I was obviously frustrated and upset, but that's on United Healthcare, not the people at SimonMed. In fact, the women at the front desk (Katherine and Adriana... I believe those were their names) were incredibly kind, going above and beyond to try and help me out. They called my insurance, they called my doctor, they walked me through what I needed to do to ensure I wouldn't have to pay out of pocket. They made sure I was able to be seen the next day, and they did all of this with compassion, empathy, and smiles on their faces. Listen, healthcare in this country is a joke and MRIs are no fun, but let's not blame the people who are trying to help. If anything, the staff at the SR SimonMed made the situation as pleasant as possible. When I went back for my MRI, they checked in on me and even got me in and out early. Show a little kindness and you'll get it doubly in return.

Put me in a closed MRI when the order was for open MRI. The black woman in the San Rafael CA. office violated my HIPPA rights by announcing to the entire full waiting room that I was claustrophobic as she asked a young man "are you claustrophobic like this woman? Let's put ***** in the open and give you the closed" I say black woman because she would not give me her name and when I asked for the manager she gave me a bogus email address. I was left in the machine too long and despite pushing the button to get me out I was ignored to the point of me needing to yell, "get me out of here!". It was a horrifying experience. I made it clear to everyone working I suffer from genuine PTSD . Not some made up issue. But a serious condition so please work with me. This staff was F-. They deserve negative star. Definitely not one star. They were all much worse than one star. Equipment was tattered, yellowed and torn fabric...the facility was archaic, filthy and in a strip mall setting next to the freeway with lots of noise. Office was stuffy and hot till I got to the MRI machine where it was freezing cold. John who performed my partial MRI wouldn't even look at me after I said I was supposed to have the open MRI. I spoke with him on the phone and I determined after that call I did not want him. He was impatient and would not listen to my questions. He talked over my voice and never answered my question. I told them I had a high deductible and they said they can't give me an exact amount but my insurance should pay for most of it. I went here for a neck x-ray. Had to wait over 1.5 hours. Then I get a bill for $925 for a neck x-ray even with my insurance. I wish I would have known this as I called two other places in Marin that did not take insurance but were only $200 for an x-ray. I thought this was going to be cheaper because they took my insurance, wrong!!! This is just robbery. So unfair that they can not tell you the cost before you do it. I feel so ripped off. It gives me the very peaceful feeling accompanied by soft music. I feel like I'm floating in the middle of summer night! The ultrasound technician Melissa treated me with care and upmost respect. Melissa explained to me what will be done and the final report will be ready in just 2 days. The other facility use the ultrasound gel is icy cold, but Melissa use the preheat gel just right temperature to make me feel she consider all her patients are deserving the very best treatment. All these small details really make the difference. I highly recommend this ultrasound facility and deserving the very best rating. He seemed to be bothered that I was asking him questions. Especially because the part of my body that is hurting was not taken an image of. Receiving medical care, x-rays and all that good stuff is not free. I would think as patients we have the right to ask questions without receiving an arrogant attitude back especially when I'm speaking in a respectful manner. The woman who took my call scoffed at the fact that I was hoping to get a same-day appointment, and actually HUNG UP ON ME when I tried to explain that it was urgent that I get in as soon as possible due to a motorcycle accident! I can sometimes be aggressive on calls of this nature but I assure you that there was not even time for things to escalate... The receptionist uses that tactic as a cure-all solution and hung up on me so fasr that I didn't even have time to get upset. So insensitive. DO NOT go here, what a despicable experience

I just drove across the Bay Area for a breast exam--an appointment I was already nervous about…read moreafter finding a lump. As soon as I arrived, I was asked to pay upfront before anything else. But once I got into the exam room, I was immediately turned away because I didn't bring prior medical records that were apparently necessary to complete the exam. No one ever contacted me to let me know I needed to bring these records. Yet they had no problem calling me beforehand to make sure I knew how much I owed and to offer a same-day payment discount. This is completely unacceptable. The lack of communication not only wasted my time and money, but added unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation. Patients deserve better--especially when dealing with something as serious and scary as a potential breast health issue.
