I was eyeing a Brooklyn Bedding mattress and debating on medium or firm. Despite info from online, I felt like I needed to just test it out for myself so I googled what local stores carried BB mattresses for me to try. The closest one was in Glendale (as of Nov 2025, no showrooms in the SouthBay). It was a hike but close to my in-laws so I'm used to making that drive. First off, I want to talk about the store name. Here on Yelp it's listed as CA Mattress but on Google, it's listed as Jewel City Mattress. When I drove up, the sign outside still said CA Mattress Store but the business cards and the receipts all said Jewel City Mattress. Looks like they're in the middle of a rebrand maybe but still thought it worth highlighting this confusing bit. Next I want to comment on the parking lot which was small and shared with a bunch of other businesses. However it's not a free for all lot, EVERY SINGLE SPACE is marked for specific retailer and the spots for the mattress store are tucked into a corner that feels like threading a car through the eye of a needle -- one wrong move backing out and you're practically guaranteed to t-bone or clip another vehicle. All that asides, when we went inside, it was pretty quiet in there (despite being Black Friday). The store was very clean and relatively orderly despite its small footprint. I found the exact mattress I wanted and tested both the medium and firm options. I ultimately chose firm (so much for the online recommendation from BB's own website!) and was prepared to haggle over price. I was expecting to fight to get a price equal to BB's Black Friday website's prices but David easily beat them and threw in pillows. Shipping was $50 (as opposed to the website's free shipping), but given the greater discount, I felt the shipping cost was more than covered. The ordering and check out process was fast and I was more than pleased with the experience which seemed way too easy--but in a good way? I was told to expect my mattress to be delivered in 7 days but it took closer to 14 due to shipping delays and also FedEx "losing track" of my package for 2 whole days. The store did call me to update me on the tracking progress so that was very much appreciated. I was also told I'd be getting 2 pillows with my mattress but those didn't arrive and unless they're on their way separately, I don't think those are happening. I'm not going to count FedEx's bumbles against the store but I will the broken promise of complimentary pillows. The parking lot issue is not something the store has direct control over but the naming is something they can control. Also, the business cards list like 7 different web domains which made me a little uneasy but in the end, I did get my mattress so I'm happy about that and the price I paid. I'd give them 5 stars but promising something extra but leaving it out of the actual delivery seems a little bit sus. Not sure if it was error or honest mistake but that's my rationale. Where's my review of the mattress itself? Well that has nothing to do with the store. The quality of the mattress I got would reflect entirely on BB and not the distributor (unless it arrived damaged but it didn't). read more

I was really excited to shop at this store, given all of their 5 star reviews. I also spoke with someone on the phone a couple of days ago who was really helpful. But when I went in, the person working there wasn't wearing a mask. I asked him about it and he said "no, I don't wear a mask." I could not believe it. I asked him if he could put one on and he agreed and went to the back to get one. I spent some time in there trying out the mattresses but it was hard to feel safe after my initial interaction. Where do I start... the thought of choosing a mattress has been weighing me down for months. It's one of the hardest choices you'll make if you're serious about comfort. A mattress store is overwhelming because there are so many mattresses, and it's daunting choosing one because when you do somehow you manage to tell yourself that maybe there's still a better one out there for you, and this is why we need the subject matter experts; sales people. Anyway, I walked in and there was Andy, eagerly awaiting and willing to help a client. I was skeptical, I admit. I've been to other mattress stores, and I had my plan laid out for the day to hit some more. First I'd go to this store and then to one more that's a few minutes away from here. Well somehow Andy, as the subject matter expert that he is, was able to convince me to take the one I really liked sooner rather than later, which went over my original budget plan by $1,000, but well worth it, and I ended up talking myself out of going to the other store because I really liked the offer he was making me. Andy was knowledgeable about the brands and the pros & cons of each. He got a sense of what I wanted immediately and guided me towards the right mattresses, thus, not wasting my time. This store carries solid, expensive brands that other places don't, I've looked. And they carry the big name brands that we've all heard about and seen everywhere. Point is, there are quality options here, and you don't have to fight for the attention of a sales person. They work with you on prices. They offer financing options for all, good or bad credit, and they offer free delivery. I'm just glad my intuition led me here first today, instead of the other place, because it could've gone either way. It saved me half a day. My new mattress comes with a 90-day trial period, just in case I decide I want to exchange it. Who does that... I'm sold!
