Let me start by saying, "never judge a restaurant by its cover". It may not have a lot of Yelp stars. It may look like a 'grab-n-go' pizza and sub shop from the outside, but make no mistake, the dinners here are beautifully prepared and taste incredible. I had the surf-n-turf which was a prime cut perfectly prepared fillet of beef and a 'crispy on the outside/delectable on the inside' crab cake with a grilled Caesar salad. All paired with a local bottle of Barbera. Divine. Seriously... and sincerely... don't pass on this joint when you're in Jacksonville. It's great. But it's also small. Make a reservation. read more

This was a quaint little cafe we found on the side of town, and even though it was hot, we chose to sit outdoors. The services was good, and we had a Bistro Club ($17, a bit high) that we split and had decided on the Caesar salad for our side, ($8 extra charge to split). The food was fresh and delicious. I especially enjoyed the smoky ham that was part of the turkey club. The salad had just the right amount of dressing topped with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and croutons. I would dine there again. This is the best restaurant in Jackson County. Real food, not the chain restaurant type that is so typical here. Shrimp scampi is garlicy and just the best i have ever had. The servings are ample, always enough for brunch the next day. It is small, so make a reservation. Spending extra is so worth it here. Sunset magazine wrote up this restaurant as one of a few recommended in Southern Oregon, that is how i found about it. read more

I'd call the C Street Bistro a hidden gem, but in a downtown that stretches out for maybe six blocks total, there's no keeping it a secret. Plus, one of the owners at the nearby Caprice Vineyards recommended it when she heard we were hoping for some vegetarian options. So we came in expecting some filling but humble salads or egg dishes. We got so much more! Seriously, just a cup of tomato soup had so many things going on. A smoky element calmed the tanginess of the tomato flavor that also had a drizzle of kalamata olives. And that was just the start of the meal. I ate the wedge salad because it had bacon (the veggie options weren't for me), and while it was very good, I was pretty curious about the No Cow burger that J-Bob chose. He said it was the best veggie burger he'd ever eaten, and we live in Portland, where if the veggie burgers all lived in the same area, they would merit their own zip code. It had manchego cheese, pickled peppers, and tomato confit, and now I am quite famished just listing those things. Take note: This is a fancypants restaurant disguised in a small and unassuming space and camouflaged in a cute, itty-bitty hamlet that itself seems to be disguised as a two-horse old western village but is actually an under the radar tourist must. I am so intrigued by the 5 star reviews for this place. As always, when I see such great reviews for restaurants here in Southern Oregon and then I head there myself I begin to wonder if the reviewers have experienced the restaurants of larger cities like Portland, Seattle or San Diego. The C Street Bistro is a very small (less than 10 tables) establishment on C street in Jacksonville, Oregon. The menu offers traditional food with fancy titles. The cheeseburger is called the Americana, while a different burger is called Two Pigs and a Cow. This cutesy naming can make figuring out what you want more challenging than it has to be. I know it is a trend in the foodie scene these days to used embellished and creative language as a way to excite the patron about the food, but I often find it overdone and C Street is no exception. In my opinion, if you have good food you don't have to fancy up the menu descriptions. We ordered a cheeseburger, two pigs and a cow, a club sandwich with tomato soup and a pulled pork sandwich. Three of us had the "fries" with barbeque or salt and vinegar seasonings. I have to say, personally, I was really disappointed with the lack of flavor in my "freshly ground to order" burger and felt the bun was overpowering to the rest of the sandwich. Just because burger is fresh ground doesn't negate the need for a little seasoning. My companions felt similarly toward their meals, they were okay but nothing fabulous. Certainly not the best in Southern Oregon or even in Jacksonville. One of the interesting things about C Street was the ipad payment system where the waitress was able to swipe the card at the table. A negative of this system: to get a receipt one must provide an email or phone number to have the receipt emailed or texted. The person paying for our meal was totally turned off by the inability to get a simple receipt without having to provide additional personal information. In theory, a cool thing, but in practice I can see how it creates an annoyance for the customer. Overall I feel like C Street Bistro is a forgettable establishment, with prices higher than the quality of the flavor-lacking food. One positive thing I will say: portion size is appropriate. Often "bistro" signifies smaller portions, but C Street has substantial portions. Two of us only consumed about half of our meals and were completely satisfied portion size wise. read more

Wow, what a find! Jacksonville is a neat little town about 6 or 7 miles west of Medford. Surprisingly full of well appointed, relatively upscale shops for a "mining town." But this little place, a block off of the main street, is really special. We happened in there for lunch after walking around the town, and were greeted by the very friendly owner/chef. My wife ordered the burger, which was ground to order and absolutely magnificent (I know - you don't often hear that about a burger - but this deserved it). I had a great salad with a nice mix of greens, a great house made dressing, add roast turkey and bacon (with the chef's hearty approval). Really a marvelous meal. Can't wait to go back! read more

We knew to eat at C Street Bistro from the description of the place on Yelp. We were in Jacksonville for a brief visit. Little did we know we would find the BEST cheeseburgers we have ever eaten. I am not kidding! Worth a drive to charming historic downtown Jacksonville JUST to eat the Forager (mushroom burger). Our group of four stopped here for a Thursday afternoon lunch based on reviews here and other places. We were not disappointed; like another reviewer said, I'd give it more stars if I could. I'm used to very good speciality restaurants, but am always doubtful of any place that tries to do too much, with too much variety, as something always seems to suffer. Not here. We ordered a variety of different things and nothing was below par We had an Americana burger with fingerling taters, a shrimp panini, a C Street Salad, a couple tomato soups, and blue cheese burger with Caesar. The soup was a surprise; most places heat up some V8 and call it soup, whereas this was a shock of amazing flavor. The burgers were tasty, though next time I'd probably get mine medium. Not a knock on the burger; just my preference. The C Street Salad was a full serving, not some dinky side salad. And finally my wife says the shrimp panini is among the best in memory. Hospitality was down home and comfortable; the owner handled pretty much everything (seating, taking orders, taking money, cooking) and was conversational and friendly. Also, he knows where the food comes from, which I appreciate. Local grown, raised, "no bad stuff" according to the menu. I cannot recommend this place enough. We tried to eat at the Jacksonville Inn, but it was closed for lunch (Tuesday), so the host (?) steered us toward this bistro. We are glad he did. It is a small place, but nicely decorated and has outdoor seating. The menu is one of the most interesting I have seen in a bistro. We ordered the burgers and watched as they ground a slab of meat to order for one of the freshest and most delicious burgers we have every enjoyed. I could have swore the chefs were brothers, but I asked and they are not. I guess like a married couple, they just start looking like each other after working together so long! There is a photo of one of them with signed photo of Julia Child, so obviously he was been in good company. There was a quote by Julia below the picture. I don't remember what it said, but it was nothing about butter (shocking!). Absolutely give this place a try if you are in Jacksonville. It will not disappoint. read more

Good food served in nice portions and friendly and attentive service at a reasonable price. I had the daily special which was an open faced fresh albacore tuna melt. The tuna was fresh and the bread seemed to be homemade and delicious. The spring salad that accompanied it was also memorable--fresh and dressed lightly with a very tasty house dressing. Great place for several reasons. NW food choices are imaginatively prepared without costing a ton of money. Also, a wide variety of choices for many palates. We had eaten there for lunch and decided to try the dinner. We made reservations for dinner. My husband and I took a friend with us. He had spaghetti which he said was quite good. The recipe is Paul,s Dads recipe...Paul is the owner and chef. My husband tried the lobster mac and cheese which was luscious. I had the duck breast cassoulet with white beans that was quite excellent. These guys can really cook whether scrambled eggs and their own home made sausage to Italian deli or hamburgers the food is consistently outstanding. Besides Paul is very knowledgeable about food and he uses local sources for his desserts and meats. They just changed to a family dining style with long tables plus the outdoor seating. It has a charming decor and a lovely atmosphere. If you live outside of Jacksonville it is well worth a trip there to eat. read more

This restaurant was amazing. The best meal I've had all year. I ordered the pit smoked pork which was served on a bed of delicious yellow grits with mustard greens on the side. Definitely get the bistro salad with it. The caramel pecan cheesecake is unbelievable and is very possibly the best cheesecake I've ever had. Make sure to share it with someone else. If you talk to locals this is the go to place for lunch. We went for Dinner one night. It is very small and communal inside but there is a deck and tables outside when weather permits. The Chef owner waited tables the night we were there. ( one of my pet peeves is... I'd rather the chef be in the Kitchen) . This guy moved up to Jacksonville from the a big city for a slower pace restaurant. He is a talented chef on some selected items. Out of our 4 selection the Risotto was the standout. Wild Mushroom risotto with a rich beef stock, perfectly cooked and delicious. Its a quaint casual place ....good food and good wine and a entertaining Chef owner you waits on you. This spot was charming. Me and my sweetheart went out looking for a place to eat and didn't want a lot of hoopla or shenanigans. We just wanted a laid-back place that was casual and comfortable and friendly and had good food. We parked and just walked around and stumbled upon this place and walked in and waited for someone to come seat us outside. Once there we were given a menu and the owner came and took our order and delivered it to us after a short wait. I'm actually not sure about how long it took to wait because the point was to go out and relax so it could've been quick or fast I don't know but I was in great company and it was great to sit outside under the tree and enjoy the late summer afternoon and evening. We got a pizza and shared it and it was delicious. Definitely worth the drive just for the pizza. One thing that I did like was the friendliness of the owner. She was approachable and friendlyIt felt like a real neighborhood café, which it surely is. My husband and I absolutely cannot figure out why other people seem to like this restaurant. We came based on the recommendation of a good friend. Both of us ordered the bleu cheese burger. We were shocked because it came dry (severely overcooked with no meat juices at all) even though we ordered medium rare. It also had very few toppings. I mean almost none. Service was poor as well. Well, I celebrated my 65th birthday, at home of course, and choose to try C St. Bistro. What a disappointment! The Shrimp Scampi was cold even though we live only 8 minutes away but that was forgivable. What was not forgivable was the very small shrimp, too much low quality sauce and so salty that it was difficult to eat let alone the health ramifications! I commented to my husband about it and he said his burger was also salty! Charging premium prices for a so so product will not keep customers coming back!
