This review isn't for the service so much as the cost. $2000 per vaginal pregnancy ultrasound, when…read morethe national average hovers around $500. I moved to SF and found out I was pregnant. I was about 8 weeks and didn't have a doctor here, so my doctor in Chicago referred me to this center for an ultrasound. I called to see if they accepted my insurance, and they said they did. On the first visit, we didn't hear a heart beat, so naturally scheduled a follow-up for the following week, at which time we did hear one. On both visits, we did not see a doctor, just the technician, who performed the vaginal ultrasound and did not give us much information. She said she would give updates to my doctor in Chicago, who then called us with information. We switched insurance right after, due to the move and new job, and I found an OB here. At the same time, I got the bill from UCSF--$2K per ultrasound, for a total of $4K. The ultrasound had a bunch of tacked on costs, like doctor's fee (I'm guessing the tech showed it to a doctor there), facility fee, etc. Insurance said they would only cover half of each, so we're paying $2K out of pocket. To make it worse, USCF doesn't have an automated monthly billing option, so I have to log in every month which reminds me (hence this review--I just made a payment!). When we went to my first OB visit, he was going to perform an ultrasound, but I hesitated and asked how much it would cost. He said even if insurance didn't cover it, the cost would be about $300. (Insurance did cover it). This is mostly FYI for those of you that may be going there for a basic ultrasound or something, to know about the additional fees that get tacked on, which your insurance may decide not to cover. We would have been better off going to a doctor's office or something without insurance and paying out of pocket, rather than a research hospital/facility that has a lot of additional fees.

My MRI finally took place at 7:30 am. Afterwords, I noticed imaging hadn't been sent to my orthopedist and I hadn't received any detail about the imaging in over 2 weeks. When I called, the representative told me I had to go into the clinic, request imaging and wait 30 min OR my doctor could fill out a form for imaging and it would take 30 days for them to get the information. None of this was communicated or stated in the mountains of paperwork I filled out, no one at the clinic made this clear or even said anything about how/when my orthopedist could get the results. Seems you get what you pay for. I should've paid more money to get better service and faster results from a reputable hospital like Stanford. I never would've known any of this had I not called and therefore Castro Valley Open MRI just keeps your money and your records and does nothing else to help you as a patient. I'll definitely never go here for imaging again.

I had a mra scheduled about a month ago, but the scan was not completed correctly. When I went to…read moremy neurology appt, it was discovered that the angiogram was not preformed. I called the facility again and they scheduled me for another mra. They canceled the day of because the equipment was broken. They rescheduled me again in a few days. They called later that evening and when I got disconnected for a second time, I found out that they just cancelled me because they double booked me. All in all, my care has been delayed about a month. I had a Cva in July and this is the final exam that I need performed before I can move on with my care, but because of the lack of efficiency, I've been in limbo waiting to see why I had a stroke. In the meantime, costs have been adding up because I've had doctors visit where I couldn't be seen, I've given up work shifts, arranged for baby sitters, etc, for exams they just cancelled without caring. The worst part is that I can't even reach the office to talk with the office manager. Everything goes thru a call center.

It gives me the very peaceful feeling accompanied by soft music. I feel like I'm floating in the middle of summer night! The ultrasound technician Melissa treated me with care and upmost respect. Melissa explained to me what will be done and the final report will be ready in just 2 days. The other facility use the ultrasound gel is icy cold, but Melissa use the preheat gel just right temperature to make me feel she consider all her patients are deserving the very best treatment. LOVE. I had a terrible experience with another doctor earlier this year (they made a massive mistake - I'll leave it at that), however, it's all good because it led me to Dr. Schwartz. (This is exactly why I love life - you get a little bad, and then a lotta good...just be patient and don't forget to look for the good!) When making my first appointment, the person at the directory wasn't too confidence inspiring. I got a lot of "uh..." and "umm..." before he said, "he's barely ever here....it's gonna be awhile...." Oh, boy. So I get bad news AND the dude who can help me isn't available? Great. I ended up landing an appointment within a couple weeks from that call, and I've seen Dr. Schwartz several times since then. I honestly don't even know where to start with him. He blows away every stereotype and bad experience I've ever had with doctors or the medical profession in general. Dr. Schwartz listens, is caring, is never dismissive, thoughtfully answers EVERY SINGLE QUESTION (including all the ones I start with, "So, I know I shouldn't but...I googled......."), is funny, unbelievably accomplished, methodical and thorough, knowledgeable, kind - should I go on? While his original assistant has since left, his new one (Mazie) is just as lovely, and all the nurses are great, too. My one nitpick is the wait times. I book early in the morning and still haven't been seen in under 45 minutes. That's rough when you work 9-5ish. That said, Dr. Schwartz never rushes the appointment, and for that I'm grateful. Expect to spend a couple hours here, and know that it will be well worth your time. I couldn't be happier to have found him, even if the road *to* him was less than great. I just wanted to take the time to thank the staff of 4 North East for taking such good care of me…read moreduring my recent 5 day stay and the start of 2026 in the ER and later admitted at Alta Bates Medical with a final diagnosis of the rhinovirus which left behind some nasties that got into my lungs and caused a mild case of pneumonia. This was a first for a lot of things for me there... My first time as an adult being admitted into the hospital for something for myself. A first time having my blood ever drawn as an adult let alone having IV's put in me, which were terrifying and excruciatingly painful, but thank God for the nursing staff who were so patient with me and understood my fear of needles! I also had to have my blood drawn regularly to check my white blood cell counts, which I really hated, but the nurses were very kind and made me laugh. Likewise, I had a really good physician, Dr. Shah who provided me with detailed information and even let me look at my brain after doing a CT scan, which I thought was really interesting and very cool. In addition, the RT staff came in regularly to give me my breathing treatments who are so nice to me and explained how giving me these treatments would help me breathe. I couldn't have done it without them as for the food... Well it is Hospital food after all, but I did have the midnight hook up as my grave shift Nurse did provide me with some yummy Jell-O and a low sodium turkey sandwich now again when I got hungry. This could've been a lot scarier for me had it not been for the compassion and kindness I received from my healthcare providers. Thanks again for helping me to feel better and to get well.! You are greatly appreciated!

Called to schedule an MRI, got an answering message saying they were closed, I could call back…read moreduring "Regular business hours" of 9:00am to 4:30pm. The stated hours on their website (see photo) are 8am-5pm. I called at 4:07pm. No idea when they are actually open, or answering a phone. Further, the IVR has no option for "scheduling an MRI", and there is no way to book online.

I recently did IVF and needed an ultrasound done, but couldn't find an OBGYN that would do an…read moreultrasound this early on in my pregnancy. So I decided to come here. When I booked the appointment I was told on the phone that my husband couldn't be in the room with me since the ultrasound room was "too small". When I came for my appointment, I saw the room is pretty big and even has chairs. I was disappointed my husband wasn't able to be with me for our first ultrasound for our first baby. On top of that, the technician wasn't very nice and immediately told me "I'm not telling you anything and you won't be getting any ultrasound pictures". She wouldn't let me even view the screen throughout the ultrasound. She hardly spoke to me the entire hour I was in there. It was such a disheartening experience not even getting to see my own baby. After my abdominal ultrasound, she didn't leave the room for me to undress. I felt completely violated and uncomfortable. She didn't even turn around when I had to wipe myself after the vaginal ultrasound. It was disgusting of her. How unprofessional. I will NEVER come back to this place.
