Never had a chance to eat. We were just looking for a lunch spot to eat in Jackson and the person who came out was very short with us and kinda huffed that we didn't have a reservation. Apparently they are reservation only. But he was so unfriendly, it kinda soured us to eating there at all. The food must be good cause the guy acted like we were trying to get a seat at some exclusive club. Maybe I'll try to get a reservation next time I'm in town, probably not. read more

This Bistro is small; there are only 3 or 4 tables and a patio. We ate inside. The community tables made me feel like I was a local, just like the people at the other end our table were. Looking out the window I thought to myself that Jacksonville would be a very nice place to live. Linda and I each had a cup of tomato soup and share a shrimp Louie. The soup is one of their specialties. Tasting the soup I know why, it was delicious; it tasted like wonderful fresh tomatoes. The server split the salad and it was more than enough for the two of us. Linda had ice tea and I had a lemonade, The menu had a lot of interesting dishes. Reading the reviews after we had lunch, it sounds like breakfast would be wonderful. Will I come back? Yes I will, after all the chef had his picture taken with Julia Child. But more importantly the meal was really good. So many wonderful options, so little time. I can't tell you how many times I've been to historic Jacksonville, but even though the town is small, this bistro would have skipped my notice if not for the rave Yelp reviews. Just a block off the main street and around the corner, it is in a little cottage that might be a little hard to find if you aren't looking for it. I encourage you to seek it out. A couple things that are important to note. Seating is cozy and communal. One of the smallest dining areas I've experienced recently. There were three tables: an eight top, six top and four top, all shared by diners. So if rubbing elbows with random locals and visitors alike isn't your thing, that might be an issue. During the summer months there is some outdoor seating as well. We hit the seating jackpot and some of the bistro's regulars were seated next to us. We had a really pleasant conversation about the area which added to the experience. On my other side, they were talking about rather personal medical issues (TMI people). So consider your surroundings and perhaps leave intimate discussions for another venue. The menu is interesting... a mix of breakfast and lunch items and many featured duck and mushrooms. Absolutely a French-inspired menu which is only reaffirmed by a nice photo of Paul with Julia Child featured in the dining room. We both ordered the mushroom panini, with Gruyère cheese, and it was delicious. Sandwiches come with your choice of side. I chose the flavorful bistro salad and my mom chose the soup. I heartily recommend both options. A modest selection of drinks and desserts are pre-packaged in the display case to go. The only downside was that service was a bit slow. We were there during a very busy time and Paul was the only server. This won't change because there is only room for one person to navigate the small space. Everything was fine, but it was a leisurely meal, not a quick bite to eat. I always recommend Jacksonville as a little outing if you are staying in Ashland, and the C St. Bisto is certainly worth the drive. read more

If I had a sixth star I could give to only one place this would be it. This was so amazing! Yes you can park in front! we asked after we parked a mile away. The food was great! I had the c-street special its at the bottom of the menu not sure of its true name. I enjoyed everything about this place. The two guys working did a great job very friendly and fast to serve. The food is great just enough to make you full but not enough to put you in a food coma! The portions are not Fatty American size but the size that you should eat! I always love going to a place that just makes food right! The eggs are seasoned great and the home made ketchup is amazing! The sausage was also great and fresh! My buddy got the hash and he barely let me try it he said it was almost to good to share! The has was to good to share in my one bite I questioned if I should order some to go just so I could eat it later. The meal will get you going all day and kept me feeling great for the rest of the day. I always enjoy food that makes me and my body happy! Thank you again for a great meal!!!! I will make the drive for this it is worth a 3 hour drive if not more. Also side note if your a local they are doing dinners some nights go in and check it out. We went there for lunch. I had a two year old with me and I wanted to know if there were any toddler-friendly pizzas (i.e. simple pizza), and the male server/cook (I'm not sure) rudely said we are not a pizzeria, but clearly they have a good number of specialty pizza. So, it was not out of the question to ask. The female cashier apologized and recommended a sausage and arugula pizza, I said okay and we got two burgers. The pizza was not kid friendly, the sausages were spicy and the arugula bitter with a slight spice (as arugulas tend to have). However, I will say that the pizza was delicious, speaking as an adult. The burgers on the other hand were very salty, dry and just not worth going there for. If you are looking for burgers, look someplace else. As the rude server said, this is not a pizzeria nor is it is a burger joint neither. read more

This gem in Jacksonville serves hugh quality entrees and their pizza is exceptional. The owner/chef is an interesting guy but really knows his stuff. They seemed to having a bad day when went there. There was a place in the porch in front where one of the tiles was tippy, The owner/chef had put a metal sculpture on it to keep from walking on it. People kept knocking the sculpture over and at least once, it made a mark on a car that it fell on. The owner didn't seem to care. The food was not great, either. I had an unimaginative mixed green salad, that was drenched in salad dressing. I had the Monte Christo sandwich, was the worst one I have ever had. It was liberally covered with powdered sugar and there wasn't much in the sandwich itself. I live in Portland, but I come through Ashland again, I will find someplace else to eat. Simply put? Best restaurant in Southern Oregon. Worth driving from Medford or Ashland or Grants Pass to come to. Not only in the food consistently amazing (and award winning), the bistro is charming and the chefs welcoming and talented. There is a reason Paul was in several magazines and is featured in a photo with Julia Child. Both Paul and Jeff are gifted chefs with ideas worth sharing. You can't really go wrong: brunch, lunch, dinner or dessert will be phenomenal every time. They constantly use fresh and local ingredients to create new and exciting dishes. Having experienced just about everything on the menu several times, here's the lowdown: Brunch: The duck confit waffle with real maple syrup is one of my favorite flavor combinations. For those scared by hearing "duck on a waffle!" have no concern. It's salty and delicious and not gamey at all. The potato and vegetable hash is wonderful every single time and I recommend adding poached eggs. I've had all the other brunch dishes and every one is worth trying but those two are definitely my favorite. Lunch: The burgers. They're ground fresh to order and are award winning. My favorite is Two Pigs and a Cow which features the house made bacon as well as bacon jelly. The other burgers are delicious as well and the sandwiches are right up there with them. Their salads actually make me WANT to eat salad and Paul's caesar dressing is good enough to be bottled and sold. Dinner: Well, I can't say enough about dinner. Their regular dinner items are over the top delicious but they often hold special dinners that feature courses designed from fresh, local food and have wisely chosen wine pairings. These are worth making a reservation for and attending as often as possible. Check it out. Dessert: Cheesecake, cheesecake, cheesecake. They have their cheesecake brought in by a local cheesecake master. She's is extremely talented and creates extraordinary flavor combinations. I've always been a cheesecake lover and I can safely say these are the best I've ever had. If you ever hesitate about dessert, don't. Try it and I guarantee you'll be very happy. If you enjoy fresh food, supporting local chefs and growers, and want a charming place to take a date or family or yourself... C St. Bistro is your place. It will never let you down. It was a little bland but good. My kids split a texas pulled pork sandwich. They liked it. The sandwiches all came with a choice of salad or tomato soup. I chose the soup and it was delicious. The atmosphere in the place was cool. An older couple inside said that they come almost every day. The chef (Paul Becking) is billed as something of a celebrity. A picture of him with Julia Child sits on a shelf in the dining room. He seems like a nice guy and he was busy in the kitchen with a small staff of four people that we could see. read more

I have never left a review before on a restaurant but felt the need to do so. We left before being seated because our interactions with the owner were awful. My dad and I got there right at 12:00 along with a few other couples. The owner was seating everyone but was visibly upset that no reservations were made by any of the groups, rolling his eyes and exasperated sighs (ok but who makes a reservation for a restaurant at lunch?). He proceeded to sit the other 3 tables down and grab them water, which I was totally fine with because I've worked restaurant before and understand what it's like being in a short staffed environment. But I'm also aware of how to treat paying customers, the owner I assume completely ignored us and made us stand there for almost 8 minutes. Finally he turns to us and tells us to come back in 15 or 20 minutes in a very short and unfriendly manner. Again, I understand if he was feeling the pressure from the "lunch crowd" but just the overall tone and the way he acted like it was a burden to have customers deterred me and my family from ever eating there. If you're ever in Jacksonville, try any other place. read more

C Street Bistro prepared an imaginative brunch for me: Sous vide pork belly and whole grain griddle cakes with candied pecan butter and rosemary infused pure maple syrup plus two farm fresh eggs, mine poached. My plate presented beautifully and everything, except for the eggs which were almost hard boiled, was cooked to perfection, with distinctive and complimentary flavours -- the belly pork being particularly yummy. There are three communal tables inside, respectively seating 4, 6 and 8, somewhat elbow to elbow -- and more seating outside on the deck. Question: As we waited on our check I pondered whether tipping the chef/proprietor who serves and cooks for you is de rigeur -- since he's not working minimum wage. I decided I would leave a gratuity, the meal deserved an applause, but then came the bill and payment: They process card payments through Square on an iPhone where several tipping buttons starting at 17% are "helpfully" offered -- including one to leave no tip. So they pretty much decided for me, the proprietor expected to be tipped. I've never fully bought into the supposed social-contract that patrons must supplement minimally paid restaurant workers -- rather leaving a gratuity for good service instead. I'm typically generous. I think restaurants should pay their staff well -- particularly good restaurants such as this one where they charge near premium prices. Anybody care to comment on whether they think the chef/proprietor should prompt for a tip? read more

Hard to put into words how good this place is. Every bite is delicious, and you can tell the chef takes great pride in his recipes. The outdoor seating is really cool, and I like they that have a crochet set, too! I'd give it 5 stars, if the inside seating were a bit more spaced out and comfortable seating. Make a trip to eat here! We are traveling the country in our motorhome so we eat at a variety of restaurants. I wish I was able to eat more. The wonderful aroma coming from he kitchen is irresistible. We ordered a burger with blue cheese. (Sorry don't remember the name) it was a blend of tastes that filled my senses. The fingerling potatoes were covered in garlic but just the right amount. The Caesar salad was perfect. If only I had more room to taste more treats! Went back the next day to enjoy more treats. I had the salmon dish and my partner had jerk pork tenderloin. Another amazing meal! The flavors were delicate and perfect. Sure wish we could bring the chef with us as we travel.
