. Now I'm a fan of a sprinkling of salt on my breadsticks, so plain dough breadsticks are ok - the marina dipping sauce made the breadsticks. The two thousand eleven salad - we ordered a large and there was plenty for three to share - is their version of Greek salad. The ingredients were fresh and the house vinaigrette all tossed so well together. I opted for the Big Momma, adding black olives, 10 in. The crust is perfectly crisp - appearing burnt but not tasting so. I devoured it! The restaurant is nestled in the middle of a old neighborhood block of shops - so it's narrow but plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Entrances are the front and back - pro note: there's parking behind the restaurant! The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. We have dined here twice now with both of our young children. It's a small space so it's best to dine on a week night or early on a weekend if you do not have a reservation. There's a bar at the front of the restaurant where above average cocktails are crafted. A pleasant sunrise for a pizza joint. The vibe is casual and fun and cozy. If you have kids, not that there are lots of high chairs but not much room for diaper bags and puffy coats. It is a tight space. The pizza is good. My favorite so far is the Hot Chick - a buffalo sandwich turned pizza. I order mine on cauliflower crust to accommodate a gluten allergy. Our two visits so far have taken about an hour from sit down to paying our bill. Note we arrived at just before 5pm each time. It's not fast food pizza. Plan to stay a while. I think that is part of the ambiance of getting a fresh grilled pizza. My one complaint is the pizza toppings are kind of sparse and leaves you wanting more. I visited for the first time for a Saturday afternoon lunch, which was a wise choice, as they were not crowded and there was no wait. We were sat right away and had great service. Rather than having one server, they worked on a team basis and anyone who was free, would check on our table. This meant, we always had what we needed, which was great! We ordered the torte spread to begin with, individual pizzas and the bread pudding for dessert. The torte spread was absolutely to die for! I would return and just get this! The bread was warm and crisp, but not too crisp, which happens at most places. The balance of flavors and the presentation of colors was perfect! The pizzas tasted good, however, I was not a fan of the wafer thin crust. There's thin crust and then there was Byrne's crust. While the ingredients tasted good, I did not like the crust. The bread pudding was allegedly brought over from the menu of the previous restaurant tenants. I liked that it came with strawberries, but did not like the chocolate chips on the top. It was too much chocolate and added an unnecessary texture. They have outside seating, bar seating and inside table seating. I wanted pizza for lunch decided I wanted Byrne's Grilled Pizza since I haven't been there since Oct. 2022 for an Yelp Elite event. I made it up there at 2pm on Friday Aug 30th. It was a blazing hot Friday afternoon, I parked in back parking lot where there are free parking spots in the back as well as free street parking. When, I went there for lunch it was a slow lunch from 2pm-3pm, I love the Rhinos theme in the restaurant, the restaurant gave me the feeling of small yet intimate vibes. Byrne's Grilled Pizza place does have bar seating, offers daily specials on food as well as drinks. You can dine-in, carryout or order delivery. For, my lunch I had two thin slices of cheese pizzza, coke with no ice, and then I ordered an alcoholic drink called Bourbon Renewal it was so delicious and so was the pizza. My Server was Courtney Y so nice, professional, and she was handling the front from taking orders, cleaning off tables, and placing in orders. We have driven by this place a few times but never stopped. But this past weekend, we decided to give it a try and we are glad we did. The place is nice ... smaller size but they have seating outside and a bar area inside and of course the dining room area. The wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. We placed our order and it came out relatively quick. All their pizzas are thin crust btw - it did not stop it from being delicious!! No complaints with both salad and pizza - nothing was left by the time we were done with it. My partner said she wouldn't mind coming back for the pizza and has already told her son about the place! This review is for a carryout experience. We drive past this location every day and finally had the chance to grab carryout and give their pizza a try. Their sidewalk seating in the Illinois Street corridor next to Kincaid's is pretty charming and gives off all of the neighborhood feels. We ordered the confession and another pizza whose name I'm forgetting. The ordering and pickup experience was fairly smooth. We're excited to see that they're adding a location closer to our home in the Old Northside. The pizza was a-okay. The crust was fairly thin and the toppings didn't pop with flavor. We haven't been back to Byrne's since they opened back in 2015. So many pizza places in town and they didn't make an impression. I saw on Open Table they were LQBTQ+ owned and operated. Also saw a story about them on Facebook. So far they are the only restaurant in Indiana on Open Table with LGBTQ+ as part of their additional info. Made reservations for brunch. Pablo was very warm and welcoming. We started with breadsticks and red sauce. He also brought out a sample of their beer cheese. The cheese was awesome, better then then red sauce. I'm always apprehensive about beer cheese. I don't like the smell or taste of beer. We ordered a breakfast pizza with bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. We weren't sure how the toppings would pair with tomato sauce. It was a wonderful combo. The thin crust is perfect. They weren't busy for brunch but Pablo did say for dinner reservations are suggested. Not a lot of inside seating but outside they have 6 or 8 tables. They use local items like meat from Kincaids Meat Market just down the street. That doesn't really mean that much to me, but other people look for this kind of thing. I ordered the small Torte Spread and a Rainy Day cocktail. Nice crispy light bread for the Torte Spread and I would absolutely order this again! Talking to the owners I found out that they are closed on Mondays but the past Monday they had thrown a special event and that possibly they would be open to somebody renting the restaurant on a Monday for an event. l tried the Don Draper cocktail. This is my new preferred pizza place in the MK food scene! The Byrne's pizza truck can also be found at local festivals like Sausage Fest--they really are a staple in the neighborhood and give back! It's a cozy pizza shop with a nice patio (dog-friendly, heated) and a cocktail menu. If you haven't tried grilled pizza--give it a go! I was skeptical, but am officially a fan. The ingredients shouted fresh with a Pesto base, Spinach, Artichoke Hearts, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers and Ricotta. I'll definitely order this pizza again. While I was waiting, the Main Squeeze Cocktail caught my attention with Limoncello, Lemon and Ginger so I had to try. It was very refreshing and ice cold. The Cheese Bread was a perfect appetizer to have while enjoying my cocktail. On my next visit, I'll try the Bruschetta with all my favorite ingredients. Salads, Pastas, Stromboli's, Pizza's and locally sourced meats are all enticing. The area of 56th and Illinois Streets is a place of nostalgia for me. As a youngster, we shopped at Safeway, ate at Banura's after soccer games, and went to Baskin-Robbins whenever we could weasel an ice cream sundae out of our folks. Some places are gone, and some remain. Byrnes Grilled Pizza, while not a new establishment, has recently appeared on my radar, and it's got a down-home appeal fitting for Butler-Tarkington. I've never heard a bad word about Byrnes, but when it comes to pizza, I rarely branch out from the places where I've eaten for years. And, "grilled pizza," is that really a thing? Eventually, Byrnes was kind enough to host a Yelp Elite event, and I couldn't resist any longer. I was intrigued as soon as I entered the small eatery. It's quaint to say the least. It smells fantastic, and the staff were the kind of people who encourage regular customers. They're were especially enthusiastic. For transparency purposes, Byrnes provided me with a complimentary small pizza, but not in exchange for a positive review. I did, however, purchase additional items at my own expense to avoid feeling parasitic. I started with a small cheese bread. It was quite enjoyable, but if I were abroad, I wouldn't have written home about it. I then had a small Hot Mama, which featured sausage from Kincaid's, the neighborhood meat market. It's definitely a choice for meat lovers. My fiancée had a small pepperoni, and fortunately for me, she didn't have much appetite. Since I ate half of that, too, I'd say it was on the higher side of average. Byrnes Grilled Pizza is definitely on the lighter side and the crusts are wafer thin. The grilled concept is interesting, but I found the crust to be overdone, and very crispy - as in burnt to a crisp. I'm all about thin crust pizza and was so excited to try the pizza at Byrnes. I got the Bryne's special. In my opinion, one of the joys of thin crust pizza is for the crispy bottom. The bottom of this crust was not crispy at all. It was too thin and reminded me more of a flimsy flatbread rather than a pizza crust. Toppings were okay but I thought the artichoke hearts and the burrata weighed down the pizza crust which made it difficult to eat. Considering that I finished my pizza in about 5 bites and did not feel full afterwards, I thought $13 for a small pizza was a little much to pay for.
